How to make it better you say?

I would like to see more backstory of the Gems. I think they are saving this for later. I would also like to see the combat scenes last about 17 more seconds. Yeah I understand that takes about 400-900 more pages of drawing. I would like to see more Lap and Ped. I would also like to see more Pearl and Amethyst. Maybe two episodes where they are alone and we can see how they interact with each other. I just think they play well off each other. I do enjoy the Garnet and Steven episodes.

The Malachite vs Alexandrite was just okay. If you want me to dissect that bit you posted though, sure, there's the hitstop and the huge wave; however the problem here is several:
The way Malachite just comes to a dead stop when she gets hit in unnatural, which also makes the impact waves strange, as there's no logic as to why they would generate. It's not because Mally was launched back into the water so hard as to cause a tsunami, as she just kinda stops mid-air with only her feet being in the water.

Also the scene of the actual impact goes by too quickly before the camera zooms out. What they should have done is keep the impact scene, but then animate it again from either a different angle or from the zoomed out shot.
After the hit connects in the second shot, THEN they should've put in the hitstop.

As for the hit itself, they should've animated Alex whipping her fists downward, slamming Mally's head straight down into the ocean floor, which would subsequently cause the waves.

Also, it's bad enough that Steven visits Greg; having Greg 24/7 would be a toxic influence on Steven. What Steven needs is a dad, not buddy. Someone like Hank Hill would do wonders for Steven.

Another thing, the subsequent hammer swing after the punch lacks a hitstop, which makes it look as if Mally is being carried/thrown into the air by the hammer. As if it were picking her up and tossing her, as opposed to the intent, which was that the hammer hit her so hard she was thrust into the sky.
Definitely needed more emphasis on the wind up for both hits. The punch and the hammer.
The punch could've used more zoom & pullback, and the swing needed more weight on the hammer.
As it looks now, the hammer might as well have had the density of a stack of paper.

The show would be a hundred times more "progressive" if there was a scene where Steven is trying to hold back his tears and Greg, SPECIFICALLY GREG, tells him that there's nothing wrong with shedding tears.
Rather than having Steven cry at everything, which just makes crying a joke rather than carrying emotional impact.

Drop the "Steven's perspective" crap, any exposition on the world, lore, even secondary characters is stunted by the fact Steven just absolutely HAS to be there and HAS to be involved, and the only way of knowing about something unrelated to Steven is to have someone be telling it to him.

The fact that Greg lets his son live with three aliens without his supervision most of the time is proof that he's not needy, at least not with his son. The broken leg episode is out of character because it's basically saying "Greg could never live with Steven because he'd be nagging him during missions", but the fact that Greg lets Steven basically do whatever he wants most of the time contradicts that idea.

And while Greg isn't a great dad, the gems are even worse parental figures. Keep in mind that they had no involvement in Steven's life until he was a teenager, they literally only took an interest in Steven when he was old enough to maybe be useful to them. So to say that Greg is toxic to Steven is dumb, he's the reason Steven is emotionally keen and can make friends out of enemies.

Of the Crystal Gems, the only gem whose a good role model is Garnet, who can still be aloof and cryptic. Pearl is neurotic, catty, and unstable. She pretty much only likes Steven because he's Rose's son. Amethyst is moody, callous, slovenly, disrespectful and self-centered. She will literally look for any excuse for a sulk.

So while Greg is a fuck up, he's still worlds better at dealing with an emotionally vulnerable child than any of the gems.
