You all know what high place /co/ holds DnA's GotG in. You all know that the general opinion about Bendis' GotG is "it's shit". But how much of it have you really read?
Of course it's shit, but WHY is it shit? It's not just not following DnA's characterization. There is so much more shit to it.
Well, starting this week we're going to read ALL of post-Thanos Imperative Marvel Cosmic, starting with our guys Bendis and Humphries!
I'll post the schedule later, now brace yourself for some rage and memes.
I'm not good at official thread themes but I suppose it could sound something like
>[WAKE ME UP]
I CAN'T STOP THIS FEELING
>[CAN'T WAKE UP]
DEEP INSIDE OF ME
>[SAVE ME]
Previous thread:
>>86014131
Fucking space and shit man
And here we officially start.
>Earth. Cosmic is all about Earth, you know.
BRACE FOR HEAVY BENDIS SPEAK
I hate everything about this page.
Note that the first panel dialogue doesn't make any sense logically.
I mean, it's one thing if it was just Spartax, but we see that it's a treaty that involves not only the player we saw in that page, but they're agreeing on not having anyone ELSE touch Earth in theory.
Except they're not going to enforce this in the slightest. How does it make sense? Is it supposed to be a cunning plan by J'son?
Also probably the pages we've seen go before the Avengers Assemble arc and there's a timeskip, although Gamora here is already in Mass Effect armor and she isn't in AvAss
Did anyone like Guardian Tony?
>Christmas tree Groot
Thanks Steve
Man, poor Badoon really
>>86036381
>Peter and his dad left on good terms (even going on adventures together) but FUCK THOSE POTENTIAL stories, let's just go with generic father/son antagonism
>>86036488
Bendis was right in seeing potential in Peter's unexplored Spartax connection, but he went in the worst possible direction for that
It's a bit of bullshit that the moment Tony leaves the Earth's orbit he finds a Badoon spacecraft right in front of him 2bh
>>86036389
I like to imagine all of Bendis' characters with Solid Snake's voice because of how often they repeat questions to each other.
Rereading these early issues is funny because you could see Bendis still trying to attempt to give Drax some personality
In the dialogue here you have all of the "plot" for the first arc. Yes, it's nonsensical.
>>86036519
>what do you know about CQC, Tony?
Read this page for rage
>Who said Richard Rider isn't back?
>McNiven already needing a fill-inner by issue TWO
So the Guardians were already en route to Earth and simply intercepted the Badoon on the road?
What did they think they'd find on Earth seriously?
Get it, it's like a terrorist attack for topical references to our time's fears, as if an actual alien invasion wouldn't speak to that
>where did you learn to fight? on a farm?
Well say they raze the entire London area, hell even the British isles. Wouldn't that just be like signing a huge "WE BADOON DID THIS"?
>>86036583
not ashamed to admit i bought the first 3 arcs for the art, McNiven, Pichelli are just next level and absolutely wasted on this writing
General thoughts about the direction of the latest volume with Schiti, OP?
Man, the kid Annihilus and 4-eyed Supremor from Hickman's run.
>>86036623
Honestly? Slower than ever but Bendis now seems to have a direction to follow in his mind, so it's better than v3
Man, to think all this could've really gotten somewhere if the editors really cared.
>infinity STONES
>Gladiator being a warmonger
Just no.
Fuck off, Tony, you shitter.
He's only the magical protector of the fucking Omniverse.
>Blam! Murdered you!
Eugh
At least we're seeing that Peter is now OP because of the Element Gun doing element shit
Still unconvinced that he, Tony or Rocket can take on an entire spaceship
Good ol' destroyer
This page gave me cancer
Is the Thames in that place even that wide? I wouldn't think so
You haven't really governed for an extensive period of time before, Freyia/Frigga
And here we see the epic setup job working.
Now you may ask, why did J'son go through all that trouble to capture the Guardians and have a chat with Peter if really no one would care if the Guardians were captured and disbanded in the first place?
The galaxy may never know.
>>86036709
>Blam! Murdered you!
That sounds like something Rocket would say, the problem is that Bendis made it a catch phrase
Wait, so he didn't even give clear orders to take Peter alive?
>>86036793
As a catchphrase it sounds sort of vicious, when I guess the intent was to make it "quippy"
>roller skates
Okay, I chuckled.
