Anyone got an opinion on North and South Part 1 yet?
>>86750525
In my opinion, reading any Avatar comics aside from those tying the lose ends of the original show, is a mistake and a waste of time.
It was pretty boring. The 'drama' of their widower father finding a new lover is some dull shit straight out of a late 90s teen soap.
>>86750525
Where is it?
>>86752360
"Where"? It's been out for about a week, but I'm waiting to read the scans because I' m poor

Oh, fuck I missed it, thanks
So does /co/ not like the Avatar comics? I haven't been here lately, I thought they were fucking good
It was pretty comfy.
I wanna see if Toph will be able to see.
>>86756024
Is Toph going to be in this one, I wouldn't have thought so
>>86756024
>I wanna see if Toph will be able to see.
It would be weird if she could given that her sight is explained as seeing using earthbending, if there's no earth then she should, by all rights, be snowblind
Here are the summaries for parts 2 and 3:
Part 2:
>After attempting to kidnap Katara and Sokka, Southerner Gilak leaves a haunting note for Hakoda: "Soon you will see the truth, chieftain". The vow leaves everyone on edge–including Katara, who remains wary of the two tribes' integration. As Northerner Malina announces a partnership with the company owned by Toph Beifong's father, her own brother comes forward to defame her. Have Katara's worst fears been confirmed?
Part 3:
>Fire Lord Zuko and Earth King Kuei arrive in the Southern Water Tribe amid protests of Gilak's imprisonment. While the leaders hold council to solidify Malina and Hakoda's unification plans, Gilak breaks free and leads a powerful rebellion! In the face of these two opposing tribes, Katara will have to make peace with her nostalgia and distrust to save the home she loves from being permanently torn apart.
My thoughts:
>I don't know what's the point of releasing covers and summaries 7 months in advance
>It was about time for Sokka and Katara to get their own story, and it was good to keep the focus on them by keeping Aang at least out of part 1
>I'm glad the cliffhangers got less retarded
>I dread a bit that this seems to be shaping up to be a rehash of the civil war we already saw in LoK
>it's nice that Zuko will show up in the trilogy, hopefully it will be like fun field trip saga Zuko again instead of the inner turmoil Zuko we've seen throughout the comics
>I guess that Katara is going to be the main character (the first part made it look like she and Sokka both had equal spotlight)
>It's funny how most of the memes we had in the Varrinet threads about how Northerners and Southerners saw each other turned out to be true (minus the incest)
>>86756630
>(minus the incest)
Keep telling yourself that bub
They should have given Aang, Zuko and Toph Water Tribe clothes for this trilogy.
>>86750525
At this point, I only read these comics for Gurihiru's art. The plots are sloppy at best. The only way Gene Yang knows how to create drama is through stupid political conflicts and having people act out-of-character.
>>86750525
I opinion is that I want Gurihiru to draw porn.
>>86757202
When did anyone act out of character except for Aang being willing to kill Zuko even if he asked him to?
>>86756630
>(minus the incest)
I'm fairly sure that Sokka thinking the architect siblings were married was a nod to that.
>>86750525
I liked it. I think it's on of the better comics released so far.
Sokka and Katara being the only main characters was a benefit because it gave the story some room to breath without juggling 4-5 leads as per usual. The cebtral plot might not be anything astounding but I feel it's being told better than similar plots they've had before.
I think in a lesser issue, something like Hakoda's new girlfriend woul have just been left as "Katara doesn't like her because it's not her Mom" and while that's obviously going to be part of it, I appreciate that they set up that Katara doesn't like her as a person BEFORE revealing the relationship, to give it a bit more depth.
I'm a bit worried the introductions of Aang, Zuko and Toph might pull the attention away from the Water siblings, which would be a shame because they could do with some time in the spotlight and because Sokka hasn't had much to do yet, he just seems to be going along with things blindly and we haven't seen to much of his reasoning for that.
As always, the art is fucking gorgeous. Kudos to the half of Gurihiru who does the colours because the SWT has such a limited palette but it looked fantastic.

At least they didn't walk in 5 minutes later

They live in one room huts, I'm pretty sure they'll have seen Hakoda's nutsack before.

Who said anything about edits?
Yang's just seeing what he can get away with at this point.
What the fuck where Sokka and Katara doing in the year between ATLA's ending and The Promise that they never bothered going back to their home?
>>86763127
Relocating Fire colonials.

Stopping Hundred Year War 2: Roku Boogaloo, helping Zuko bang his Mom and whatever the clusterfuck of things which constitute the plot of The Rift was.

What the fuck else was there besides the incest?
>>86750525
Wait, it's out?
>>86763569
NWT considering the SWT to be uncultured savages
SWT being butthurt about how they had to face the Fire Nation for 100 years while the NWT hid behind their wall.
>>86763769
Wasn't that in the cartoons? It's been a while since I saw ATLA.
Also, I miss VarriNet threads
>>86763902
In ATLA? No. North and South never said anything bad about each other. North was very gracious towards Sokka and Katara when they were at the North Pole.
Katara thought the swampbenders were gross though and recoiled at the thought of being kin to them.
I liked the nostalgic callbacks to the first episode, and agree with >>86759425 that the art benefits from the limited blue palette. Hopefully one of the better comics along with Rift.
>>86764384
It seems more Rift-like from the first issue.
The Les Fire Nation drama, the better.
>>86756630
>I guess that Katara is going to be the main character
I hope not too much. If Sokka goes this whole trilogy without having any impact or agency, I'll be pissed.
Yang writing Sokka is frustrating as fuck, because he does the sibling stuff with Katara so well but when it comes to the plot, he can't elevate Sokka higher than the stupid, doofus buttmonkey of the Team
