I was legitimately shocked they made Bill the endgame villain. He always felt like a non threat in earlier appearances.
>>
If you were following the crazy cryptogram stuff, Bill was a lot scarier just by virtue of the fact that he was fucking everywhere.

I'm pretty sure there's a picture of him hidden in almost every episode- like there was some kind of crazy cult worshipping him or something.

Bill was creepy for me in that he came across as the kind of slightly weird but 'alright' dude you'd meet in college who'd maybe give you a small favour like lift one time and then turns up at your house a week later at 3am shouting that you owe him one and the cops are after him for some reason. You now now he's pretty mentally unstable and if you decline he might strangle your cat.

Bill was good until the last two episodes, best moment was screwing Mabel over in DaMvtF.

But truly Bill's greatest villainous moment was raping tumblr, leading to mass triggerings. The most innocent drawings of the monster lead to reports to the FBI and doxxings coming from horrified SJWs just trying to protect civilization from his evil. But no one took them seriously, and a generation of tumblrinas with PTSD was left to somehow deal with the trauma on its own.

Seriously, has any fictional character in history ever terrorized tumblr more than Bill has? I think not.

And I am being serious.
>>

>>
>>86127061
Who is this?
>>
>>86126891
>>86126897

Tumblr SJWs decided that shipping Bill with anyone was literal rape or worse and launched a nonsensical campaign to protect the childrens from pictures like this one. Some also decided that all pictures of Bill should be marked with a trigger warning like this - tw: bill because Bill is just so very scary. Bill psychologically abused tumblr and they all have nightmares every night now, along with weird dirty sexual fantasies that they have to self-flagellate about all the time to do penance.

Some SJWs even doxxed people who drew Bill and reported them to the FBI but for some crazy reason the Feds didn't seem to feel it was a good use of their time I dunno why.

Of course tumblr does this with everything but the off the rails and severely mentally ill SJW types latched onto Bill specifically for some reason.

Friendly reminder that drawing or talking about Bill is literal sexual abuse.

It doesn't make any sense to me either, but it is what it is.

Correction: Hater can potentially be more powerful than her. The problem is Hater rarely lives up to his potential, while Dominator does. This is just a character flaw feature; she´s confidant in her abilities while Hater isn´t so much.

I'd say he was good until later in S2, and he collapsed for the same reason the entire show did; there was no way they could've delivered on the eldritch shit they were angling at. It's the "showing the monster" problem, only in this case the monster was supposed to be beyond human comprehension so it may have been impossible to write.

I don't think Bill showed his true form, I would have liked something freakier and more Lovecraft.

But I'm not sure he is a demon, more like a Flatland citizen who wound up in a Black Lodge sort of dimension for a long long time, and being ancient and malicious people called him a demon, or maybe that's where the concept came from in that universe. But not a demon in a Judeo-Christian sense. I don't think Bill thinks he's evil, I think he thinks that he is doing the right thing, for freedom.

I think you can tell that 2B in general was rushed and so was the writing. Ford also would have been better with a whole season instead, and some Wendy development would have been very nice. But you get what you get. At least it had an ending.
>>
>>86133290
True, the series was still going to disappoint us but it could've at least tried a more complex motivation.

How planned in advance was the plot? The twins had to be there from day 1, but other parts seemed kinda on-the-fly.

Although Bill wasn't going to be there for the very beginning, I think that by the time they actually started the show, he was actually supposed to be the main villain, but I think things with him were supposed to be a little less boring and straightforward. They were doing the messages from Bill in other materials pretty early and he was the "He" who Ford couldn't let find his journals from the first episode, so there was a lot of foreshadowing. But his plan should have been more complicated, maybe it was supposed to be, but there was no time. S1 had a lot of filler like Mabel's boy craziness so they didn't have much time in S2 for something too convoluted and by the time S2 started people already wanted to quit the show because it was so much hassle and stress.

I think the series probably started with Alex thinking of his summer with his sisters and Grandpa, probably started with ideas about that and a tourist trap, and supernatural stuff.

