Yesterday's Earth 2 Society panel made me wonder about other examples of in-universe statements that double as comment on previous runs, other creators, shit like that. Post your good ones.

The very last page of the last book Rick Remender wrote for Marvel even though he was clearly going to continue Cap and had apparently been working on something for the X-Books

Not an example of what OP is asking for because it's not in-universe, it's a comment on the cover.
>>
>>86294566
OP was looking for more examples and it's not the exact same thing, no, but it's funny, so...

Giffen cancellation "fuck you" endings are a conversation with the company publishing them, at least.

Except that was Abnett's point. Robinson left because they didn't give him control. Editorial did the world-building on that book and that's why it's shitty.

maybe you need backstory

>To set the scene, in the early 1970s, Stan Lee became the publisher of Marvel Comics and Roy Thomas took over Stan Lee’s Editor-in-Chief job. John Romita, meanwhile, took over Stan Lee’s Art Director job. In 1974, Thomas resigned and was replaced by Len Wein and Marv Wolfman (Wein in charge of the superhero comics and Wolfman in charge of the black and white magazines). By the time Strange Tales #181 came out, Wein had either resigned or was JUST about to resign (I think it was likely that he was still in charge when the issue was written but had resigned before the issue actually came out). Wolfman then took over the Editor-in-Chief role entirely (Wolfman, too, left in 1976 and was replaced by Gerry Conway).

It's a really good issue, I recommend it. The entire comic is great, but this one was the highlight for me and you can understand it even if you didn't read the previous ones.

>>86299824
I don't not appreciate commentary on the status quo, but it's also a really easy target by now to do generally. Very specific jabs are interesting to me.

Same issue, not sure if this is a dig at Hickman, but it's a shot fired at something
>>
>>86300627
>but it's a shot fired at something
Morrison?
>>
>>86300661
LOST is obviously there on the page, but it seems more aimed at someone writing current ongoings, which Morrison isn't.
>>
>>86300627
>talk about skimping stories and character development in favor of layers of inscrutable bullshit
>"LOST" right there in bold
Yeah I wonder who it could be a dig at
>>
>>86300940

which is half bullshit, Lost did great character work.
>>
>>86300940
To be fair, Lost didn't really skimp on the character development.
It was quite good in that department.

It did definitely go full obfuscation by the end, though
>>
>>86300627
I'm pretty certain Rick likes Morrison.

Could be Hickman, but it feels like it could just be a random dig. Maybe more aimed at tv and movies.
>>
>>86294419
Is that Marvel logo actually in that panel, or is it a watermark? If it's intentional, it's pretty funny
>>
>>86300341
Ewing's take is interesting, though, I think. It's basically "In the end, all things in comics will revert to the status quo, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying or pushing boundaries or changing things". It's a bit more... optimistic? than most takes.
>>
>>86297550
And thats exactly what happened they were reduced to.
>>
>>86299238
I'm sorry you don't like stories where characters are allowed to have real arcs and permanent change.

>Pointless fights against pointless supercriminals
I hate when writers try to get snippy about that, it makes no sense in-universe, it's not pointless at all, if the heroes don't fight the villains, the Earth gets destroyed/conquered.

the whole Kid Loki epic, stretching from the stuff imminently prior all the way to the end of Agent of Asgard was a metacommentary on character development vs status quo
