I don't think hipster is the right word. As >>86418741 said, it operates more on millennial stereotypes. They live a self-absorbed lifestyle, chase fads, value comfort over all else, are alternately image-obsessed and quite shameless, and ultimately hold an optimistic and inoffensive view of life.

They're slackers of the new variety, as opposed to say, Mordecai and Rigby, who are slackers in the older sense.