The Journals and Bill were probably a later addition than that, at first, Bill was just supposed to appear to Dipper in his dreams each episode, but only to Dipper, and was supposed to make fun of "jet fuel can't melt steel beams" conspiracy nuts. This ironically probably led to his popularity as a meme character, because conspiracy nut jokes are funny, and well, meme-y. But then he needed to kind of be shoved into the role of a typical kids' show villain, instead of the more Rick and Morty stuff in say the AMA, and some people didn't really think it worked. Probably one of a lot of cases where Alex and other people making the show wanted to do more R&M or Simpsons humor and were frustrated because it was a kids' show, that happens a lot.

I wish they had done more with the Zodiac and the Northwests, the Blind Eye, the Holy Mackerel and all of that, not incredibly complicated but a little less simple.

A flaw? Just the one? Flaw finding with that character isn't an issue. Because flaws, he has several. So many flaws that are hard to count. Because he is a flawed individual. You can easily count at the very least one significant flaw, which is not the only one, but the most notable. That's the flaw I'd choose to mention if I had to find a flaw. Which is what I need to do according to your challenge which was, and I quote, "find a flaw".

There is a conundrum here, How do you make a villain, that can be scary and beaten in a way that doesn't feel cheap or isn't a one and antagonist done?
The Beast worked because over the garden wall was a short series and each episode devoted just enough time to him to remind you he's there. But honestly I can't really think of any antagonist in cartoons anyway that has been beaten and not been able to maintain that fear factor. There are plenty that have been intimidating and could be beaten over and over again yet still remain intimidating, but I don't think the same can be said for scary villains.

We don't even know what toffee wanted or if he knew that the wand would still work
We don't know what our is doing, we know ludo is definitely amazing even tho we haven't seen him fight anyone yet (I mean amazing based on what he did not Amazing in power) he has at least stars power and starts power was dangerous enough to send her to earth.
Honestly I want ludo to win, why should ludo loose? He earned the wand while star was only given the wand I would guess there will be a fight and ludo will win even tho star will beat ludo at the end of the season, my guess is star beats ludo with raw magic power to the point of making it obvious puedo can't win and she still looks let's ludo keep the wand and tells him to use it to help the monsters making him finally transittion into the glorious leader he was meant to be after having to struggle to get there and learn that a leader is there to suffer for his people and not the other way around
But that's just me hoping for the absolute best

>Bill is evil
>Why?
>Long years of pent up frustration from living in a very rule bound society.
>What does he do that's evil
Forces his ideology onto people disregarding any concequences, believing that he knows what's really good for them.
>What's his motivation?
Gaining what he considers to be true freedom. Also escaping his current location which was going to collapse.
>And his end goal?
To create what he considers to be a perfect universe.

Not quite, but I see where you're coming from. In their first fight, if you can even call it that, she owns him. She just made him her bitch.
On the second one, however, things are much more even. This is when my argument of "potentially" comes in. By the time the second fight comes, he's had plenty of time to grow bitter at Dominator. His power is channeled through Hate, so the more he hates you, the stronger he´ll be when fighting you. And during their fight Hater gets knocked down several times, but each time someone says or does something that pisses him off even more and he goes back to fighting, more powerful than before. Hell, the moment all the villains in the galaxy admit she's the greatest he fucking loses it and manages to hurt her, knocking off her helmet. Sadly, the fight stops here due to the fact her having a vagina was enough for Hater to drop the fight. We can only speculate what would have happened if the battle had continued, but I believe he could have beaten her. This is what I mean by potentially. Hater has the capability to be stronger than Dominator, it's just that he barely reaches his full potential and when he does he finds a way to fuck it up. Except for their last fight, that was Hater cutting loose and proving who's boss.

Yeah, it was definitely refreshing to see an actual, bonafide evil overlord. How many of these guys have been beaten by scrappy teenagers with a love interest rooting for them?

Turns out, realistically, the 200 year old wizard with an eye for efficiency would fuckin' roll the opposition presented to him like any other day on the job.

His entire story was basic, yet well constructed and with an eye toward an interesting philosophical dilemma. If you really believed that you could turn back time and undo suffering, you have a non-ridiculous motive on an otherwise stylish and vaguely sympathetic character.

