So-
anyone here working on a comic?
Anyone writing a comic?
anyone a writer that needs an artist?
artist that needs a writer?

Lets talk about creating the art that our board discusses.

Personally, I've always wanted to make a comic, maybe for Image, but my art is shit, so i couldn't do much besides write and character design. I've been thinking about getting some books on animation and film so that I can draw layouts and stuff though.
>>
Yes, i work in mexican webcomic called Nahualo, it´s about Nahuales, mages and necromancers fighting and living in México.
>>
I'm working on a comic. It's a historical fiction with a bit of fantasy. I do the art and writing.
>>
>>86792197
Yes I have several ideas and I'm not telling you about them.
>>
>>86792197
these threads depress me because it reminds me of how many other people are making comics and even though I have confidence in my ideas it's just nicer to exist in a bubble where I am the only person with a good and original idea

also
>sharing your possibly extremely profitable ideas with random people on the internet
kek
>>
>>86792197
>anyone a writer that needs an artist?
story of my life
>>
I'm writing a comic

It's about your dad being a cuckold and your mother being a dirty dirty slut

your mum is getting railed by some beefcake with a tan and a shaved penis while your dad watches Netflix in the living room and pretends it isn't happening. That fucking beta nerd is too scared to stand up to his woman and put her in place
>>
>>86793505
Start saving up and pay an artist up front. Or strike a deal to "jointly" own the property. Those are really your only options unless you plan on perfecting your drawing abilities (which honestly may not be all that difficult). I purposely chose a 2x4 layout because it allows to visualize the pages and gain a better understanding of what works or doesn't.
>>
>>86792197
yeah, i am writing a comic, post apocaliptic one...and with dragons. In my case, i am kinda good drawing, but really needs to improve my backgrounds
>>
>>86792197

I have a graphic novel I'd like to write, but I'm not in any real hurry to get it off the ground or even putting it in a proper format, I'm more interested in working on my novel which is totally different.

If people are interested in the comic, I'll put the rough summary for what I have so far up: http://pastebin.com/H1JyDiiX

(I can't draw worth a damn, so I did all the concept portraits in heromachine)
>>
>>86793740
Yeah, I'm pretty much going to just have to pay someone, but I'm not in a position to pull that trigger.
If I'm going to drop money, it needs to be worth it.
>>
>>86793852
Same boat. Right now I've managed to full script more than half my series but I find that I keep going back and making changes when I discover weaknesses in the script.

Right now I'm refocusing my efforts on finishing my comic bible which is more or less going to contain a rough outline for all the major stories I plan on telling with expected script numbers. it's a definite pain but actually plotting out everything in a coherent manner ready to be put into the proper format is a good feeling.

>Writing TIps
Something another anon said, actually speak all your dialog aloud to see if it works.
Work within the medium. Don't try and jam a novel's worth of text on the page. Whenever possible, show don't tell. It takes a critical eye to determine if a scene is better served by a powerful two sentence response or a singular provoking image.
>>
>>86792197
I'm working on a steven universe porn comic about connie fucking her mom
>>
>>86793977
You sound like someone who needs to manage their time better.
You're putting in a lot of work, but you're not really getting any returns out of it for a long time, especially if you don't have an artist lined up already.
You obviously want to have this stuff planned, but it's an alluring trap to spend all of your time in pre-work and never getting to the actual thing.

Have you gotten any short comics published? Like 2-3 page worth? I think that would be "smarter" than running off with multiple series' bibles and stuff.
>>
>>86794142
That's basically what I'm doing. I'm not even touching my series ideas until I've got some books out and I have some connections to pay for this shit.
Right now, I'm working on three 3 page scripts all set in the same setting that all build on each other. Just something light and non committed that I don't have to marry myself to for years trying to get its own book. Just throw it in a zine or whatever.
>>
>>86793977
>Something another anon said, actually speak all your dialog aloud to see if it works.
I edit peoples short stories for fun and practice, and this is the number 1 thing I tell all of them. It just works so well.
>>
Currently writing a comic titled Tangled Web Of Venom, hit a snag writing the last issue of the Mania arc
>>
>>86795102
Good luck trying to sell a book full of licensed characters.
>>
>>86795278
>trying to sell
Hahahahaha, you think that it will sell? Ahahahahaha, holy fuck son, this is a hobby, not a profession. Best case scenario, someone reads it and offers me a job writing a bunch of owned characters, worst case I'm told to take the issues down off pastebin, either way I'm having fun with my hobby.
>>
>>86795330
No, that's precisely it, it wouldn't sell. Even if you try Marvel would be all over your ass.
And just because it's a hobby doesn't mean you shouldn't try to make something sellable. Else you're just writing fanfiction, and any dweeb can do that.
>>
>>86795396
It pretty much is fan fiction though, at least that's how I see it. I'm also working on nolvizing the history of my main in World of Warcraft, an erotic furshit short story, and an idea that I had for the world of Fallout dealing with Hawaii, but none of those are really /co/ related.

I finished the outline for my comic a year ago, it's a body horror story about a guy who gets turned into an insect-cyborg creature in order to resurrect a space Satanic diety. Pic related, a kind anon drew the main character a while back in a thread like this (if you're here thanks again, I printend it out and hung it on my fridge). I personally can't draw so I thought it'd be easier to just convert it to novel format.

Currently participating in Inktober with a Spiderman/Marvel theme. I recommend anyone else do it as well.

