Casual matchmaking is absolutely fucking awful. Community servers are a little better, but they are dying a slow death thanks to the garbage matchmaking system replacing the old 'click here to be funneled into a community server that you might like' system.

Its a shame that they just dont have a skirmish mode where you can just enter and leave when ever you want.

Sure the weekly brawls are fun, but having a competitive mode kills the community in the worst way.

Meet Your Match update. Ruined quickplay.
>>
>>86714379
I believe that TF2 tried to set up there match making similarly to over watch. But it failed, having some players lose XP for winning matches among other stuff.

then you have the WAR pyro vs heavy update where you had to choose which of the two classes gets an update.
>>
>>86714379
>No more pubs
>No more server browser for Valve server's
>Casual mode instead
On it's initial release Casual Mode:
>You were forced to pick multiple gamemodes and maps instead of the one you want
>You had time penalties for abandoning a casual match
>Wait times would last to 5-9 minutes
>People in more international places like Australia or Japan would get connected to different continents and can't do anything about it
>After 2-3 matches the game is over and you auto-disconnect
And for Comp
>Comp was in beta for six months
>Literally made not a single change in those six months
>Not gonna bother putting more examples cause that would take me like two pages but trust me, it's as bad as it sounds

Some things got fixed, especially Casual which got a complete overhaul but as I mentioned before I still find myself with more unbalanced teams then not. Comp on the other hand was and continues to be a miscarriage.
>>
>>86714379
There was a very divisive update that removed the old quick play server system and replaced it with one that was broken at the beginning and randomly matches you into a server based on several maps and game modes you select. I don't mind it personally, as I never used quick play and they've fixed a fair bit since launch, like at first you had to go back to the queue screen every time a round ended, but now it's more like it used to be. You can vote for rematches with the same players on the same map or just wait until you're matched into a new game without going back to the queue screen. They also added a competitive mode, but it still kind of sucks and a lot of weapons are still unbalanced.
>>
>>86714588
IIRC. Heavy vs Pyro said both would get updates, the vote was just who gets theirs first.

I have trouble enjoying playing after MYM. Yeah, Valve is trying to fix the issues, thats great, but my community server favourites are all dead. Disappointing as fuck, and I have no idea why the one Payload 24/7 died when it was so active basically all the time.

I still love the hell out of the comics and a lot of SFM stuff though.
>>
>>86715286
>Disappointing as fuck, and I have no idea why the one Payload 24/7 died when it was so active basically all the time.
The quick play option would funnel casuals into a server, even if it was at 0/24. Once a few casuals were dicking around, regulars would see people in the server, so they'd join, boosting the number further, encouraging more regulars to join until it filled up. Most regulars won't play in a 0/24 server in the vague hopes that someone'll join, but little timmy and his faggot friends don't mind boosting the number up so they can play together, acting like kindling to start a fire. Granted, with this system there are always some shitters running around, but that just means you get free cannon fodder while you play against the real players on the server. And it's also a way to introduce new potential regulars to the server, boosting those numbers further long-term.

The matchmaking breaks all that. Now, everyone just gets put in a regular vanilla valve server and the community servers are completely invisible unless you specifically search them out, which casuals won't do, which means no kindling to start the fire. So, overnight, a huge number of them just died.
>>
>>86715286
You can try the skial servers. Those are probably the only community servers I've played that have kept their numbers steady, and as a bonus they also have modded game servers for shit like Saxton Hale for a change of pace.

I don't see Scout winning against tracer so easily, sure Scout has many options but if we go by game limitations he can only use a combination of 3 weapons while the blink and "free heal" from tracer's recall makes her very hard to kill and if she lands her ultimate Scout is a goner unless he happens to drink a Bonk before it explodes, which limits his attack capabilities. The only thing Scout has a clearly advantage apart from weapon selection is the ability to reach places Tracer cannot thanks to his double jump

>>86711615
It's filled the gap, mostly because I've found the community is a lot more competent than TF2.

If you go into a comp match in Overwatch, there won't be any "le frednly sandvich hoobys :3 no kill plz".

I'll eventually get bored of Overwatch and flutter back to TF2 for a bit, but OW and TF2 are basically the best class-based shooters on the market right now, not counting Killing Floor or Star Wars Battlefront.

Is a fun game, and I appreciate the amount of attention Blizz is giving it (compared to Valve, who put half a man and a potted plant on TF2 after they started making easy DOTA/CS money).
>>
>>86712008
>Overwatch isn't and likely never will be set up to operate like TF2 does with the community involvement for items and such
Good.
I'd be fine with community skins getting accepted, but stuff like Mannconomy and user-submitted updates is part of what made Valve get lazy and stop updating it in the first place.

