So Batman, more so than a lot of other heroes, was fucked over hard by the CCA. And sure, I know a lot of people like the West TV show and comics of that era, but Batman was almost canceled in that era.

My question is, at what point did Batman devolve into CCA boring shit and at what point did Batman start being good again.

tl;dr Unless you are someone like Superman or were able to have cool stories like Flash silver age a shit

no fun allowed

One thing i find interesting is we seemed to have entered the generation of readers who never had to deal with the cca.

We had a thread a few days ago with people auctualy arguing against the cbldf.
>>
>>86367232
How do you argue about the CBLDF?
>>
>>86367232
>We had a thread a few days ago with people auctualy arguing against the cbldf.
>There are people arguing against an institution created solely for the enforcement of the first amendment
Now I ain't saying /pol/ is always right...
>>
>>86367311
They released a banned books list dealing with diversity and sexual themes, so people immediately flipped shit.
>>
>>86367354
>>86367383

I fucking know. Arguing against the cfldf is like arguing against the NRA or GOA. What kinda fucking retard wants fewer rights and more government control of shit?
>>
>>86367383
Bone has managed to find its way onto banned books lists. Those things never make sense.
>>
>>86367501
Pretty much, but it was a bunch of fags screaming about how they can't be trusted anymore because they're clearly just SJW's now. It was fucking ridiculous.
>>
>>86367568
But even retarded subhumans like SJWs deserve free speech
>>
>>86367311
Somebody found a way

I think the problem isn't so much the CBLDF itself, but the supporters it attracts. The kind that will go "No books should ever be banned!" on one hand, and then on the other will go "I don't like the contents of *this* book, so maaaaaybe if the creator or publisher were strong armed into not releasing is anymore, would that REALLY be so bad?".
>>
>>86367658
Okay but maybe your problems will be solved if you stop making up people who disagree with you.
>>
>>86367354
>Now I ain't saying /pol/ is always right.
How is this /pol/ being right? They were arguing the CBLDF because they were defending books that were banned for diversity.
>>
>>86367705
Were there any (((posters))) of (((creators))) making this argument?
>>
>>86367684
But that shit fucking happens. Waid is a prime example. But okay, fuck you too I suppose.
>>

Batman started targeting kids almost immediately, which was the whole impetus behind Robin.

By the time the CCA came around Batman had been a wacky adventure book for years. Pic related is from 1945.

The only thing that changed with the CCA was that the criminals couldn't be shown using guns and stories couldn't have realistic crime, so criminals all became costumed and writers had to come up with more fantastic plots.

The 60's show was lambasting these 1940's comics specifically. And while I find Bill Finger's work in the Golden Age spectacular, I have a soft spot for the sci-fi inspired globe-trotting adventures of the 50's and 60's that were what inspired stuff like Brave and the Bold and Grant Morrison's run.

I can storytime some of the 40's stuff to show you what it was actually like, if anybody wants.
>>
>>86367718
What?
>>
Denny O'Neil made Batman good again in the Bronze Age. Silver Age Batman is universally trash. I should know, I actually read all of it. It took a while.
>>
>>86367746
So comics were shit until the 1970s?
>>
>>86365558
Batman was pretty good during the silver age. He was a time Travellers during the Golden age too
>>
>>86367799
Marvel was what started the trend towards more longform storytelling, realistic plots and flawed characters in the early 60's.
>>
>>86367799
Marvel started off with some good stuff in the 60's, but pretty much this.

What are you talking about?

Comic book legal defense fund.
They fight to keep comics from getting baned.
>>
>>86367438
feminists, SJWs, Muslims, Christians

you get the idea
>>
>>86368031
There is a group called the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. They do many great things for every facet of the industry, from defending shop owners from obscenity charges for selling comics, defending readers charged with child pornography charges for having manga to having the illegal taxation of comic books overturned in California during the 90s. They also fight against banning books from libraries, and in a thread earlier this week some people were saying the CBLDF was bad because they were saying the books were banned for diversity because they were, specifically Persepolis was banned in Texas for introducing Islamic literature to the children and someone's parents tried to have Sandman pulled from their daughters college because it had transsexuals in it.
>>
>>86365558
After about its first year, Batman stories where exactly like the West TV show but set in the 40s. And it was great. But you need to actually read those comics instead of relying on wikipedia.

>at what point did Batman start being good again
>durrr good means dark
>>
>>86367641
Man /co/ does get triggered easily
>>
>>86368053
>>86368236

Jesus Christ, I *know* what the CBLDF is; I was referring to "I don't like the contents of *this* book, so maaaaaybe if the creator or publisher were strong armed into not releasing is anymore, would that REALLY be so bad?". and "Waid is a prime example."

Fucking hell.
>>
>>86367232
>One thing i find interesting is we seemed to have entered the generation of readers who never had to deal with the cca.

That hasn't happened yet. The CCA still is the guiding framework for what passes as edgy and controversial in US capeshit.

Im marking deadman dark mansion of forbiden love as the end of the ccas infulunce.
They were the 2 genres hit hardest.
>>
>>86368940
Horror and romance?
>>
>>86368539
Oh, people are stupid and only like to defend the rights when its for things they like.
>>
>>86369026
Yeah. Prehapes not the hardest hit but hit pretty hard.
>>
>>86365558
Wertham, burn in hell
>>
>>86369416
Oh come on im sure he had good intentions at least.
Save your vitrol for loraine willams.
>>
>>86369416
Even Wertham thought things went too far and that the CCA was too strict.
