How bad did Wizard's influence on the industry fuck up comics for you back in the 90s/00s
Growing up i loved Wizard
The industry at that time was fucked all to hell on it's own, for a lot of complex reasons. Wizard didn't help, but it was just a symptom, not the disease.

They even made a Lobo comic about them!

I bought all these shitty Lady Death comics because of them

You bloody fool. Were the Ostrander books good at least?

What did Wizard do wrong, exactly?
>>86737701
The same that BC or CBR do; hyping shit and valuing comics for all the wrong reasons.

Wizard did some good. I and many other kids who only knew comics based on what was on newsstands would have never found out about comics like Preacher, Hellboy, Sin City, Stray Bullets, Bone, and countless others if not for Wizard.

I liked the meta articles, role calls, and mego theater.
But >>86737756 is right, they hyped too much and the prices were made up like ebay prices.

So really nothing has changed.

Only understand that Wizard was the only game in town. It was THE comic biz magazine. Company biases, skeevy advertising practices, and the world turned on its bullshit price guide. Gareb Shamus danced and sang as his magazine ushered everyone towards the edge of a cliff.
Wizard did all the garbage that current "comics journalism" sites do now, but it had real pull. More than a little of the blame for the 90's crash can be laid at their feet.Which isn't to say it was all bad. It was a real magazine some of the time.

Just the subject matter of the articles. Today's audience would complain about Wizard being like a bunch of drunken college bros. You wouldn't see CBR getting away with the stuff Wizard did back then.

>and the prices were made up like ebay prices.
eBay at least gives you an idea of how much people buy on there, though, when you look at enough completed auctions.
I think it might've actually helped harm the need to follow Wizard's price guide, since a lot of their prices were higher than what they were going for on eBay.
