When you get the kind of ad revenue you get from this many views you're probably making more money than you generally would from a comic.
It's reaching a much wider audience too, and the point of a music video has always been to just be an advertisement for the album the song appears on (rather than a profit source in and of itself)

It does, but it's kind of unfair to go and try to point out what album is the best, each album has "parallel" each other in terms of quality just fine, like they're their own thing.

The only album that was kind of a let down is the debut, I'm fairly certain of it after decades of discussion, if it wasn't for them hitting the jackpot with the whole virtual band premise in 2001, and both clint eastwood and 19-2000, we wouldn't be talking gorillaz today.

Then Demon Days came out and immediately became a blockbuster because the band took a few step backs from the whole experimental thing, the whole album was GOAT and I still listen to it at least once a month after all these years, fucking comfy.

Then PB happened. Up until now, I still think PB is Gorillaz's magnus opus, we'll see how phase 4 goes. If it wasn't for money, it could've been much more than it was, they tried to bite more than they could chew but the story was good, the viral marketing was good, the music is good, the premise and all.

Albarn doesn't really miss when it comes to music, I don't think phase 4 will disappoint regarding songs.

The real problem is that a lot of people on /co/ are plebs that don't understand even entry level experimental music. The s/t is the most "out there" and has the most duds of any of their proper records, but I love plenty of the non-single tracks like "New Genius (Brother)", "Man Research (Clapper)", and "Slow Country"
All of their albums are good, but Demon Days is the most well put-together, layered, and thematically consistent. This is so obvious in my mind I find it boggling that other people have a different opinion, but I guess that's subjectivity for you.

3) Noodle returned to Japan and discovered she was originally a child super soldier, the only surviving one after the project was "decommissioned" only spared because her scientist handler shipped her off to England and protective obscurity. Fully self-actualised, she sought to reunite the band to create a new album
4) Russel got the ghosts inside him exorcised, went crazier, and discovered Death itself was shadowing him. A few screws got loose and he took to creating macabre animal cyborgs for companionship

After Demon Days, Noodle was presumed dead after El Mañana. Murdoc, in need of cash, decided to make a third album by kidnapping 2D, building a Cyborg Noodle, and abducting/inviting a whole host of musical collaborators to his new home, a floating island-sized mound of colourful garbage called Plastic Beach

Unable to find Russel, Murdoc settled for a used drum machine to compensate. When his former bandmate got wind of this, he swam to Plastic Beach in a rage, exposing himself to a ridiculous amount of hazardous chemicals, turning him into a giant

Noodle (after a painful misadventure in Hell) made her own journey to Plastic Beach to reunite with her bandmates, but arrived just in time (with a now gargantuan Russel) to help Murdoc and 2D escape a legion of pirates that raided and subsequently destroyed the bassist's seaborne HQ
