I was actually hoping that the straight white male wasn't the chosen one, but one of the chosen ones

It's basically a cliche at this point
I don't think making him gay would make him any more interesting, but at the very least there wouldn't be the dumb typical awkward romance between the headstrong female partner and the shy but brave main character
I honestly love that dynamic, but in this scenario, it's tired and so am I

In the book, Jim is only chosen as a Trollhunter because he has ancient Trollhunter/Paladin Blood, and it's only because he's like the only one around. His friend, Tub, isn't even suppose to be there but he's smart and clever enough to make it. Claire, the girl, actually also has Trollhunter blood and is much better at it then Jim because she'a been fencing since she was a little girl; nobody even realizes she's a Trollhunter until the final battle in the book.
