losers were some cool silver age war comics team. Kinda like DC's version of the OG Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos before Nick switched into the spy thriller genre.

The legendary late Cooke did a nice tribute story of them in a stand alone comic book silver age love letter to DC comics called DC: the new frontier.

You will recall that the dc movie of the same name Justice League: The New Frontier tried to adapt that comic series. Although it cut a lot of the good bits, include the loser centric story.

Besides, every time he wrote edge it was because they were his own edgy characters or Marvel ones. His Superman Adventures run was back in the late 90s (when he wasn't even a big name) and it was wonderful. He pitched a Superman 2000 relaunch proposal alongside Morrison and Waid, but DC rejected it. Many of those ideas went to become All-Star, Birthright and probably some of it ended up in Red Son, a story which wasn't edgy even though it was a Superman gone wrong.

It's not really certain, Dinosaur Island COULD exist on Rebirth Earth and the cube just sent them there, or the cube could have sent them to Earth-21. If this arc doesn't have anything that would contradict the events of New Frontier, it's probably safe to assume they were transported to E21.

I like this, but I don't like how Manhke draws Jon. Like why is he still so cartoonish looking? That works when Gleeson is drawing, because it fits with other characters that also look very animated, but it doesn't go well with the rest of Manhke's style at all.

I'm glad to see Manhke on a Superbook, I really like his art, but I think he's trying to make them them look too alike whereas the way they started (as Lee Weeks first started drawing him in the Lois and Clark mini).

NF and All Star Superman are both GN collections that should have been two animated movies; it's a shame that WB will likely never adapt either in to live action (other than perhaps fan service here and there). Especially now that WB Animation has been releasing these two-parters of Bat stories.

Almost a date late but that was one of my comments you are responding too. In the past decade, DC has had way too many artist who draw Superman with red lights coming out of his eyes.

Just do a browser search for laser eyes, pick the highest quality textless image you find and send it over electronically to any decent printer and they'll ship you back a nice poster for about the cost of a trade paperback.

My issue with the Robinson variant wasn't the face, it was the hand, which now that I've read more comments, definitely also looks like he's about to DJ.

It's definitely a lot more than that, considering how few great Superman runs we've had in decades long of mediocrity. A shitty and unimaginative editorial is just as responsible. Morrison's, Moore's and even Johns' runs on Superman and superman analogues were great because they took the character to his roots and weren't afraid of half a century of his campy mythology.
