Creators that hate their fanbase.
>>
They kinda deserve it
>>
>>86005727
Not really, they're no different than any other overzealous fan bases,
>>
>>86005761
That doesn't change the fact that they deserve it.
>>
>>86005678
Vazquez pissed away all his talent
Feels bad man
>>
>>86005761
>they're no different than any other overzealous fan bases
Yes. Yes they are.
>>
One time, back in, say, 2002, I IM'd Jhonen Vasquez through AIM, back when everybody had one of those.

He blocked me.
>>
>>86005678
I really like how Vasquez waited for Zim's awful fanbase to die out before doing a continuation.
>>
>>86005967
Proto-Kamiya
>>
>>86005678
Are you one of those fans? How does it feel to be hated?
>>
>>86005678
Marvel comics
>>
>>86005761
>they're no different than any other overzealous fan bases,

Overzealous fan bases deserve concentration camps.
>>
Steven Universe. I know nothing about the show, but from what I've seen, the relationship between the creators and the fans is basically the creators telling the fans to take a chillpill.
>>
>>86007211
Nah, the crewniverse (Yes that's what they're actually called) say they appreciate fans pretty often
>>
Homestuck. There, I said it.
>>
>>86005678
Can you really blame him? Im sure alot of them are legit crazies and weridos who want to cum in his ass. If your respectful to him and act like a fucking person im sure hes atleast somewhat nice.
>>
>>86005978
just asking, how terrible this fanbase is? I heard it is pretty bad, but to what extent?
>>
>>86005761
that's exactly why they deserve it.
>>
>>86007382
just a bunch of meme spouters and "lol im so CRAZY!!!" types
>>
>>86007449
thanks.
>>
>>86005678
Marvel
>>
>>86007295
As with most fanbases, there are the good fans and the vocal minority. Unfortunately for Steven Universe, the vocal minority also happens to be the tumblrina regressive left.
>>
>>86007310
The litmus test for Homestuck fans is asking them how they feel about Andrew. If they aren't passive aggressive in some way toward him they aren't worth your time.
>>
>>86005678
Alex Hirch
>>
>>86007310
Anyone with taste dislikes that fandom. Awful
>>
>>86007534
Yeah but Hussie likely perceives has fans as WHITE-MALE CIS-PRIVILEGED SHITLORDS who are WAY PROBLEMATIC since he had a breakdown and went full leftarded sjw at some point associating himself with people like Zoe Quinn and his New England sjw-circlejerk buddies.

>>

>>
>>86005967
Boo fuckin hoo.
>>
>>86007529
I don't think they are the minority tho. The whole fanbase of this kind of thing is shitty.
And that's not surprising because every person over 18 enjoying this can't be that good of a person.
>>
>>86007529
>>86009439
The only regressives are degenerate conservative scum like you.
>>
>>86005678
Anime. But i even when west anime fans are autists i think japanese otakus are much worse.
>>
>>86009507

Not everybody is Miyazaki.

In fact, Miyazaki is the only one who is Miyazaki.
>>
>>86009466
>not wanting to share cultures with outsiders is totally progressive
And that's just one example of how you hypocritical fucks aren't the future.
>>
>>86007529
You mean the creators?
>>
>>86005678
Vasquez is literally the Maynard James Keenan of cartoons.
>>
>>86009691
But anon, i totally disagree with SJW retards on that. Im liberal, but it doesnt mean im a man hating femenist either.
>>
>>86005929

>>
>>86009466
Yeah I'm sure of it, after all I'm not watching a kid cartoon about sexuality acceptance in my twenties.
>>
>>86009828
Stfu you scum sucking prudish judgemental fuck. No one is obligated to "act their age" as stated by society ridged and arcahic laws.
>>
>>86009507
not just otakus, many of anime fans are bad in general. Their shippers are mobs. I heard some of the fans burnt their manga collection just for the sake of their ships sank.
>>
>>86009849
Yea they are.
>>
>>86009890
No they arent. Said "rules" are outdated and followed only by brainless corperate slaves and degenerate goat fucking rednecks like you. Suck cow cock you fucking pile of shit!

>>
>>86009922
Whatever you say, fatass.
>>
>>86009967
Theyve gotten us into a society full of pain that survives on the sufferring of its inhabitants. This ideal that because an idea is old it must be good is only used by unimaginative retards that dont deserve to pass along their genes!