Plus, time powers and teleportation are so fucking cool.

I was going to say Bill was destined to be a shitty villain, but he really wasn't. They COULD have pulled it off. Fuck, Stan defeating him by being a better con man was a good idea. Ozai was never really a character, more like a symbol in Zuko and Azula's storylines. The overbearing father figure who motivated them with praise or shame. That was fine but he wasn't really fleshed out on his own in the series, though I've heard he is in the comics.

This is the most ironic post on this website, going by how Homestuck ended
>>
>>86162600
Homestuck had a great ending. It made total sense and went with the gnostic motif perfectly. Literally all there is that sucked in Dave turning gay, not a lot of character development, the fact that we don't know Rose any more (which the epilogue will likely fix), and the frog switch/uber bunny weapons plotholes which are the definition of fridge logic and don't hurt the story that much. Everything else about it was fantastic and brilliantly-done.

I mean, I guess if you didn't expect a meta ending for the most meta work of all time because you're a retard then I could see how you might be so disappointed.
>>
>>86154778
>He was a decent character

>>
>>86162822
It also sucked that Spades Slick was randomly killed off after Andrew personally intervened in the story to bring him back to life, apparently just so he'd...die still, just later. It sucked that Vriska was portrayed as a true hero who never did anything wrong and solved everyone's problems out of nowhere. It sucked there was a retcon. It sucked the ending didn't even explain its own falling action mythos that was building up for the past year. It was a disaster.
>>
>>86163074
>It sucked the ending didn't even explain its own falling action mythos that was building up for the past year.
I thought it did. What is left unexplained that bothers you?

>Vriska was portrayed as a true hero
I didn't get that sense at all. Her cuntiness was at its all-time high in her scenes right before Collide. The whole point of her character is that you can save the world and still be a douche at the same time. It's refreshing because you don't see that a lot.

>Spades Slick was randomly killed off after Andrew personally intervened in the story to bring him back to life, apparently just so he'd...die still, just later.
It was very convenient for the plot for him to come back so that Lord English could be in two places at once essentially, since Dave wasn't in the dream bubble fight and was supposed to beat Lord English based on his early pimp rap's foreshadowing. Sure, he could've just possessed DD instead, but there's always been a parallel between SS and LE so it has a stronger theme this way.

Also I thought that part was really funny and loved how absurd it was that the yellow yard claim was an absolute lie. The back-and-forth about if his eye was cybernetic or not was also hilarious.
>>
>>86163074
Oh wait I confused the SSes yea that's a fine point.
>>
>>86163329
>What is left unexplained that bothers you?
Gamzee's whereabouts are a mystery, we didn't see anything about the reconstruction of the troll race with the Matriorb and a new society, we didn't see Kurloz present Caliborn with the pirate coat he swiped after Vriska left the cave or how it became the Cairo Overcoat, and, most importantly of all, the four kids never just met up and chatted like four friends meeting each other in person for the first time, which was teased since the very start and constantly throughout the comic. We also don't even know what they do after they're freed from the Juju and defeat LE as a flash of light.

>The whole point of her character is that you can save the world and still be a douche at the same time.
Neither the characters she interacted with, nor the narrative of the story, reacted to her as if she was a douche. She in no way deserved to indirectly kill Lord English. That was Slick's kill, and you know it.

>he never actually lost
Actually, Him's final episode had him be utterly beaten up and humiliated by the PPGs, then dropped onto a void in their nightmare dimension.

But that was during the artstyle change seasons, which weren't that great anyway.
>>
>>86163488
>or how it became the Cairo Overcoat
I mean, he almost certainly alchemized it from the combined captcha codes of the pirate coat, his sarswapagus, and the god tier clock before it was broken. It would've been cool to see but I'd be surprised if it had anything besides exactly those three things.

Which planet was the fridge Gamzee was locked in on? Was it the planet that was mostly destroyed?

>We also don't even know what they do after they're freed from the Juju and defeat LE as a flash of light.
They hang out in Can Town. That scene is probably after Caliborn's Masterpiece because they're depicted as a couple of years older, if you were thinking that Caliborn's Masterpiece was after Can Town in Act 7.

