I never understood why cartoons and even media in general seems to treat wearing a towel as equivalent to being fully clothed. Girls are fine going into the front yard in a towel, talking to their male friends, even chasing after people on some occasions.

Obviously that's the appeal, but I'm not sure how so many old cartoons got away with the characters being so casual about it and not at all embarrassed. It feels like a girl who doesn't put panties on under a dress is somehow treated as way more embarrassing than wearing nothing but a towel
