I know this sounds like it would make them more edgy and stupid but Ennis is a fucking contrarian so he actually makes them more serious and tempered.
Personally I find this funny, especially in context of the run (and Dillon art makes everything funnier to me), but to each their own

This is what I mean. So this is anomalous to the rest of his work? It just strikes me as odd that I heard from multiple sources how dark, gritty, realistic, violent etc. this guy was, and the first thing I read is this.

Are you saying this isn't indicative of most of his stuff? Can you link the works you recommended?

Also, I thought the art (Dillon?) was just limp as fuck...like political cartoonist-tier. Then again, I rememver loving Bill Sienkiewicz and defending him when everyone said he sucked. As you said, to each their own.

Zeck's still my favorite Punisher artist.

buddy, ennis is known for his edginess (dark humor), dialogue, friendships, and overall character work. sometimes his ratios are off and you get this.
Punisher war zone and punisher marvel knights are Ennis weakest punisher written books.

Garth Ennis is a fucking hack, that's what it comes down too. That's all you need to know.

Harrow County, Clean Room and Providence are all good horror comics going on at the moment.

I don't really get how you bitching about your age is any different to any other snowflake, but there you go. Ennis isn't a bad writer but he has way more of a sense of humour and levity than Frank Millar.

You found Ennis' humor runs of Punisher. You want his serious ones? Punish MAX. There ya go. Or try Kelly's deadpool. Pages are filled with jokes, but the overarching plot and major points are very much tragedy. Really harsh tragedy.