The effort from the community is beyond admirable, but the mindset of "woah, we can just toss 50 new workshop items in and call it an update!" is the cancer that's killing TF2.
>>
>>86720319
>class-based
>Battlefront
The PS2 games yeah, kinda, but EA's Battlefront? Nah.
>>
>>86713384
What's the next Halloween event gonna be?

Last one didn't even have a boss, right? It was just a bundle of (admittedly fantastic) community maps?
>>
>>86712008
It is an inevitability what with ActiBlizzard's current model of having control of all elements as possible. You will probably never see any kind of community servers to browse in Overwatch complete with unnofficial maps and the like, and the way Heros and loot are structured you're even more unlikely to see any kind of community made items for the game either.
Maybe they'll hold a contest for one, who knows, but all I can see coming out of that are alt skins and sprays.
>>
>>86709673
I like them a lot.
>>
>>86714087
Why did they get rid of the server browser?
I checked in because I was excited for the new WAR!, hoping to score some points for Heavy to get a new loadout, and they just replaced it with a boring auto-sorter.

Like, fuck, what if I wanna go on a 24/7 Halloween server?
>>
>>86720397
But that's not the community fault, it's Valve. Can you really blame someone for enjoying something so much they decide to do fan content just for the devs to abuse their fans?

The whole set of these comics are just as good as the game in it's prime. They're some of the most fun comics I've ever read and easily a top 5 as far as comedy goes.

>>86720125
Well don't forget that TF2 had more modes at launch but didn't get that many official modes added by Valve. And that's something you can't get out of modern AAA shooters like before: community supported content.

So much of TF2's official content is community created or community inspired. That's a strength that older shooters have always had for games that can survive more than half a decade. There's literally no way to guess where the fuck OW is going because the community so far has only added complaining about balance, which you'd have to pick and choose what's correct or what actually works. And they're looking to be doing stuff like that post-comp seasons (so every 3 months).

>>86720228
This is retarded, though. There's 20+ classes, if you give them subweapons or shit, it's going to be a bigger shitfest to tell what's actively going on. Especially since the visual cues of this game are as important as TF2's, but isn't anywhere near as organized as TF2's used to be.
>>
>>86714588
TF2 comp is godawful just because the game is so poorly balanced.

It works as a chaotic fun time, but when you try and make it "competitive" it becomes utter shit because there's so many weapons and variables that the game wasn't built to consider in the first place.

When you get those few matches where everyone needs to team-up and it becomes a drag-out fight to the last man, it's amazing, but competitive TF2 just doesn't work unless you're always playing on a premade team of 6.

Also
>Not voting for Heavy to get a new loadout
>>
>>86720525
They want to standardize the game, make people more serious and competitive about it.

The biggest flaw with this plan though is they literally didn't give a shit about comp for 8 years and when they released it they released a half-assed pre-alpha that barely functions. But despite being completely unfinished they had the balls to say they'll only support comp if we play what is given to us and make it work.

Valve doesn't give a shit about TF2 anymore so they expects the community to do all the leg work yet are to afraid to let them have any remote control; It's absolutely insane, neurotic and downright abusive.
>>
>>86720125
That's not to say that it took a while for TF2 to get some variety going either, and it doesn't help that most of the post-release modes (territory control, payload race, whatever cp_steel was) never took off. Now they got Mannpower and PASS Time and both of those are so unpopular that the only people playing them are achievement whores.
>>
>>86714597
>Some things got fixed, especially Casual which got a complete overhaul
Elaborate?
Maybe I've got an excuse to get back in. Can I just hop onto a server and stay there over the course of a few hours, just moving from map to map with whomever happens to be chilling there alongside me? That was always the comfiest experience.

>competitive TF2 just doesn't work unless you're always playing on a premade team of 6

competitive tf2 doesn't work unless you use the preset rules that the community has for the past couple years that valve and the devs completely ignored

they put in 6s, but didn't enforce the 6s mentality, so you can't blame the average person for not being a part of the constant hivemind of 2 scout, a pocket, a roamer, a demo and a med
they just took what the community made and sort of put in a cheap version of it that was official

if they had gone with highlander instead of comp, then they easily could have enforced the concept of letting people slot into a class and you'd get stronger matchups as far as official games go

except the devs don't believe in HL because b4nny doesn't and anything b4nny tells them is sacred law
>>

To be fair, they already released a brand new character (who only had to be rebalanced like once after releasing because Blizz beta tests properly) and have been dealing with all this world tournament shit leading up to BlizzCon.

I feel like we're gonna get something decent for Halloween, followed by a massive update once BlizzCon is through.