Corporations made 99% of the shit you own and you couldn't throw a punch, let alone break someone's neck.
>>
>creates garbage that could only attract edgy idiots
>gets offended that it attracts edgy idiots
This is why I will never be able to take Vasquez seriously. I've read and enjoyed my share of edgy shit as a teen, but JTHM was too much even for me.
Squee is Vasquez' only good work, by the way
>>
>>86010137

>>

>>

>>
>>86010304
>get a job
Why do you think i hate corperate culture so much? I want a job, hell i think communism could never work. Its just modern capitlisim is flawed, and i lose it when people are so loyal and patriotic that we cant even complain about somethinngs. I dont hate all corporations either, i just feel like adults can still like kids stuff while still being adults.
>>
>>86009852
But atleast one thing about i found enjoyment out of those otakus are shitstorms.
>>
>>86005967

I e-mailed him about an apparent plot inconsistency in "I feel sick", He told me "I laugh at continuity; but today I laugh at you!" Apparently I'd gotten it wrong.

So he seemed to respond to total randos back when the fanbase was the sort of people who stick safety pins into bits of their anatomy and read Lovecraft stories at the 24-hour coffee shop.

I can only assume the sheer volume got fatiguing.

Weisman does a bit. But it's more his own fault since he insists on replying to everyone who tweets to him, and he gets sick of every other reply either being that he won't give out spoilers or that it's not up to him whether or not Young Justice comes back.
>>
>>86009548

Basically they're the same sort of people that Leto Joker was designed to try and appeal to. IE, Hot Topic misfits and "rebels".
>>

here was a time when popular writers could attend Comic-Con and meet fans without getting mobbed. That was starting to change by 1985, when Watchmen author Alan Moore attended his first and only San Diego Comic-Con.
Alan Moore does not go to conventions anymore. He came to Comic-Con one year that I wasn’t there, and [my husband] Don got to talk to him. And Moore said, “I can’t even go to the restroom.”

Man I really wish this and other episodes were longer but I suppose they'll run out of things to talk about. I don't mind the host but man it'd be dope if they did more episodes along the lines of having an entire cast on an episode something like that they did at SDCC but just letting them go

It's an edgy cartoon made specifically for the Hot Topic crowd, with nearly everything associated with the series actually sold in Hot Topic. What the fuck kind of fans were they expecting to attract?

Pic related is Matt Wilson. He is one of the few legitimate examples of a creator who hates his fans. He abruptly ended his only real success and scrubbed the net of many of its ancillary materials, such as the wiki. And what's crazy is that he occasionally brings the characters back for special events without acknowledging that they used to be in anything.

>>86005678
And then it got brought back anyway.

But hey, at least Jhonen actually names the show in question. Matt vaguely alludes to it while saying it "stresses him out."

http://cartoon-drive-thru.tumblr.com/post/69699330291/10-years-ago-it-was-my-first-real-start-in

Seriously, he doesn't name Bonus Stage and he's really vague about why it ended, as though someone got shot because of him.

I saw Jhonen Vasquez at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence, and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I think people believe they could influence the creators because they can talk to them on twitter. They just try being as annoying and pushing as possible and think it would somehow make creators do what they want.
There should be some guy who does the exact opposite, like making a pairing the annoying and big part of the fanbase doesn't like canon or some shit just to fuck with aggressive shitposters.

Is Homestuck worth reading? (As a wannabe creative type)

I was kind of drawn to it at first, it ticks a lot of little boxes I like, but I'm not a fan of the trolls aesthetically and the fact that they're a big deal (and the two words I'd probably use to describe Homestuck as a whole based on second hand inferences are "Long" and "Clusterfuck") makes me wonder if it'd just be a painful slog.

We always have this thread and it's always complaining about the same autistic extremes in the same fanbase. Sonic, Homestuck, Zim, MLP, whatever.

I've got a question, what has the BEST fanbase? Because if there's a worst there's got to be a best, right? Or at least a least worst!

Zero Escape seems to be a good one.

The keys for a work to get a good fanbase are substance over style, not appealing to autists and/or teenagers, not pandering overtly to any kind of SJW cause and not containing shipping/waifu bait.

read it, if you don't like it then stop. I really liked it and thought it was pretty funny and stuff, but I only got partways through act 5 before I ran out of drugs and stopped, and I really love dark tower type multi-dimension recursion bullshit (it's not as good as dark tower obviously, they just hit a few of the same buttons).

i should really start up again but I'm having internet issues, wish there was a torrent or something
>>
>>86019841
I'll propose Dwarf Fortress.
The UI, or lack thereof, tends to keep casuals out, and it's easy to mod if you care to.
There is the caveat that you pretty much have to be on the autism spectrum to figure out how to play it, but players are usually pretty chill.
>>
>>86019841
The best fanbase is that which doesn't resemble a fanbase at all.

