Here's a storytime for one of the new Young Animal line comics from DC. Shade the Changing Girl

It's weird and can get confusing, so prepare.
>>
Note the color of the thing around the girl when the Blue Textbox says it pushes what is left of the comatose girl
>>
I believe the rainbow box is the jacket.
>>
A proper reaction to a skeleton.
>>
>>
And now we meet the blue textbox in person.
>>
Notice the patterns on the coat. The circles appear throughout around the possessed girl.
>>
Coat's color matches the rainbow textboxes now.
>>
Pink blob still floating around her and the coat circular pattern too.
>>
And now we have pink narration boxes.
>>
>>
Did the 30 second limit with images get taken away?
>>
>>
>>
>>
And now her vomit and hair have made her bedsheets match the coat. Weird and cool.
>>
Junji Ito reference.
>>
Not sure if that's just gibberish or supposed to say something.
>>
>>
>>
>>
fuck yeah
>>
The end. Hope you enjoyed.

What did you think of this new series in YA?
>>
But wait! There's more!

It's Space Ranger!

Interesting perspective for a story, I'm curious about what's going to happen.

Thanks for the storytime!

Who thought releasing this before putting out Shade The Changing Man trades was a good idea?
>>
>>86755050
I saw Beto was added as writer on CMX, and I hoped there would be some sweet Hernandez backup, good to see that I was right.
>>
>>86754662
Damit dc how do you expect this to sell if it does not show up on the dc comics app.
>>
>>86754791
They should have opened with this scene it took to long to explain what was going on.

Still it looks promising so far better then doom patrol.
>>
>>86754791
Ah uncensored swearing in a dc universe comic how i missed you.

So vertigo is where they send stuff unconected to the dc universe now and everything else that would have gone to vertigo goes to young animal right?

coma girl got possessed
the thing that possessed her is enoying this new joyride
>>
>>86755644
I understood it fine im just saying the narative would work better if you could understand it eariler.

Gerard Way duh

I think I like this better than Doom Patrol.

Wait so is she related to this rac shade person she was talking about eariler or is it a caste name or something.
>>
>>86755748
Yeah the wierdness here worked in doom patrol it just felt like they were massivly overdoing it.

Shade seems to be some kind of position or title. She mentions the shade project in this comic.

I really, really like it. It's bold in the choices it's making and the art and writing work together, something I always worry about with novel writers in comics.

I like everything about the way this story has been set up right now.

I really like this. A much stronger first issue for me than the original Shade and I really like how she's going to be the school bully everyone tried to kill. It's going to be a train-wreck when she starts going back to class and I can't wait.
>>
I loved this, I think it's great. I'm actually struggling to put into words all that I like about but a big draw is the complexity. In this first issue you have Earth set up as an enemy and obstacle but it's not some big supervillain, it's life not meeting expectations and a gang of callous popular kids - but that is enough of a villain for Loma not quite in control of a mean girl's body.

I think the reason they didn't start with the museum scene is because Megan is going to come back, right? You don't start off the comic with the ghost of a girl departing as a speech bubble and not do anything with that. And there's a suggestion that Loma is just a somewhat older experience-chaser in the mould of Megan. Both of them are hedonists, both of them have secret desires, both of them are apparently disregarded by their friends (but even that is complex - do the others here >>86755006 know her body is there?). Megan is obviously dominant, Loma maybe isn't so much. How is that going to work out if they tussle for the body? Loma is a dreamer and already Earth isn't living up to her dreams. How is she going to handle inheriting Megan's reputation?

The relationships here are all complex. You have Megan's gang, as a group and individually (and I like that they didn't actively kill Megan, they let her kill herself - that implies 1-on-1 she could keep them all in line and together they probably aren't all on the same page anyway), her parents, the police on Meta, the boy next door, Loma's crew, Rac Shade's legacy. And all of these relationships are secretly twofold because it's Loma-in-Megan and Megan-in-Loma.

The art is great and the colouring is excellent. How good is this entire page >>86754931, artistically, showing Loma moving into Megan's world?

Between this and stuff like the Flintstones I see an arc going back to the kind of subjects older DC and Marvel properties played around with, and I'm delighted by it.
>>
>>86754945
Hey, Junji Ito
>>
Going by the original Shade. Assuming Megan's personality is still there I'd put money on at least one swim team girl getting rekt hard.
>>
>>86757326
If that's the route then it's obviously going to be the one who is dating her old boyfriend.
>>
>>86757215
I mostly agree with this post except for 2 things
Megan aint coming back and it should have started at the museum.

