why do these things like star wars so much?

Because despite their odd claim that nostalgia is ruining the world, that's the only real example they can come up with aside from vague 'remember the 80's/90's' comments since every other nostalgia cash in in recent years has been a huge flop. Since that counters the point they're making, they ignore it.