There's no singular identity, there's no 'them, those guys'.

Once it all starts to coalesce into something needing a label, everything goes to shit.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2011-07-05/ghibli-miyazaki-eva-anno-visit-quake-area-draw-sketches

>Both Miyazaki and Anno drew sketches of Totoro and other popular Ghibli characters. Suzuki noted that there were too many fans in line for Miyazaki give autographs by himself, so Miyazaki asked Anno to sign autographs underneath Miyazaki's Totoro sketches. Anno playfully noted that he had nothing to do with Totoro, but obliged Miyazaki's request.

It's like getting a rare picture of Sean Connery signed by Roger Moore.

I'd the say the DF fanbase is pretty mid tier. Bay12 is decentish is far as an online forum goes, but you can still find a fair bit of 'tism there and in other places. I've seen plenty of "epic df stories" that were embellishments at best and falsehoods at worst.
>>86020078
I'd say Zero Escape fanbase is decent because it is small and somewhat old. 999 is 7 years, VLR is 4, and ZTD is about 2 months old but discussion of it is basically dead.

I have a 10 year old sister. I help with her studies (picking her up from school, talking to her classmates about group work, etc). It's definitely not a show for 8-10 year olds. At that age, kids try to seem cool and be grown-up. MLP is not something they will watch.

I haven't watched the movie, but now I'm really curious and interested. I'm happy that he has that kind of view regarding the war.

I live in the Philippines, and we were conquered here by the Japanese for a short while during WWII. Like any war, there were atrocities done.

People here don't really have bad blood with them in general. People are sane enough to understand that the war was not the entire country's or this current generation's fault.

But I've learned that WWII isn't really talked about much over there. I was also told not to mention stuff like that to them when I was touring Japanese students. I find that really insulting instead. I know it's a sensitive topic and awkward to talk about, but it was weird that we got warned ahead.

It's better to acknowledge the past to learn from them. I hope it's what Miyazaki portrayed.

>it's more Sesame Street tier
Sesame Street is a normie institution because multiple generations grew up with the program. It's something that adults can look back on fondly as their kids learn the same meaningful lessons they did.

FiM is a hi-fructose show with the primary purpose of increasing consumer demand for a set of Hasbro toys. Adult fans usually watch this show to feel a sense of belonging with others while absorbing kindergarten-tier schmaltz with inconsistent messages paraded as educational, with the occasional pop-culture bone thrown in for caretakers who end up having to be in the same room as the little kids watching it. It will never be accepted by the status quo as something adults should watch.

>>
>>86022819
I have nothing against having pretty faces and being a good housewife though. I don't think those are bad things. But I get what you mean, in terms of Japanese society context, I think.

From what I remember, a friend's daughter was taken to summer camp, and all she wanted to do was stay inside her room and read pre-teen comics and magazines. She was disinterested on exploring the place or being outside. So he molded Chihiro to be something that would hopefully inspire kids to explore and do things.
>>
>>86022825

> IZ actually pull this type of humor off without being cringey like so many imitators to come afterwards.

As someone who adored it when it came out as a kid, rewatching episodes actually is somewhat cringy.

I think SU gets more hate than deserved because of both popularity and appeal to Tumblr. Keyword being "deserved"; I don't think anyone denies there's stuff to criticize it for.

Well no, you see, it supposed to be that. But as the bronie thing came into existence producers started to flirt with them (all the references and fannon insertions and shit). Thus they virtually raised the audience age and narrowed the demographic. If the bronies existed without this type of acknowledgement they would be just another sad escapists who transport their reality into a childrens cartoon and your argument would be valid. but this relationship is interactive. there is a dialog between the producers and bronies. Bronies are still often sad escapists, but you cant full blame it on them since their condition is actively nurtured and maintained. As a result the criticisms they raise aren't entirely unfounded.

Oh, no, I didn't mean being a housewife was a bad thing, or having a pretty face was a bad thing. You can still be a housewife and have plenty going on in your brain, definitely the same with a pretty face.
>But I get what you mean, in terms of Japanese society context, I think.
That's what I meant; like how a lot of FoTM anime depict their girls as everything the typical NEET wants in a woman:
>no standards
>good at cooking, cleaning, everything a typical housewife does
>absolutely submissive; never stands up for themselves
>'pure'
It's why you tend to see the anime community (/a/ included, especially /a/) in uproar, whenever a favored character makes a slight hiccup, or a mistake. Remember when some idol girl in Love-Live (i think honoka) was revealed as "unpure", and the community had a gigantic fucking shitstorm over it?

