Let's have a definitive discussion on the subject of Mjolnir and those deemed worthy to wield him.
To begin with, I'm going to make an assertion that runs counter to most people's perceptions of this concept as a foundational pillar of my interpretation, which is that there are no actual arbitrary rules in regards to what makes one worthy and this worthiness is in fact a deeper symbolic mystery that runs to the core themes of the Thor mythos.
Ultimately, Mjolnir has no real power on it's own. Mjolnir acts as a symbolic expression and actualization of the individual wielders own inner will to power. Rather than having a set of guidelines it expects the wielder to conform to, Mjolnir in fact demands that whomever wields it be the living realization of their own conception of worthiness that was developed autonomously.
Mjolnir acts as a means of channeling and outwardly manifesting ones own inner power. Note that even it's inscription claims that the power originates with Thor, not with itself.
Mjolnir is sentient and makes the calls

What he said >>86709220
Mjolnir is sentient, in fact, the next issue of Thor will be all about Mjolnir's history, and we'll presumably get an explanation on its "worthiness" criteria.

The sentience of Mjolnir would reflect the vision of it's wielders fully actualized higher ideals.
If Mjolnir gave itself a physical body, how good would it be at arm wrestling.

Mjolnir would be a manlet

A Parkour manlet, but a manlet nonetheless.

But... that was just Odin's doing. Goddamn, I hate retcons.

Odin cast the original spell, but now the hammer has a mind of its own. It actually backfired on him, since Odin himself can't even lift the damn thing anymore.

Whoops.

Well that was a mistake on his part.

Yup, the old coot demanded that his son lived up to a standard that he himself didn't meet. Before he presumably got around Mjolnir's enchantment since he's the one who cast it, but with time the hammer gained a will of its own and now rejects him.
