Allot of talk has gone on about things from Whor to the Cho/Rucka slap fight. So I thought we'd look at the numbers.

Superman Rebirth 1* $2.99 DC 118,434
Superman 1* $2.99 DC 105,380
Superman 2* $2.99 DC 101,953
Superman 3* $2.99 DC 97,606
Superman 4* $2.99 DC 88,154
Superman 5* $2.99 DC 81,339

Wonder Woman Rebirth 1* $2.99 DC 94,458
Wonder Woman 1* $2.99 DC 107,737
Wonder Woman 2* $2.99 DC 103,759
Wonder Woman 3* $2.99 DC 94,465
Wonder Woman 4* $2.99 DC 85,329
Wonder Woman 5* $2.99 DC 77,860

As you can see Wondy has a bit of an edge during the initial few issues. But her issues take a dip below Superman around the Cho/Rucka bitch slap fight. It will be quite interesting to see what numbers the we see in a couple of months when issues hit double digits. Where does the floor exist?
>>
>>86783672
But there's no way to really say anything about the drop, it could just as easily be because of the overall slow pace of the story of WW compared to Superman.
>>
>>86783672
Wonder Woman sales has nothing to do with Cho/Rucka and more to do with Rucka storytelling
>>
>>86783672
On Whor, much ado has been made about gender swaps/black face. Comparing the two Thor's is rough since Aaron wrote the Thor title significantly before and after so continuity messes with the numbers. Fortunately we have other numbers to luck.

Old Man Logan 10 $3.99 Marvel 52,175
All New Wolverine 11 $3.99 Marvel 40,312

Captain America Steve Rogers 4 $4.99 Marvel 49,559
Captain America Sam Wilson 5 $3.99 Marvel 29,081

These numbers are typical of their respective sales position. As we can see, the change up rarely raises sales and can cost sales where a team is split or readers have an option between Classic and New Coke.
>>
>>86783672
Cho was only doing Variant covers. I highly doubt anyone was buying the book for the variants, and of those that were, they're likely a small enough number as to be insignificant.
>>
I don't think you understand how comic book sales work. Superman was always going to level out higher than WW so it doesn't really mean much. You should be grouping her with Aquaman, GL, GA, etc and she is pacing well compared to those. None of the Rebirth books have likely settled in yet besides Batman.
>>
>>86783730
And as a gift to X-men fans

Extraordinary X-Men 13 $3.99 Marvel 45,037
Uncanny Inhumans 12 $3.99 Marvel
31,357

X continues to beat the house of Boltagon. Some of this may be due to X-men's longer deeper pedigree, but even with the edge I gave them, an earlier issue, Inhumans haven't shown they can take the crown.
>>
>>86783773
Also I'll add that even if you want to map the drops to the controversy I'm not sure it would show up yet because of where the final order dates are drawn. You'd have to mark that cutoff point to the last issue that could have been ordered when the controversy happened, not the street date. Maybe more like #7 or so but I'm too lazy to check the dates.
>>
>>86783718
It has nothing to do with Rucka storytelling and more to do with Wonder Woman will never sell very high for more than a few issues
>>
>>86783707
Prior, Wonder Woman was outselling Superman. The fight occurs, Wonder Woman goes below Superman. Its not definite, few things are, but its not beyond the realm the one or two thousand people dropped the title because of that.
>>
>>86783672
This is a false equivalency. Wondy clearly has lower sales than Superman from the get go, aside from the difference between Rebirth and #1. Equating that to Cho and Rucka is stupid.
>>
>>86783772
DK Master Race sold 440,234 issues in part because of variants. Retailers covet these because while the collectors have become less of a factor, there is still a number of buyers who look at variants.
>>
>>86783919
You would not see it in these figures. These are orders to stores not sales to fans. They are completed too far in advance.
>>
>>86783958
>DK Master Race sold 440,234 issues in part because of variants
Those were incentive variants, hence the massively inflated number. As far as I'm aware, the Cho covers weren't incentive variants.
>>
>>86783958
DK3 had incentive ratio covers. The Cho WW covers were free to order. The free variants do provide a bump but that is a bad comparison.
>>
On the bright side, insert comment about Marvel's sales here.

Fact. Cho has a fan base of people who purchase his artwork. Fact, Cho's cover for issue #3 was censored, causing him to publicly announce his leaving the title. Fact, it is Issue three where Wonder Woman dips below Superman in sales.

The difference is small, one to three thousand people. It really isn't a stretch that the controversy damaged sales.
>>
>>86784129
Again, you seem to be ignoring the FACT that final orders would have been in for all the issues listed before the controversy happened. They are normally due 3 weeks before the street date. If a drop happens because of this it won't be until maybe the second September issue or the October issues.
>>
>>86784129

Though issue 3 was already ordered before the controversy hit and WW still dipped below Superman
>>
>>86784079
Only if we can have a civil war too.
>>
>>86784079
I think we can.

The issue is the numbers and the decisions by creative. Obviously changing a characters race/gender is by itself insufficient to raise sales.

The problem that appears evident from these statistics is that editorial is making decisions, business ones, based on personal bias and emotions. The argument, whether it is Greg Rucka at the Wonder Woman office or Marvel and Disney, is that making these decisions are for the best.

Obviously, re controversy in the short term has hurt Wonder Woman while Superman has quietly chugged along. Equally plain is Marvel is hurting itself by handicapping the X-men to spite Fox. Diversity is apparently not moving comic audiences. I believe that that is a question of brand. It took years to build Steve Rodgers, Logan, and the X-men into trusted quantities. Fans care as much for quality as they do diversity.
>>
>>86784242

Well played, anon
>>
>>86784254
>Obviously, re controversy in the short term has hurt Wonder Woman

Why continue to say this when it's proven to be wrong? The sales numbers on the affected issues have not been released yet
>>
>>86784161
>>86784168
I think you are making the same mistake people like Rucka and Marvel have made, making an emotional rather than a empirical argument.
>>
>>86784285
But they have, those numbers above show the slide. Instead of being on an equal playing field, Wonder Woman has been losing readers faster than her peer.
>>
>>86784293
You mean you're making an emotional argument.
>>
>>86784312
Those numbers above were orders placed before the controversy.

You're easily triggered by the truth.
>>
>>86784391
There's no politics here. Some guy who doesn't understand when comic orders are placed attempted to draw a conclusion that hasn't happened yet and attempting to damage control now that it's been proven that he jumped the gun.

The sales numbers WILL drop however in the next reported month and I supposed then it will be debated if the number is big enough to blame the Cho thing or if it's a normal drop.
>>
>>86783672
>dropping that fast

Lel, they'll reach nu-52 numbers in less than a year
>>
>>86784129
Fact the variant of Cho wasn't censored, only was cropped. Cho blow of proportion everything.
>>
>>86784430
Oh I was to busy triggering your momma last night.
>>
>>86784494
Cropping against the artist's wishes is censorship.

Wondering what politics are there between two titles at the same company.