Only Gamora and Rocket are the only one of their kind, and not even in the same sense.
>the Thanos - Gamora connection is universally reknown
Stop this pls
Also lost opportunity to have the Badoon have peculiar, non-ME armor that woould be designed for lizardkind
>all this wasted art
COSMO MENTIONED
das gay yo
Did anyone make a Goku on Namek joke at these pages?
And is Gamora's sword here supposed to be the Godslayer?
The art doesn't really convey the idea of the group making a passage through a host of enemies here
I'm waiting for us to get to ANAD. I stopped reading Marvel then and want to see how awful things got.
I really disliked this whole "Peter becomes a Spartax celebrity by making televised speech"
It takes me out of the supposed space setting so fucking much
>>86036337
OP, you're a goddamn monster.
>>86036916
Well, Skeetee's art got better, the enemies got laughably bad but the story recovered a sense of direction and also nice character moments
Make of that what you will
To the second trade!
I could post the first volume's cover gallery art, thinking of doing it after the story's over though
>>86036920
Somebody had to do it
It's a bit telling that you can summarize the first three issues' plot in six lines
Full Pichelli from now on
Bye bye McNiven, thanks for nothing
>I don't know what a phone is
Ebin
I get what the point of the scene here was, but I could honestly do without it
>skinny Gamora
NO
It's not like we saw this very same sequence three issues ago
>>86036983
I always liked Jeph Loeb's Hulk recap pages that had like 4 panels catching you up. It's a catch up, not a summary
Also why would Spartax "royals" go to a shady space bar
Did you know that Gamora is Thanos' adopted daughter? You wouldn't know from these pages
>the Accuser
Accuser is an actual military rank in the Kree army that comes with distinct armor and Kree origin, who is this fag?
>>86037041
Yep, but in this case they really tell the whole story.
>rigellian nuthole
>looks like a giant bull
What happened to Rigel and tiny yellow men, mate
Playing possum doesn't work so well in real life
Ah, the old Bendis trope where a character angrily snaps and keeps repeating the same line while hitting an opponent/building up rage
When you notice it, you'll realize he does this a lot
Who knew a psp could work like that
NOTE: he doesn't do anything of the sort with the Guardians
>Gamora prepared to go out like that
huehuehuehue
We Angela now
AKA "Bendis pretends Age of Ultron was relevant by referencing it as much as possible in his books"
>that absolute contempt
A true lady.
Fuck off already with le spartax guards meme
Mantis is cute! CUTE!
but also a bit too offmodel for my tastes
and she coul've simply said she's a precog here
TIME IS BROKEN was basically Bendis' THE WHITE EVENT for a while
It tried to imply in Battle of the Atom that it was the reason why the ANXM couldn't go back but then forgot about it entirely
>platoon of badoon
What the hell does "anything" mean in this context
Does space debris count then?
Oh have we talked about how the "Guardians of the Galaxy" title suddenly became LITERAL and all of the different Empires that canonically were in different, distant galaxies now all talk about "the galaxy", singular?
Yep, let's assume she's aggressive and attack her forefront
>that look of lesbian warrior lust
>>86036453
They never did explain why he suddenly had those lights inside of him, did they.
Add it to the pile of Bendis' plotlines that remain unresolved.
I want you to realize that Bendis thought a great idea to give Thanos a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MOTIVATION for attacking the Earth in Infinity that the one that was buil up in a specific miniseries and canonically explained through the event.
Think about that.
>>86037311
That wasn't a plotline in the slightest, it was just McNiven redesigning everyone for the sake of it before fucking off to nowhere after 3 1/2 issues.
We can safely say that Pick Ellie's Angela is a total babe and a hottie
>>86037328
I swear I remember him saying that there was a reason for them around the time these first few issues came out.
>Gaiman (lol)
>Pichelli
>Coipel
Marvel's way to say BUY THIS FUCKING ISSUE
>I am the Watcher and this will be the last time I'll be relevant
Also
>The Moon. Our Moon.
>>86037343
Really?
I canceled those early interviews from my mind considered he didn't deliver on anything
Friendly reminder that Thanos speaks as it's public knowledge that the post-AoU time riff had to do with the Earth when Bendis himself operates as barely anyone knows or understood what happened
How is Peter breathing anyways?
