He was a good character and the actor played him well. His death was completely pointless, just to give credit to the show as "OH SHIT THEY'RE NOT AFRAID TO KILL A CHARACTER", just like Ben Urich (which is a much bigger blow to the series, not having Urich is pretty antithetical to any major DD story). He's also a pivotal character in Miller's Daredevil story, so killing him means they're going rogue with the story and characterization which is usually bad when it comes to comic adaptations (just like Urich).

Pretty sure Finn got Franked in DD S2, though he still had his face. Which was a disappointment to me because Kitchen Irish was a fun story. If they wanted to use it they'd have to come up with another Irish gangster character to fill the role of Finn.
