This is really not surprising. As a former resident of NY, the con over the years became more difficult to get into to the point where you could no longer simply buy tickets at your lcs to get inside.

In my final years in NY I just stopped going because I'm not a frequenter of FB, which is was apparently the only way to know when they were going on sale. You had to make online purchase only and unless I am mistaken you don't get to do on site sales any longer.

Each year the reasons became different for those tix selling like hot cakes. Game of Thrones. The Walking Dead.

Speaking of Fanfiction, one year had Fifty Shades of Grey as a feature panel. Shit was bananas. And all this for only one con a year in New York Fucking City.

So tell me why a place down south that doesn't have half the transportation system NY does have THREE goddamned conventions taking place a year compared to New York? Does AnimeFest even occur any longer?

It used to be better man, let me tell you. I mean, we had two cons. It kinda took place within the same amount of time but we had it. It was New York Comic Con, and then AnimeFest. Both of them in the same year back when I was younger.

The culmination of that all came one year when they decided to hold both events at the same time literally. At the time we thought it was the shit because it was literal "East meets West" and had one of the largest turnouts that we'd seen due to it being the only time people were gonna be able to attend.

And then I think a year or two after was when the online sales started happening and people started comparing NYCC to SDCC with the way it was starting to get. AnimeFest disappeared completely leaving us with only the one and NY started caring more about it's pop culture and was more flash in the pan comparable to shit like E3 and SD.

I dunno the state of it now but I know I hated what it was becoming.

Just watched the trailer, overall visual quality seems to have improved from before, models are more detailed, effects are more prominent, even the animations have improved (looking at you, Harambe). It actually reminds me a LOT of a cel-shaded video game, though that's not necessarily a bad thing. We'll see if the visual quality carries over from the trailer to the actual series.

Chroeography, however, leaves a lot to be desired. The fight was lackluster and had none of the series' traditional over-the-top style. I'm not expecting Monty to come back to life but even the choreography in Vol. 3 was better. Ruby barely used her scythe-gun's recoil at all.

Voice acting was as terrible as ever. I'm surprised how the VAs still haven't improved at all through 4 fucking volumes.

New costumes look good, especially Weiss's. Ruby looks a tad too much like a gothic bondage victim for my taste.

Anon NYCC became trash over the years. This is coming from a guy who travels to cons outside of the NY area and realized that fact. I went to NYCC for four years before I finally stopped this year, the con isn't really worth it anymore. Back in 2012 at least they had some events that seemed like all good fun but now most of the panels suck, it's way more crowded than the previous years, you barely see any interesting cosplays (unless it's thursday) and its all too damn expensive.

I'm probably going to drop RWBY now that Monty is gone. No one at RT knows how to edit or animate to save their lives.

I personally watch it and root for it because it's nice to have an original online animated series that's focused on action, characters, and a story. I've thought for a while that the future of western action animation would be online, ever since a shitton of action shows like MotorCity, From Uprising, and Green Lantern the Animated Series and Earth's Mightiest Heroes got cancelled really close to each other. RWBY is solid evidence that that may be the case.

Yes and no. I do generally like some aspects (soundtrack and fight scenes prior to the previous season) as well as some curiosity as to where the plot goes as it is very easy to follow and can just be something to not "think" about.

The fact that it's short and free/very easy to access played a part in it as well. Like I said, I know it's not that good, but I don't have much desire to seek anything else.

Javitz center is too expensive and bogged down in competing Union and Mob interest. Its hard to do big events in NYC for fandom and niche groups.

NYAF is dead, run by the same guys who did comic con and they tried to run it like Comic Con instead of any Anime Con I've been to. Anime Cons to a point have a lot more in common with old school scifi cons. Its more about fan activity and some industry panels and less about the industry and announcements.

Though on the anime con front, New York is getting Liberty City Anime Convention very soon, and because of that the Comic Con guys want to stretch their nerd cred dicks out and are going to bring back NYAF seemingly out of spite.