There's been a resurgence of community servers that do this but Valve server's still don't function like that. Instead it gives you the option to either have a rematch of the game or reque immediately so you don't have to wait to long for the next map.

Least it didn't do what Guns of Icarus Online did, where they canned the server browsing entirely and gave the community the finger in order to please the PS4 userbase with their version of the game. It was so fucking stupid of a move it actually killed off a large portion of the PC playerbase. The worst part is that with the current consolized matchmaking shit they put in place you can't change which ship or position you want to play so 9/10 times you end with the retard pilots that don't know anything because they spend all their time as gunner or engineer.

Just like in the game, Recall is basically a super-safe get out of jail free card that you can play at just about any time if you get outplayed.

Oh I don't blame the community in the slightest.
I blame Valve for taking something that SHOULD have been amazing and turning it into a way to validate their own laziness.

The community does damn good work, but Valve needs to remember that THEY make the game.
It's why whenever a new Melee gets added for the Demoman or Heavy, there's a good chance it's just a reskin of the Eyelander or GRU.

The community deserves better support for the work they put out; if no community items means that the dev will keep producing quality content (instead of outsourcing maps and models to teams of community members for no money, then releasing it as an entire update), then so be it.

Sit down, you're not gonna like this:
Axetinguisher got nerfed to shit, even with Degreaser it's a full 2 seconds to draw and attack speed is half the normal.
Degreaser switch-from speed also significantly lower.
Ullapool Caber also nerfed to shit similarly, it also does less damage so Scouts actually survive getting hit.
Overdose ubercharge rate is now less than Kritzkrieg.
Righteous Bison only hits once per target now.
Battalion's Backup now needs damage dealt for rage like Buff Banner.
Claidheadmor doesn't provide extra shield charge distance anymore.
Mini-Sentries nerfed to shit, they deploy slower and are easier to destroy as they deploy.
Jag now needs three hits to remove a sentry, and are terrible at repairing buildings.
Short Circuit can only remove projectiles within ~30 degrees of your field of vision, and the cost is incremented for each one.
Spies now run as fast as Medics, making it harder to chase them down as every other class.

I really dunno why Valve didn't just put Highlander in there. It's so obviously better suited to the way TF2 was built than "six of whatever you want".

Like, they were given however many options for comp, and they went with the one where "everyone go Scout" is a viable option.

A lot of popular 6s players absolutely hate HL, and the devs who work on TF2 are all smalltime parts of the company that haven't really worked on much of the game or for very long, so they leaned on some of the bigger players for advice.

Not him, but you kind of miss the point

Pyro is supposed to be a class that accels at close range, but really shines at mid-range. The range that people typically take out their shotguns for.

That's because Pyro is meant to fend at close range so things can't just rush them and out DPS them while fighting at mid-range as things try to stay away from their flamethrower -> Sting combo

Now, they don't have that. They're a very weak flanking class that relies entirely on people not paying attention except they don't even get the benefit of being able to OHK things in close-range like spies do. They can't outDPS anything that has more health than they do (I've seen Medics just bonesaw pyros to death now if they get into a confrontation, they're like a joke), and their best asset so far is the ability to puff someone and then retreat to safety and hope the DOT is enough to finish off whatever is on fire.

It's a huge gimp and I hope they rectify this soon. The only saving grace they have that continues to allow them to be a front-line fighter instead of someone that just picks off stragglers are the Panic Attack buffs, and guess what? Soldier and Engineer can use that gun, too. While having other roles and uses on the battlefield.

Puffsting was a problem that needed addressing, but nerfing Pyro while keeping things like his glitched flame killed that class.

The thing is, it's tough to buff pyro's flamethrower damage without encouraging the brainless kamikaze pyros to do what they've always done, but even more effectively. Puff and sting was shit because having your mobility restricted in a game all about movement is infuriating, but as someone who plays a lot of sniper, having a bald, brain dead pyro just walk at you is also annoying. There's no winning, pyro is a heinously broken class, but not even in the old Loch n Load or current Danger Shield way, its fundamentally broken.

Puffsting was a one-trick tactic that offered free kills if you were near a wall.

It takes literally no skill to execute and promoted lone-wolf MLG kill-hunter Pyro play instead of the ambush/distraction/harassment tactics that the class was built on.

Every puffsting Pyro I ever ran into was some kid decked out in unusuals purchased with mom's credit card. They never stood on the objective, never hunted Spies, and never extinguished teammates.

I don't care that it was basically an insta-kill (since Spies can backstab and Snipers can headshot), but it encouraged shitty playstyles and made the game objectively less fun for everyone else.
>>

>"do whatever you want, just do something" work ethic
See, this was a great idea when they were a smaller dev/think tank putting out stuff like Portal and L4D.

