Let's be honest, this comic is basically X-Men but somehow even MORE blunt and unsubtle about the political agenda it's obviously pushing.

Also, it makes the same mistake I see often in american media of assuming that the cultural and social climate of the US is the same as literally everywhere else in the world.

I mean the book literally opens with "In a world that fears and hates them - what if only black people had superpowers?"

News Flash to the writer, the whole world does not specifically hate black people. That is a sentiment that primarily only applies in america and to a lesser extent other western countries. Pretty sure that black people aren't a persecuted minority in Africa, or India, and that is only speaking about countries where darker pigmented people are the majority and not discussing countries where they are a minority but the cultural climate doesn't discriminate against them.

Basically, not every country is america.

If you told me this comic was a satire piece written by a /pol/ack I would believe you.

How comic can be so overtop in its lacking of subtelly while still being bland and boring ?

Not that this is an overall bad premise for a comic, but you know what would be more interesting? A lone black super in a world where only whites can be superheroes because of some weird dna makeup. So of course there's some obvious racisim where the whites don't think the one black super has what it takes, that he's an potiential hazzard that needs to be contained rather than allowed to fight freely beside them

Do cops even tried to pursue real robbers? It appear they focused on black mutant kid only.

There's a joke in there that I'm not clever enough or dumb enough to make.

Funny how this would've been a much cooler read if it was about gang life in slums, plus superpowers thrown in the mix. So you would have black, neonazi- and hispanic gangs with nasty gang leaders with superpowers, racist and trigger happy cops who got anti-superpower gear and the black hero is pretty much the only "good guy" in the story, trying to exit the one-way street of belonging to a gang while trying to survive with his fledgling superpowers.

You could've had best of the both worlds, the story wouldve been both anti-gang and anti-police violence. And you could have legit interesting shit in it too, like those mentioned gang wars and all the little drug trafficking- and assassination "politics" mixed in it. But nope, lets take the boring propaganda route instead.

The US talks about racism more than many countries, and people around the world pay more attention to things that happen in the US. That doesn't mean racism towards black people is nonexistent elsewhere. Countries with large black minority populations like France, Brazil, Columbia, the UK, etc; also have varying degrees of discrimination (some worse, some better than the US). Places like Cuba and Venezuela will claim that there isn't any discrimination towards blacks, but if you look past what government mouthpieces are saying, you see that Afro-descendants are even more underrepresented in power structures (government, law enforcement, high-status professions, etc) than they are in the US.

And in Africa, neighbouring tribes are racist towards each other, sometimes culminating in atrocities like with the Hutu and Tutsi. Meanwhile right now Saami are claiming Finland's government is being racist towards them. So thats white people being racist to other white people.

So white on black racism is not the only facet of racism. But it seems to be the only facet US knows about.

You know, as hackneyed and stiff as this comic is, I was willing to follow along until this point.

The sudden shift in narrative focus, the rather cut and dry topical beats, all of this. But this page is what broke my suspension of disbelief.
