The thing with Gendy's style is you need to take a second look and see the art. Like where he kicks a guy through a panel-there's WORK behind the stylization instead of it being a lazy shortcut, which is what people are sick of.

>>86759900
On a tangent to this question, the reason why Genndy's art is great is two fold. The first being the extreme expressiveness of the faces and the second are the lines of action.

There's very rarely any sort of confusion about what the characters are feeling and where they are going.
That's good art.

Sorry for being fanboyish and posting a meme image but my points will still stand.

The show you posted for your reaction pic (The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show) is a perfect example of what to do when you want an exaggerated art style. Despite being animated with puppet animation by a Canadian animation studio, the show looks more gorgeous and goes more off model than most frame by frame cartoons made today.

This is partially probably due to the fact that many of the people working on the show either directly worked with Tartakovsky (Kevin Dart, Chris Mitchell) or have based much of their aesthetics on his style (Keiko Murayama, Phillip Light).

If my pic related doesn't prove to you the show is off model enough, I have an entire episode full of gorgeous off model poses to show you.

>>
>>86772364
They are both incompetence. Just look at this fucking page:
>>86753767
That punch has no weight at all. Cage's body leaning out of the hit sucking all the energy out of the drawing. A good stylized drawing should convey action and momentum better than a good realistic drawing but this has no power at all. And the entire book is filled with these amateur mistakes.

Tartakovsky draws for animation, he isn't a comic book artist. Get over it.
>>
>>86772614
Luke Cage has steel skin and super strength. The whole point of him posing like that is that the guy is skating full force into him and all he has to do is hold out his fist to knock the other guy out.

What you're calling incompetence is obviously a conscious decision that went over your head.
>>
>>86772614
>has no weight

That's how you know it's one of his. All his shit is weightless, animated or not.
>>
>>86772683
Why would he hit him in the side of the head if the guy just skated into his fist? And regardless, it's still an action panel with no power that takes up almost an entire page.

>>86753965
This one isn't so big but you've got Cyclops shooting one way and then Cage being thrown back another way. It would flow better visually if Cyclops was shooting right in the top panel.
>>
>>86772955
Because he's coming at him from an angle, or more likely, Cage is turning away from him while walking judging by his footing position.

And yeah, it's supposed to have no power. That's literally the point. It's supposed to show that defeating the guy was effortless. He's not taking a swing. He's just holding his fist there so the guy runs into it. If you ran into someones fist the guy wouldn't look powerful, you would look like an idiot who got knocked out by a stationary fist.
>>
>>86773031
All action scenes should have power. The guy is still skating at him. If Cage is just standing there then he shouldn't be front and center in the composition. The charging skater getting wrecked should be the focal point, and we should have a sense of his speed and the force he's colliding with. Instead he's shoved off to the side and you have Cage in the middle there.
>>
>>86773146
You're getting way too into a single page of a comic.
>>
>>86773146

bc it's also introducing Luke
>>
>>86773146
Because it's a showcase for Cage himself. Its your introduction to the character in the book. Everything else before that is just flashes of portions of his body. It's the payoff to a build up. Not to mention, it's not like you don't notice the guy getting wrecked.

Also no, all action scenes should not have power. If the whole point is to show how effortless it is for a character to show his power comparatively to something else then making a spectacle out of the action literally would go against what you're trying to convey.

Either way, to compare something that is clearly stylized and cartoonish to someone who is clearly incompetent is ridiculous anyway. The whole point of the art in this book is exaggeration. In this case, to show the exaggeration of how easy it is for a man like Cage to beat your average street level villain.

Whereas Liefeld constantly flipped between realistic body proportions and exaggerated ones, sometimes within the same issue. And he clearly obstructed portions of characters body for no other reason than it covering up his shortcomings.