The same Gamora that was taken down by the Spartoi and a random guy?
I like that she's depicted as an actual skilled fighter here
Brutal.
>>86036337
You can't be doing this, OP
W-what's impossible
>>86037427
I can and I will.
ONE PUNCH!
oops nevermind
>the expression in the last panel
Unffff
So what the hell happened with Thanos?
Uatu pretending to only watch but actually interfering at least is 100% in character
No, really, here it seems like Peter got away from Thanos by arranging something, but this goes nowhere.
It fucking isn't, Rocket, where did this idea come from? It's repeated at least three times and it seems like it's why they came together but this isn't the MCU
Damn good question.
It's a funny joke by itself, but this epic reference context completely spoils the mood
>And we're selfish cunts who only understand doing things out of personal gain -also we have apartheid for the males so my lesbian girlfriend became a trap
Did you know that if you really focus on these pages you can hear the sound of Neil Gaiman counting money?
Peter has a point.
I wish Angela kept her "foreigner around all of this shit" shtick for longer
>>86036441
No, it was shit, there was no point, he didn’t do anything and then he left.
Why is he asking Tony? What does he know in this context?
Also Heaven is a real thing and we know of that, it doesn't overlap with Heven
This here is supposed to be leftover tension for Peter not having told them what happened in the cancerverse
TELL ME ABOUT IRON MAN! WHY DOES HE WEAR THE ARMOR?
>>86037597
What's worse is that we had Tony in space for what we see is like maybe two weeks? And then with Infinity he's back home. While Gillen had to work out a non-decompressed storyline that had Iron man off Earth for monhts
Just to hammer down the point that Thanos is really coming to Earth in Infinity to destroy it because of spacetime fuckery.
Which, you know, directly contradicts everything in the actual event.
Bravo Bendis.
I feel like this entire run is like a really bad sailboat.
It starts off in one direction, stops dead in the water several issues in until the winds from an event or a relaunch propel in a direction somewhere off from it's final unknown destination.
Also, how long until the first X-men crossover?
This is the letter page to issue #7 (so written even before) and Bendis had outlined the plot up to issue #20, as you can read.
If not for lack of planning, why is it so awful?
>>86037652
They explained that he was using a remote controlled suit to do stuff on earth, but it was mostly left unexplained.
>>86037672
I'll need to fill this thread with everything up to that, then go out to do some chores and make a new thread in the afternoon for the Trial of Jean Grey.
Bendis just wasted three years with this comuc.
Delicious Francavilla art
>>86037699
I know, but that was just New Avengers laziness. In Gillen's run he was out there for in-universe months it was I was trying to say
>your father your father your father your father your father
Kill me.
>Who is Richard Rider: the page
Not to mention that Peter is acting like a massive cunt here
Let's not even try to make sense of the fact that Bendis here implies and Humphries OUTRIGHT STATES in Memelord's book that Peter and Thanos had an actual truce after they got out of cancerverse and something shady happened -but in the mere months between The Thanos Imperative and Infinity, Thanos built up the Cull Obsidian and a massive army of pirates and mercenaries
>>86037744
Man, Bendis sucks at making space terms. He totally aired out all the tension in that scene with the last panel.
Bendis seems to have a liking for Abigail Brand, he doesn't even mischaracterize her much
>>86037744
I don't understand why they insisted on keeping it a secret. Because he doesn't want to face what happened? Like Bendis keeps implying that Thanos, Peter and Drax made some kind of pact to never speak of what happened to anyone but there's no reason for that when the whole thing amounts to "turns out Death didn't stick around so the cancerverse didn't collapse. Rich sacrificed himself to open a portal back to our universe unfortunately Thanos followed us through"
What about that needs to be secretive?
>Humpries fucked cosmic marvel
>He is now making cosmic DC fun again
How ? Why?
>>86037777
He got scolded when he wrote her out of character in his script for Secret Invasion, so I guess he took it to heart.
>>86037786
I talked about that in the next post, but I think the editorial go-to non-explanation was about some sort of pact until Bendis came up with something in the Original Sin arc that actually cleared that idea off the table entirely
>>86037793
>>He is now making cosmic DC fun again
>at the cost of most of the Red Lanterns' previous characterization
>>86037786
Because Bendis' team books thrive on infighting.
