It wasn't the only time. Alopex is wasted potential incarnate in IDW, but the idea of having her on a team with Angel and Harold had merit. Still does, though I doubt we'll see it much now.

Either way, I still think the Nick cartoon is okay. It's no IDW and it has some very bad shit in it, but the good stuff is still good. When we get to the more spiritual shit in season 5 I think it'll be cool. Alopex might be interesting too with the potential to factor in some stuff with Tiger Claw. And we get Usagi Yojimbo and potentially Jei if the toyline picture is anything to go by, though they'd probably have to majorly tone down Jei.

Assuming season 4 ends in december/january 2017, that season 5 start a month after season 4 ends and an average gap of two to three weeks between episodes for season 5, that would mean the series will conclude between October 2017 and March 2018.

As for the next reboot? Hard to say but those shorts might be kinda-sorta pilots for a reboot, which means they could already be preparing for a new show. And reboots are certainly hitting more often than they used to (especially when it comes to franchise cashcows under a single company), so comparing my estimated end dates with recent reboot debuts, I'd say anywhere between:

November 2017 and March 2020.
