Mahnke needs a better inker/colorist combination.
I like the story and the homage, book is overall serviceable but this lacks ambition. It's just one safe shit after another and it's not offering anything new to Superman.
This should be relegated to Action and someone who can do something other than safe shit should be brought on this book.

I don't know, cosmic shit, multiversal shit, Legion shit, high concept shit, pushing Superman to his limits and not just physically shit. There's lots of stuff that can be done but Tomasi isn't clever enough or ambitious enough to even try.

losers were some cool silver age war comics team. Kinda like DC's version of the OG Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos before Nick switched into the spy thriller genre.
The legendary late Cooke did a nice tribute story of them in a stand alone comic book silver age love letter to DC comics called DC: the new frontier.
You will recall that the dc movie of the same name Justice League: The New Frontier tried to adapt that comic series. Although it cut a lot of the good bits, include the loser centric story.

Millar grew out of his edgy fuckwit phase a while ago, he has grown and evolved. Its not like his name is Garth Ennis....
>>86766863
Besides, every time he wrote edge it was because they were his own edgy characters or Marvel ones. His Superman Adventures run was back in the late 90s (when he wasn't even a big name) and it was wonderful. He pitched a Superman 2000 relaunch proposal alongside Morrison and Waid, but DC rejected it. Many of those ideas went to become All-Star, Birthright and probably some of it ended up in Red Son, a story which wasn't edgy even though it was a Superman gone wrong.

>>86771774
But the Air Force was established as it's own branch in 1947, which is why I asked.
>>86751024
This would honestly be a stronger story without forcing it to explicitly be a crossover with New Frontier, but it's a nice sentiment.
>>86771810
The USAAF was the Army Airforce which was active from 41-47.
>>86762458
>>86762694
It's not really certain, Dinosaur Island COULD exist on Rebirth Earth and the cube just sent them there, or the cube could have sent them to Earth-21. If this arc doesn't have anything that would contradict the events of New Frontier, it's probably safe to assume they were transported to E21.
I like this, but I don't like how Manhke draws Jon. Like why is he still so cartoonish looking? That works when Gleeson is drawing, because it fits with other characters that also look very animated, but it doesn't go well with the rest of Manhke's style at all.
This book man.

Superdad is going to be the main Superman... he always was, anyway. Krypto belongs to him.
It was clear since Superman Rebirth that there's a connection between Superbro and Superdad. They're probably different aspects of the same being and going to be fused in some way.

I've read NF twice and I'd forgotten about their dog until this page.

It's excellent as to art and execution. My only real complaint is that I thought the Centre was a bit undeveloped as an enemy unless you simply view it as a reference to a more genuinely evil Starro. But any graphic novel would be proud to be that well-drawn, designed and laid-out.
>>86751150
Ditto
>>86777237
Ah gotcha. I read that issue, but probably skimmed it.
>>86751916
Technically, Kara did have something of her own - wasn't it underwater or some such? Although since they seem to be saying that all those crappy stories didn't happen, I guess she doesn't.
>>86752381
Nah, he's good at stuff like this.
>>86756512
Almost a date late but that was one of my comments you are responding too. In the past decade, DC has had way too many artist who draw Superman with red lights coming out of his eyes.
Just do a browser search for laser eyes, pick the highest quality textless image you find and send it over electronically to any decent printer and they'll ship you back a nice poster for about the cost of a trade paperback.
My issue with the Robinson variant wasn't the face, it was the hand, which now that I've read more comments, definitely also looks like he's about to DJ.

They literally transported from one earth to another via a process discussed in one the major publishing events of DC's recent history, ending up in a place that is the starting point of what's probably one of the most acclaimed else world re-tellings of DC's entire history of the past 15 years or so.
>nothing
>cheap
What is your actual damage?
>>86750863
Someone edit in a DJ booth for supes
>>86777157
Given that I was responding to someone writing about how stuff was cut, not sure why you think making two-part movies and thus having more time to tell the stories and thus having less material (if any) having to be cut is 'retarded' but sure, that's an excellent, discursive argument.
You go.
>>86752255
Colors are allright.
>>86762077
Action comics suffered from wasting too much damn time on the Doomsday fight, this book has been comfier.
>>86777096
Fuck. Gary Frank makes the Rebirth costume look OUTSTANDING IMO
>>86776983
I feel like writers make Superman harder than he is, which contributes to the whole "aaaaa fuck it its hard someone else do it." thing.
He's a strong, kind man who wants to help people and has adventures doing so. Its a simple concept.
>>86776983
It's definitely a lot more than that, considering how few great Superman runs we've had in decades long of mediocrity. A shitty and unimaginative editorial is just as responsible. Morrison's, Moore's and even Johns' runs on Superman and superman analogues were great because they took the character to his roots and weren't afraid of half a century of his campy mythology.

Sometimes I feel Superman is too good for DC.
>>86774372
>>86792693
Nice
>>86792017
And nothing is Prime Earth, if I'm getting it all correct (post Final Crisis, I think). Some of the Wikias don't seem to be consistent, but I just took a look at the Multiversity Guidebook again as well.
>>86791863
Primates existed ecologically at and approximately around the same time frames as did dinosaurs; forms of snakes pre-date both and, of course, also existed con-currently. The insects drawn could be anthropods and, in any event, the consensus is that they derived from the earliest forms of life on the planet and thus pre-date pretty much anything that isn't a single cell organism and, one again, would be around concurrently.
Just like not everyone on the island of Japan, Hawaii or Cuba is any one thing, so would be true for any other island, irrespective of it's name.
tl;dr = it's a comic book.
>>86792020
Not that anon, but to answer you and anyone else who cares, Tomasi and Gleason gave several interviews that were quoted (or 're' quoted/reprinted) all over the web, but here's one in a direct Q&A format with Tomasi specifically quoted as saying such:

>>86781483
It's hard to make entertaining stories out of that though.
>There are still people who think current DC is edgy and grimdark
I know the forum itself is pretty small and near death and just consists of old fags but fuckit do they just don't like modern comics. How did he even fucking come up with fornication?
>>86799092
Conformation Bias.
They need a reason to be angry, and they're damn well going to find one.
>>86799092
>100% more fornication
That's how you have sons, right? What the fuck do they want? For Superman and Batman to clone themselves?

Superman is too good for comic books really.

>>86750913
So, how did he actually gte out, Super Dad jokes aside? Did he literally communicate with it via it's heart, or did he cause some sort of arythmia that made the fish spit him out? Wait, how the fuck did the fish swallow Superman and Superman was able to get to it's heart from it's digestion tract without killing it? What in the fuck?
>>86762137
He actually can't edge Superman. Honest. Read the thirty plus issues of Superman he's written.
>>86762200
Anon, referencing his Indy shit doesn't make anyone feel better.