Now they're a PLATFORM, essentially, and they need to crack the whip a bit to ensure their product is good.
This hippie-dippy "we don't like rules or deadlines" shit can work in small doses (see Blizzard's "it'll release when it's ready" approach), but their support system is a literal joke and no one is focusing on one of the main pillars of their company.

Hell, I bet they could pick up some community modders to give TF2 a complete overhaul who would work for peanuts. Can you imagine if they just scooped up a bunch of folks from Facepunch or Polycount and said "here's your deadline, update the game so people will stop being mad"?

>All Grordbort weapons are buffed/fixed
>Useless weapons are made useful

>New loadout sets for every class
>Official VS Saxton Hale type mode
>Official Balloon Race type mode
>Weird model shit/nitpicks are taken care of (Demo's grenade launcher is given the correct number of chambers)

>Assume it's all over
>They actually hold it long enough for me to rebuild everything up to level 3 multiple times
>mfw we actually pull a victory right out of our collective asses
>100+ score as Engie, 4 doms, team MVP

TF2 is one of those games that is usually pretty fun, but turns into a transcendental experience if you get the right setup.

It's like a 8-9/10 game that will occasionally rocket up past 11/10 for select matches.

This negro gets it.
Overwatch and TF2 are different games with different qualities and detriments.

I've got a couple thousand hours logged in TF2 and got burned out on it after the matchmaking fiasco, Overwatch has definitely scratched the same class-shooter itch in the meantime.

>Soldier is fucking invincible more or less thanks to those pills.
Shit, that's honestly some new level of power tier. How strong can Soldier get now? Can he actually beat Power Man?

why didn't one of the enemy spies just go sit by your spawn with a cloak and dagger destroying every teleporter as soon as they're put down

Scout was a little more than a SENTEY GUN.
No chase scenes, no JUMPING...
Hard to give them credit when THAT is what they did...

Still holding out for Scout's based voice actor reacting to it in scout's own voice.

I made the mistake of putting Dustbowl on my map selection after the update and it led to one of my favorite matches ever. We got demolished through the first two stages, they get the first point of the last stage just as easily, and I finally get a chance to get my buildings up and after some early success with a sneaky sentry placement the rest of the team rallied and we ended up with 4 or 5 total engies constantly building upgrading and rebuilding each others shit as fast as they get destroyed, I end up moving my sentry to a few different spots for better coverage, in the last 60 seconds the enemy breaks through, I'm the last one alive with no buildings up, and I slip a level one sentry into my original spot again and with that and the rescue ranger I kill off half a dozen BLUs and win the match, and as everyone is talking in chat about what a good match it was the voice comes again *Prepare to compete in sixty seconds* and everyone realized that was only the first round.

I think that game was the first time I broke 100 points on the MVP list

Been meaning to make one porn fic of the two for some time, and I think I found the title of the fic; thanks anon!

If you are curious, it would be based like that Death Battle, but Scout wouldn't even be trying on purpose, as Tracer notices that he enjoys being dominated and slowly yet surely rolls along with it. Also debating on having Wiz and Boomstick in the sidelines complaining about all their "research" flying out the window.

The only classes they like are scout soldier demoman and medic.

Please no. Just keep to the feisty cat versus other cat sexual dance and I'll be satisfied.

Gravelpit is my favorite fucking map to this day. It's where I learned to play Scout after watching an ancient video on how to play him and still my go-to A/D map for fun.

>Bro Tier
Medic Mains
Heavy Mains (who share their sandvich)
Pyro Mains (who extinguish teammates/use Homewrecker)
Engie Mains
Guys who switch frequently to suit the situation
That dude with the gimmick name/voice/avatar who stays in character the entire match (and can actually play well)

>Inoffensive Tier
Heavy Mains
Demoman Mains
Decent Players
Jack of All Trades, Master of None

>Shit Tier
Scout Mains
Soldier Mains
Spy Mains (who know what they're doing)

>"You Have to Be At Least 13 Years Old to Make a Steam Account" Tier
Sniper Mains
Spy Mains
Pyro Mains
That kid with the gimmick name/voice/avatar who tries to stay in character the entire match
"pls no kill, conga/sandvich party xD"

This is obviously satire, but it's accurate enough.

Or just make him do the voices as if it was the scout reading the comic.
>>
>>86725830
I guess that would be okay but I liked the idea of the guy having to try to imitate the voices because the rest of them aren't scrounging in the trash trying to hold onto fame from a role they did the original work for 9 years ago.
