You'll notice, the Batman/Catwoman ship doesn't feature in works that depict Catwoman in that way, but it DOES feature in every depiction of Catwoman that involves her having a heart of gold beneath the sass. The Batman and Catwoman relationship hinges on the correct interpretation of her character, one that's been absent in DC comics for decades at least.

The only good Catwoman is one that's eventually going to clean her shit up, or already has cleaned her shit up. This constant re-invention of the character to make her more youthful and more like a criminal is the reason she hasn't found any success as a protagonist.

That's the same reason they keep white-washing the actions of Harley Quinn and it gives her more success.

Catwoman is at her best when she ISN'T a fun-loving unrepentant criminal, which runs contrary to what a lot of fans and authors today prefer to think.

If you'd read any Catwoman in the last decade, hell, even since Year One, you'd know she's very concerned with the well-being of her home neighborhood, the East End, and orphaned street children.

In Brubaker's run she spent all of her money on a huge community center with a clinic run by Leslie Thompkins. Being in Gotham it was of course blown up the same day it opened but it was a noble gesture. And in Valentine's run the entire impetus of the story was for her to manipulate Gotham's mobs to make them give back to the community.

She only steals for the thrill, not the money. Other than that she's absolutely an anti-hero at worst. She'll let bad guys die, but she doesn't kill them unless it's self-defense.