>>86037809
Is not like Soule red lantern was good...
>>86037823
But it was. Way better than Green Lanterns is, don't kid yourself.
Why couldn't Drax be stealthy? The line is funny but he reall can be when he wants.
>>86037793
Probably meme magic. Also see >>86037809
Unless you didn't like Soule's RL, which I did.
>>86037802
I forgot about that.
Well it's not like "space Maria Hill but brashier and hypercompetent" is that difficult to fuck up
>>86037838
>>86037809
Well I never read red lantern book, in fact I am using rebirth as my jumping point for DC since I hate marvel now.
>>86037803
Why does Gamora have a bigger murder boner for Thanos than fucking Drax?
Seriously, he might as well be a house plant here.
>>86036623
You should be ashamed to spend your money on this garbage. You really should.
>>86037786
Oh, don't forget that the point of it all is the DRAMAH caused by releasing Thanos in the universe again. Because Thanos is now this relentless, super evil cosmic tyrant that will only do evil things and cosmic genocides more than anyone else in the universe.
So yes, it's for drama.
>>86037857
But marvel now hasn't started yet.
>>86037857
>Well I never read red lantern bookIf you're really patient I'll probably storytime all of that in a couple of months or so
>>86037882
No, i am talking about marvel now, in the current space and time, no the marvel now that will happen inoctober
>>86037893
Anon, I think you're confused. The first marvel now ended with Secret Wars. We're no longer in that marvel now and the new marvel now hasn't started yet. So it's currently not now.
>current GotG is movie team with shit characterisations and stories
>Nova fandom having flamewars over Richard "I'm a door & apparently not so dead" Rider and Sam "suffering marvel Hal Jordan" Alexander
>Other characters? Who? There's Thanos I guess and who else was in the movie?
>lol powerful beings are too powerful let's BTFO them to show how SERIOUS the crisis is.
>F4? They're not in MCU so fuck em
Being a marvel cosmic fan is suffering
>Is that his catchphrase
>Well, it has been for the last few weeks, but it's weird, it's like he made it up on the spot all of a sudden
>>86037863
Because with Gamora it causes drama. Seriously, what is Drax's character here?
>>86037922
Don't forget the Chitauri!
>>86037916
I hate current state of marvel, is that clear ?
>>86037922
I dunno, we just got all those Starlin books so that was nice. Cosmic has never been a consistent stream of books. It's usually more of a period of cosmic renaissance once a decade or so. Hopefully once Bendis finishes his run, someone more competent will take the reigns.
But like, where the fuck is the Quasar book? They even introduced a new Quasar and then proceeded to do jack shit with her.
>blast the guys and leave the woman alone
Would it be so difficult?
What is Peter even babbling about?
>>86037961
Sure, but I don't see what that has to do with marvel now.
>>86037962
She was last seen in Spencer falcap discussing the inhuman who can see the future, but she was inside a ball, testing her powers.
>>86037916
>The first marvel now ended with Secret Wars
Nah, Marvel Now ended with the books launched during Infinity. Then we had All-New Marvel Now and Avengers Now.
>>86037987
Yeah, but I always kinda considered those sub-NOWs. Like NOW 1.1 and NOW 1.2.
>>86037962
The new Quasar was entirely Spencer's doing in a homage to Gruenwald for the Cap anniversary. So she's now only in Spencer's Cap books. I doubt we'll see her anywhere else before the Cap/Thunderbolts crossover happens
>>86038001
I was being facetious considering how stupid the relaunches' names were
>>86038006
Considering his Cap run is this big Gruenwald love letter, I'm surprised he hasn't worked in a Squadron Supreme crossover somewhere.
I want Bendis to write the inhumans so he can ruin it too.
>>86038021
I really would like to see the Squadron Supreme to do relevant things. It's like they destoyed Atlantis (who didn't at some point) and then nothing.
My idea is that as with Weirdworld they were mandated to appear a lot at first and seeing the sales they're now just low-tier Avengers that will disappear the moment Robinson ends his run with the alien conspiracy plot
!!!!!!!!
>puffy flakrans
wut
also this Thanos shit is unbearable
>>86037962
Wendell is too good for the marvel universe and who gives a fuck about that bitch, she ain't phyla.
