It was never funny. Billy was stupid and unlikeable. Mandy had a stick up her ass and was unlikeable. Grim was just plain annoying. The only people who remember it fondly are those who waifu Mandy.

The show really shined when it was about Grim and the large cast of supporting characters. Dracula, Hoss Delgado, Eris, Nergal, Fred Fredburger (in doses), Boogie, etc.

It was dumb, but in a good way.
It's not always easy to make good dumb.
You could also tell that the creators, despite how they would parody it, had a genuine love for gothic/horror subcultures.
I remember the first time that I saw Purple Filth do that goth metal song I thought it was super rad

Somewhere down the line, they decided to make it so that every character except Mandy and Grim was retarded and they also had to compensate for this by making Billy even dumber than he was before. And then you've got them adding characters like Fred Fredburger adding even more retards to the cast of characters.

This show is a textbook example of why there shouldn't be more than one idiot character in a series.