Aside from that I am working on my hard surface modelling and doing some 2D animation. Just last week I did an AR animation for an artbook (think printed picture that you can then animate with your phone).

I'm trying to work on a "spiritual continuation" of Moore's Hypernaut from 1963, but I'm still not entirely sure what to do with it (and every time it ends up as a poor man's Dr. Manhattan when I want it to be this unique thing). It's part of the reason why I never write fan fiction and why I might be having a huge writer's block because of it
>>
>>86799664
That's because you aren't as good as Moore. Work on something smaller and less complex and work your way to the weird trippy stuff.
>>
I've got some ideas for a comic that I really think could be big. It started as a smaller gag concept but I kept expanding on it until it became a much larger universe. So much so, it's becoming a little hard to keep track of. I've recorded some of my ideas, and I've still got more and I'm constantly thinking of new ones.

Putting this much stock into a project, I'm probably going to spend another year practicing my art at the very minimum before even considering starting it.

> Anyone writing a comic?
Yeah, but my story is pathetic.

Some time ago I started to writ down the idea of cartoon series/comic. But I am definitely not an artist, so I only managed to write two 20 min screenplays like movie screenplay in Final Draft and presentation with concept in past three weeeks.

To find the artist would be great, but I am subhuman from Russia and have no experience in creating an actual comics. You know, story boards, planing of panels etc.

I have plenty of ideas for comics. The only problem is I'm terrible at drawing out the page layouts ...

...and also my ideas are mostly sexual. So. I'll probably never actually make a successful sfw comic.
>>
>>86806364

I'm looking for ideas dor porn comics too.

Like I want to think of an idea that can become popular if it has a decent execution and I'm capable of that if I try.

So I was thinking something Gravity Falls, Steven Universe or something.

So, I was working on tying together everything in the /co/verse. It was originally something I was just writing for my own enjoyment, but as it grew I wanted to share it. My hard drive got wiped. An entire universe died today, not with bang, but with a whisper. I only have one script left, one that I wrote on paper during class (I've been working on this universe for at least 5 years).

Back up your files.

I'm guessing you don't take scripts only submissions?
>>
I was working on this comic last year for Top Cows open submission thing they were doing to find writers and artists, but I procrastinated and missed the deadline, in addition to finding out about the whole thing 3 days before it was over. That's no excuse though, because I know I could have finished it.

I've been thinking of finishing it now just to reconcile the regrets I have over wasting that opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do. I really love the vision I had for it, and I've been coming back to it a lot, making it more fully formed. It make just make me more regretful though, because I haven't found any opportunities like that since and I feel like I missed an important shot in my life

I'm not particularly invested in any of their characters or their world myself, but honestly that was one of the best things about the opportunity. I found the most obscure characters they owned and reshaped them creatively. It's great working with characters that nobody has any expectations for
>>
>>86810840
currently writing characters for a super hero comic. they're still in the conception stage so tell me what you guys think. I've only gotten super hero names so far.

Pirouette:
A dancer who's father is a famous prosecuter. She's a naturally happy girl who sees the good in all people. She was gifted he powers through "The invitation" after her father was shot in a mob hit, leaving him comatose. She was given the power of telepathy and telekinesis. With her powers she becomes a hero who acts as a public defender.

Technomancer:
A smart but meek young man living in the rough part of town. He's given his power through "the invitation" after a misunderstanding with the police leads to him being shot and lying on his death bed. His powers are electricity manipulation and the ability to manipulate technology. While he's conflicted about the implications of a super human police force he still does his part to clean up the streets

Laura:
Laura is the definition of bummer. She was orphaned by her drug addicted mother as a child. At the age of 12 she was adopted by a wealthy man, but to her horror he was insane. He drugged her and began sexually abusing her while forcing her to call him her husband. She managed to escape once and was found by two officers. The man found her and managed to not only talk the officers into leaving her with him but also bribed them to not look into his dealings. Shocked and broken she gave up and spent the next 6 years if her life as the man's "wife". She receives her powers from "the invitation" after performing an abortion on herself. She gained the power of construct creation, though she mostly creates needles. Her time with the man has left her cold, serious, and cynical to the point where she doesn't even make a super hero name and costume. she just wears casual clothes and goes by her real name. under the invitations obligations she also acts as public defender, however, she grows a habit of killing the criminals.
>>
Technomancer is the lamest name for a technopath.
Laura is laughably edgy.

I'm trying to learn how to draw because my dream is to create an entire expanded universe of comics. Every comic will eventually connect at some point to form a JLA-esque group and from there on there will be casual crossovers for whatever the story in each comic needs.

I've pretty much thought up 2 concepts right now:

first is about a boy and a girl discovering the dark secret about themselves/the town the two children live in and running away from it. From then on its a road trip until they reach the superhero team.

Second is a magical girl comic about 3 girls recruited to fight an evil sorceress and her army of witches. Each magic-user in this book focuses on a specific type of magic. Like one girl would use magic specifically based on Egyptian mythology, another Norse mythology, then voodoo, etc.

Of course, I'm still working on at least 2 more so the team will be complete, but I haven't figured out how to flesh them out yet.
>>
>>86813766
I have the same kind of vision for creating mythological canon of superhero like figures. I'm trying to avoid making it all too analogous to anything from Marvel or DC and having it all feel like a subversive commentary on the genre
>>
>>86792347
Sounds cool, man! What's the plan for releasing it?
