Steven carefully placed the last shard and let out a long held breath. Before him on the table lay a smooth white oval gem, once so familiar, but now with barely-visible cracks along it's surface. It had taken months of painstaking searching along the beach to find all of Pearl's shards, and another week to put them back together. The most intricate and important puzzle he had ever done.

"Rose was never able to restore a shattered Gem, Steven." Garnet said as she laid a hand on his shoulder. "You have to be aware that this might not work."

Steven looked back at her, downcast. "I know. But I have to try. If it wasn't-"

He closed his eyes and lay his hands on the table. He tried not to think of that day. If anything had gone a little better, she might still be here. If his shield was a little bigger, if he had arrived a moment earlier, if his bubble had been slightly stronger... No. It wasn't worth thinking about. All that mattered was where he was and how to move forward. He looked down at the gem in front of him. He licked his thumb. Garnet and Amethyst leaned forward ever so slightly. Steven gently dragged his wet and trembling thumb across the gem, careful to not disturb the shards.

A white light filled the room as the Gem began to glow. The spiderweb of cracks started to fill in from the center. Nervous, and slowly at first, Steven started laughing uncontrollably. Amethyst's face turned from expectant concern to a wide grin. As Pearl's gem started levitation of the table, they embraced each other and started jumping excitedly while Garnet just watched, silent and awestruck. When the last of the cracks disappeared, a bright form grew from the gem, growing more detailed as it went. Steven rushed to hug her before her form had even fully dimmed.

"Pearl!" he cried, burying his face into her leg and wetting her suit with his tears. "I'm so glad you're back, I thought I'd never see you again!"

Pearl looked around, confused by the Amethyst screaming with joy and the Garnet with wet cheeks. She looked down at the... thing that had attached to her leg. She gently pushed it away and knelt in front of it with a smile. "I'm glad too. What should I call you, mistress?"

The barn arc was the best arc in this series hands down; I loved the way they development Peridot, a careful and realistic way to clash her homeworld views with the CGs; development rarely seen in children's cartoons, if ever done as well. Zuko is the only example I think of.