I had never really considered how alike the characters were before you mentioned it but you make a good point.
>>
>>86754945

>>

>>86754764

>>
>>86755724
>Comics should be non-linear and completely bland
I never got this complaint. Comics have this advantage over other mediums where a non-linear story works great, and people still want a tv pitch from comics.
>>
>>86754945
why are blacks in comics always hipster with faggy haircuts? there's never any giga nigga types. i live in fucking oakland and there's not a single hipster black dude out here and a million gangsta motherfuckers.
>>
This is fucking weird shit.
>>
>>86757984
Pretty sure it's to parallel the original nigga in Shade. The one that the guy who Rac possessed murdered. Can't really have a giga-nigga as a love interest even if that would perfectly represent the Madness.
>>

>dog_meme.avi
>it's three wolf moon

>>
>>86754714
Does this count as an all female book? Is it correct that Shelly Bond is credited editor there?
>>
I was pretty hype for this to begin with, but I thought this was going to feature Rac Shade as the main character and I am very glad that it doesn't. He already found himself in a female body back in the 90's and that arc handled transgender issues incredibly well and long before it was the 'hip' thing to do. I'm glad this writer isn't retreading old ground, especially when you have to tread so lightly these days.
>>
>>86755724
I disagree strongly.
>>
>Champions thread has 500+ posts

>>86757984
It's less threatening to white people.
>>
>>86757984
Comic creators don't really hang out with black people much so they just transplant the styles and mannerisms of their Hipster friends onto any black characters they create.
>>
This is interesting, but I'm disappointed they didn't release Changing Man trades to coincide with the new series.

Young Animal is basically Vertigo Rebirth, where it's a mature imprint that covers minor DC characters and places them in stories at the fringe of DC cannon. Vertigo itself is now solely creator owned material and is DC's version of Image.
>>
>>86762556
When I first saw Luckey(chubby dude with tentacle arms) I thought that he looks like a Graham invention. Like the characters he draws in his doodles(e.g. in the Image+ inside-covers).

I liked it, peaked my interest a lot. I normally don't say this but i hope Megan gets revenge on her friends in some way.

>>
>>86761136
The story goes way asked for a copy of the whos who and found cave carson had the smalest entry.

For all people accuse rebirth of nostalgia pandering between cave carson, baz and cyborg theres a lot of new character development for previously bland characters.
>>
>>86755043

Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Non-linear stuff works fine sometimes. It worked fine with the lake flashbacks (unlike all the deathstroke flashbacks) and there are plenty of comics that have this same start 5 minuites into the plot format that work fine.

But this just throws you way to far into the deep end at the start.

Megan is the pink blob. The blob is still floating around the body so Megan is still there. She's either coming back or trapped without control of her body forever.

Even they don't seem to like her much.

>The art is utterly shit, probably today's worst.
It might not be some of the best shit out there but it will never be this shitty.
I just find it to be hard to follow the first time through.

There was some printing problem with the Lotay variant - I saw an article saying it'll be out next week.

I liked this issue. It was better than Doom Patrol #1 (which was interesting but messy and felt like it was straining for effect). Makes me really interested to see what Cave Carson is like. Less hyped for Mother Panic, though - does the world need yet another Batbook? I'll wait till there's some preview pages out.
>>
>>86775567
Not really a Bat book as she's not in the Batfamily. It just takes place in Gotham.

Kind of like how we got a stealth Spectre title in Gotham by Midnight. Though Bats actually appeared in that and is less likely to do so here.
>>
>>86775820
Wonder if it will explore an aspect of the city in some detail. Gotham by Midnight showed us the lore and legends of Gotham. Gotham Academy shows us the life of the big private school and rich kid life.

I've seen WIP stuff from Tommy Lee Edwards and Jean Paul Leon and Batman is definitely going to appear.
>>
>>86775100
why is doreen so ugly? she is supposed to be a qt pie
>>
>>86775897
Oh fair enough. As to whether or not you want to call it a Bat book then it's a judgment call. I still wouldn't.
What is Leon doing? Rotating with Edwards on the interior art? Or doing backups?
>>
>>86775980
I don't know. Hopefully rotating because there's no way Edwards won't need breaks and they have a similar style.

She looks like a grandma.
>>
>>86776243
Yeah the Lotay variant is much better in my opinion.

Yeah honestly she looks like fun
Would take her racing then have a bang
Make sure to wear a rubber, innit, eh?

I'd figured it would be in line with how Kathy Kane showed up in the 52 series - the social life style meeting with trying to be more than just an amateur crime fighter, more focus on the day time cover up excuses that Bruce Wayne would brush off to keep the plot going.

The pink blob is the original owner of the body, Megan.

mfw we'll never get 3 hardcovers with 25 issues each solicited so I could just buy the first two

So is all of the Shade run canon to this?

Dude, Shade started with the boyfriend and parents of the main character getting killed and the murderer electrocuted and possessed by an alien
>>
First time reading anything Shade-related so some of this was confusing at first but I liked it. Don't understand the complaints about the art. I thought it was a highlight.

A long time ago. Why not try again now? You know how comic book people are sometimes, they won't give this a try because "I didn't read the series this is spinning out of" even if they're hardly related. And besides, it's a great series. I kind of understand canceling trades for Shade or Spectre when no on bought them though, the worst thing is when they think of collecting stuff and then one or two months before it's released it gets canceled because there weren't enough preorders despite the fact that pre ordering a trade costs you more than waiting for it to be released and ordering it. You basically get nothing for pre-ordering except paying more.