>That was Slick's kill, and you know it.
Slick is even more of a murderous sociopath than Vriska. She's less of a bad person that he is.

I can see why the flash of light, the four kids meeting up, and the matriorb bother you. I can see your perspective a little better. I guess if I cared about Gamzee that might bug me too. I bet the meet up will be in the epilogue at least.
>>
>>86163752
>if you were thinking that Caliborn's Masterpiece was after Can Town in Act 7.
It has to be, Caliborn basically said it happened in the distant future, I'm pretty sure.

>Slick is even more of a murderous sociopath than Vriska. She's less of a bad person that he is.
Slick was a cutthroat mobster portrayed as nothing more than a cutthroat mobster. Vriska was a sociopathic mass murderer who underwent decent character development that was mysteriously completely negated and never touched up on again, but the narrative acted like she'd become a better person, and she became a Messiah archetype. Everyone trusted and obeyed her and nothing went wrong in this scenario at all. It was repulsive.

I shouldn't derail the thread anymore but swing by the next Homestuck thread that pops up eventually if you want to understand the general consensus on the ending.

Scratch was the best villain of the piece, though. English should have been amazing, but he didn't do anything but kill ghost clones we don't care about and when the story itself pointed out the heroes had no reason to care about him, it proceeded to never give them a good reason to care about him.

>Homestuck had a great ending. It made total sense and went with the gnostic motif
Oh jesus, sure, sure, it was just TOO DEEP for everyone, it's not that having a time skip and then retconning the time skip so we have a second time skip on top of the first one that's even less revealing and satisfying is bad writing, it's just META for the story to basically just fast forward to the end in the clumsiest way possible.

It was so fantastic how ambiguous LE's actual defeat was because the last page was some textless animation that made very few things clear, mostly that there was ANOTHER time skip of SOME sort that just lets us see a tiny glimpse that tells us nothing about how the characters have grown after their journey, just that Jake and Dirk are playing soccer and everyone is sitting on grass or walking on grass.

The ending was dogshit and going "but meta" doesn't excuse it.
>>
>>86164091
>it's not that having a time skip and then retconning the time skip so we have a second time skip on top of the first one that's even less revealing and satisfying is bad writing
It's not bad writing when it's a story about creation and John finding his autonomy. It's not clumsy to take something like retcons and introduce it as an in-universe power, making John the Retcon Heir, a nod to his favorite movie. It's deft.

>there was ANOTHER time skip of SOME sort that just lets us see a tiny glimpse that tells us nothing about how the characters have grown after their journey
Did you think you signed up for "Nepeta learns to manage her autism," "Karkat learns to chill out a little," or "Jake finds his mojo?" That was never part of Homestuck's structure. That was not a check that Hussie ever wrote to fans.

>It was so fantastic how ambiguous LE's actual defeat was
Yea that part was poorly executed. You proved me wrong there.
>>
>>86164256
>It's not bad writing when it's a story about creation and John finding his autonomy.
John finds his autonomy by stumbling into a deus ex machina and then following a bunch of instructions. What a totally coherent and intuitive way to bring that idea across. And ultimately that's the story's biggest flaw: it can't process its own ideas in a way that also makes for good entertainment. It's like Hussie didn't know how to Make A Statement and also How To Write An Entertaining And Coherent Series Of Events at the same time, the events keep contradicting the statement and muddles everything up.

> It's not clumsy to take something like retcons and introduce it as an in-universe power
Arguably it is the clumsiest way to do it when the execution of a retcon STILL feels like a cheap retcon. So basically it's just a retcon that the author is being totally open about by calling it a retcon in the story but hoping that by being so open we'll be tricked into thinking there's something deep about it. But no it was just a big roundabout way to circumvent the tricky issue of resolving character conflicts and overcoming the obstacles you yourself placed in the series.

> making John the Retcon Heir, a nod to his favorite movie. It's deft.
Oh shut up. Are you seriously impressed by a pun. Seriously, shut the fuck up.