Honestly I can't give a shit about any of these legacy characters when marvel keeps on relaunching books. Like wow this character is having a good character arc but whoops!! interrupted by an event and inevitable relaunch with new creative team!
Angela looks a bit derpy here
>>86038068
That seem to be the luck that Carol has.
The first arc was fine, then CW2 after that she get another relaunch with different creative team.
It did help that after issue 2 she never was able to pass the 30k in sales.
>>86038068
>Like wow this character is having a good character arc but whoops!! interrupted by an event and inevitable relaunch with new creative team!
I wanted to agree with you but I can't recall any example for the last three years of the specific point you're trying to make, except maybe RemenderCap.
Oh, and now Carol.
Just imagine how bad this would be if not for Francavilla's art. Think of that.
I know it's his palette, but the blue highlights would've worked better in the outer space panels instead of the inner scenes
But you know the Avengers are off in space, Brand.
What the fuck?
Raccoon bathrooms?
Good ol' Carol.
>Brand, I can't see shit with all this red, fucking Francavilla
>Thanos' daughter
I mean, we had gone like 10 pages without hearing that
And are Gamora's eye highlights now green on green?
I don't even want to start trying to reconcile the timeline between the Peak getting destroyed by the Apocalypse Twins in Uncanny Avengers and the Peak getting destroyed here
Prepare for a long of double-spread pages and Maguire art botched by shoddy coloring
And Gamora and Angela being totally not lesbians here
>>86036588
>Defenders and Power Pack
Did they just teleport there? Sure Moord should have some sort of telemetry system to prevent unwanted visitors
>>86038298
>implying the Power pack couldn't fuck the Badoon up AND call their Kymellian allies for support
>>86036675
>Shitting on Captain Britain
Oh, this whole "Badoon are now super space slavers and slavery is bad hmmm" thing at least will have a resolution.
>>86038328
>posting images during a storytime
Rude, dude.
*unsheathes katana*
*teleports behind you*
>>86038311
Wait, the Avengers didn't bother telling anyone that Thanos was trapped in amber?
Technically there should be the whole "nothing for nothing" thing angels have going on, you know, since honor or valor isn't a thing
>>86037734
>>86037744
Why is Gamora assuming that Peter let Thanos live on purpose?
>>86038389
As stupid as it sounds, they didn't because Tony said he'd dispose of it even if I can't recall how so no one knew the Illuminati had him
>>86037765
>Thanos built up the Cull Obsidian
And then Hickman's run claims that the Cull Obsidian had been around for years, never explaining why we'd never heard of them before that.
>le Maguire face
Ponsor didn't do a great job here.
>>86038422
He won't tell her and it's assumed SOMETHING shady happened. Also, the point being made here is he "let" him live, not that he caused it on purpose.
>>86037217
>It's a 'spartax royal guards bother the GotG' episode
>>86038436
Oh, right.
At least we got Illuminating Comics' edit out of that, shitting on the edgy OC
Look at how super-lizardy this guy is!
Nevermind that
1. Heven was cut off Yggdrasil so it was cast in a dimension that didn't communicate with normal 616 plane
2. The Badoon had the right to enslave people so she wouldn't free them unless she'd be going against she used to stand up for
>>86038437
>>86038459
Whatever happened to Gamora's Godslayer sword?
>the Eternals
If only.
>>86038524
>1. Heven was cut off Yggdrasil so it was cast in a dimension that didn't communicate with normal 616 plane
To be fair, that wouldn't be revealed for another couple of months, Bendis had no way of knowing that
Based Badoon mook
>>86037240
>>86037317
I still don't get why Wolverine's escapades caused more damage to the timestream than anything Kang has ever done.
>>86038528
Uh... Bendis?
>>86038548
>If Thanos was on Earth we'd know
Goddamnit Tony, we know you have their phone number
I will now go back and post the variant covers art included in the first trade. Story for this thread is over, meet you in a few hours.
>>86038541
Fair point.
>>86037641
There have been at least 2 "Big Guy!" in Avengers Assemble, and several "For you!". Is Bendis a memer?
>generic Manara girl
>>86038556
To be honest the point made was something like "straw breaking the camel's back", also DOOMlocks were involved I think
>>86038569
Except the friendly Tony we saw here was actually super shady and busy avoiding the incursions with the Illuminati the whole time, so yeah, no offense Peter, but Thanos stays with us :^)
>>86038599
Kind of weird how Immortus didn't seem to give a fuck about the "Time is broken" thing but was super worrid about the Apocalypse Twins.