>jap men expect way too much out of real women because they're too lost in their waifu to realize it's okay for a person to have flaws
Honestly this doesn't bother me so much because it lowers the investment in real relationships.

But waifus should only really be a transitional step away from thirsty betahood, they shouldn't outright supplant women as an object of idealization. Really, they're just best for meeting sexual desire, human desire is best left to finding platonic relationships.

(The ideal end situation essentially correcting what /r9k/ would call the sexual market imbalance by equalizing scarcity for both sexes by removing the "white knight" sort of guys by making them realize they don't need sex - it's just sort of nice, and in turn generally giving a more amicable relationship between sexes. This also has some advantages for women despite lowering their value because it means less creepy desperate guys.)

It's a shame so many people are caught up in the superficial womanhood part of the whole thing, so you've just got shit like strike witches (gotta have girlz girlz girlz) instead of say something about proper airplanes flown by proper pilots instead of panty-shot machines because there's constant fanservice instead of a more structured divide between fap material and entertainment.

>jap men expect way too much out of real women because they're too lost in their waifu to realize it's okay for a person to have flaws

Both are at fault. Otome is bigger than ever in Japan. And a lot of women have given up men for their husbandos. Men get a lot of shit but media directed to women to fulfill self-insert fantasies is as plentiful.

>Honestly this doesn't bother me so much because it lowers the investment in real relationships.

>Both are at fault. Otome is bigger than ever in Japan. And a lot of women have given up men for their husbandos. Men get a lot of shit but media directed to women to fulfill self-insert fantasies is as plentiful.
I suppose that's true. It tends to come up less on 4chan for obvious reasons, and I must comment that large swathes of what I say are based on that experience. (Though I'm not a total autist who's never left the house, my primary annoyance comes from those types instead of from "Chad" who's out having sex.)

>What do you mean?
Men who're genuinely content with their waifu, or with watching documentaries about palm trees and fapping once a day (Herbivore male) are ideally not desperately seeking out a girlfriend at any cost, with the resultant negative effects of that behaviour.

Isn't Japan's problem one that goes a bit both ways, in that Japanese women have a much higher expectation of how much their husband should be providing for them, tying into the frankly insane Japanese work ethic?

Also nowadays it's not about what men can provide. A lot of women want to go college and have jobs that aren't "office lady" or inherently feminine jobs like nurses and teachers. Japanese men are too deep in the idea of yamato nadesiko and that they need to protect their girls, but nowdays women aren't seeking to be pampered.

Stalking and overprotectiveness from husband/ex-husband it's a huge issue in Japan.

Not really, the problem is that Brutal DOOM brought in a ton of new fans who are convinced that Brutal DOOM is a straight upgrade to Vanilla DOOM and deem a lot of the explicit gameplay changes (replacing the pistol with an assault rifle, zooming iron sights, drastically changing enemy damage/hitboxes, etc.) as no big deal when in reality it makes some wads virtually unplayable. Combine that with the code for Brutal DOOM being an absolute mess, and it becomes very difficult for established wad makers to make maps Brutal DOOM-compatible. Add in the kiddies who demand that every new wad be just that combined with Sargent Mark IV being a bit of a nutcase, and there's a huge backlash against Brutal DOOM.

None.
The moment that any group of fans gets big enough to considered a fanbase it turns to shit because more people means more of a chance of weird/crazy people. Small, niche groups are usually fine because there's a smaller chance that a few crazy people will ruin everything, and in the off chance that there some do become vocal enough, they're shamed out of the community due to the lack of support from other crazy people.

Back before the internet was big, this was much less of a problem because there was never really one big community for a show/game/whatever. If something was popular, a large enough fanbase could never be formed. And when the internet did finally become commonly used by the average person, the popularity of these things had already peaked, and the chance for a large fanbase to form was gone.

However, things that appealed to people more inclined towards to technology and early internet adapters did manage to form awful fanbase because of how easy the internet made it for fans to communicate with each other. The best example is Star Trek. Star Trek is the original shitty fandom because of the internet.

I don't understand why 682 gets so much shit. I always like the mystery of no one knowing where he actually came from, but I do agree that's its strange that the SCP foundation is so focused on killing him and not others when there are like at least 20 more likely to end the world than him.

Only one SCP has pissed me off. One called SCP-953-"polymorphic humanoid" is some mythological fox person, but it pisses me off because it mentions fucking fur fags and saying "any furry personel are not to be assigned to it." Implying that fucking fur fags would ACTUALLY WORK AT THE SCP FOUNDATION, or even worse DO.
