That's not how I remember Uncle Grandpa. I remember it as a stupid visual-gag show with zero wit (which is perfectly fine on its own, but it's not my thing)

I binged on Season 1 a short while ago and I gotta say the majority of the gags are on the same level as that one. There's some mindless and dumb LOLSORANDUM & WACKY! visual gags pretty prevalent throughout the show but it does grow on you, as do the characters. I thought I was going to hate Pizza Steve consistently through the show but he turned out to be pretty good for anxiety and stress related gags.

I didn't particularly hate UG, it had its moments and had a pretty decent cast of characters.

Clarence can't make up it's mind what show it wants to be
It has episodes that are on par with Rock's Modern Life in terms of zany then it has one's on an Ed, Edd and Eddie flare, then it is pretty much a Recess clone, and some episodes just can't make up their mind on which 3 and shift in narrative constantly.
Good or ill UG is at lest consistent

I'm a fan of both shows, but I prefer Clarence. The variation of stories that Clarence tells is what makes the show so cool, though. Like you said, it's never just one type of show. And, regardless of consistency, the show's still really funny and can pull off emotional moments pretty well.

In the end, the characters are the main attraction. As long as they're entertaining, consistency won't be a problem for me. BTW, Season 2's actually done a better job at telling consistent stories if that still bothers you.

We're still getting a proper ending for the ongoing Aunt Grandma plot, right? The show's one overarching story line deserves closure. And not having Lena Headey available shouldn't be a problem; they could always just get a quick replacement to do a sexy, British accent. Grey Griffin, maybe?