Then again, we all saw what Bendis thinks of Kang and Immortus in that dumb Avengers arc.
>>86038583
I tried not to point those out but I definitely noticed and giggled by myself
Bendis sure is a memer but I don't know if he's into Baneposting
>>86038569
At least the Ultimates told other people about Thanos being in their dungeon.
>>86038627
Nathaniel has good taste, he didn't want to get involved with ANXM and Wolverine shit
Also "that dumb Avengers arc" was supposed to be this whole buildup to Age of Ultron if Bendis was still on Avengers and AoU forced everything to crossover
What a fucking failure
>>86036693
Whatever happened to the element gun?
>that fucking Hillary meme
Memepool was a mistake.
>>86036628
>>86036642
It still baffles me that anyone would ever be willing to sit at the same table as Annihilus. The Kree and the Skrulls should loathe him.
It was even worse in Infinity, where Ronan and the Super-Skrull teamed up with Annihilus with no inidation of animosity over the whole genocide thing whatsoever.
>>86038685
He still has it, it just looks like the movie gun now because synergy.
>like 15 variant covers for #1, many being incentive or chain-locked
Fucking hell
>>86038685
What do you mean? The element gun was retconned to have been Spartoi in origin and locked to royal family's DNA so it's Peter's "legacy" now. Its powers are still the classic ones. Read the 0.1 in the previous archived thread linked in the OP.
Aaaaand done.
Come to /co/ later today for the next thread and the trial of Jean Grey, where the real pain starts! Thanks for reading, keep the thread bumped.
>>86038702
Well, *technically* this isn't the same Annihilus, and Hickman used the Galactic Council because it was established here before. But yep, it's stupid. Also Infinity's ending with Emperor Kl'Rt and Annihilus now having a foothold in the positive universe were literally never referenced again.
>>86036754
How do the spartax have the authority to make arrests on earth when Freya told them to fuck off?
>>86038763
Thank you
>>86036337
why, OP? Why must you torment us?
>>86037570
All I can see is some Pichelli art that makes me rock hard. Look at them poses. unf.
>>86038491
>deal with your people
the problem with this page is that there's so many aliens that look 100% human. The stupid Badoon (RIP) could have meant Asgard, Heven, Spartax, the Eternals, pink Kree, or Random Humanlike Alien Race #400. Who did he mean? we'll never know. Which is too bad, because that's a great secret which could make a fun plot.
>>86038548
All that time Gamora spent bitching about Thanos, and she didn't even bother checking up on his status on earth before she decided to come back and save her friends from a boring storyline?
>>86038569
Also, where's Tony?
>>86040280
>Also, where's Tony?
He rejoined the Avengers after Infinity.
>>86036470
Nobody likes that look. Nobody. Ever. It is crap.
>>86036337
DUDE COSMIC AVENGERS LMAO
Die, Bendis. Just die.
>>86036754
>We have authority here, despite what you saw a couple pages ago!
Can't even keep continuity within the same fucking issue, huh?
>>86042158
Makes sense to me, J'Son and the Spartoi are lying. They don't give a fuck.
>>86037474
Gamora you can't fucking smell anything through a god damn spacesuit.
>>86037529
>knows what a trademark is
>doesn't know what a phone is
As long as the jokes ignore everything else, y'know.
>>86036544
>CQC?
>>86036675
Not Tony's fault he is written by Bendis. Ths same guy who considers hulk a "myth"
>>86037271
Im kinda ok with this. The galaxy is a huge place irl, having all these guys in one area makes sense + also gives room to make up and explore some other races in other galaxies.
>>86037871
I don't think he'll make that mistake again.
>>86036675
>Captain Britan defends the entire fucking multi-verse
>"Oh he's shit."
Fuck you Bendis
>>86036681
>>86036709
Was Bendis trying to make "Blam! Murdered you!" Rocket's catch phrase, or was he just so fucking lazy that he copied dialogue?
>>86037418
Wtf why couldn't Pete just wear that? Its not as good as the DnA costume, but its 10000000000x better than the movie costume and the McNiven re-design
