Ghastly had undiagnosed OCD which lead to his breakdown. His wife left him while he was in the mental hospital. He seems to be doing better now, doesn't seem very confused at least not from what I've seen him post on his Tumblr. I'd say he's in a pretty good place now, he has a boyfriend and is working as an actor now in Canada. He doesn't do much in the way of comics though but he seems very happy. He finished up an old comic series he started before his breakdown recently and put it up online.

I'd say as far as artist breakdowns go he came through his a lot better than others have.

A good webcomic, or at least one that has a good following, has the right combination of writing, drawing, and consistency. There have been comics that have horrible writing, but are cute, and update. There have been stick figures, 8-bit, and copy-paste comics that people have enjoyed. You can be a brilliant writer and great artist, but if you don't update, traffic will be in the single figures a week.

Really, updates are your biggest asset. Look at Garfield, which hasn't been funny since 1980, and you can have random panels put up, and people will still read it.

No art is so sacred. The original got edited because most people find the character art in MoJ to be hideous. Porn comics that you can't fap to tend not to go over well with general audiences. Another great comic done in by creator breakdown. He's been on a "we get it, you're sad" kick with Depression Comics for the past few years which has been getting very repetitive but it's also very popular on Tumblr. He says he's going to return with a few new Sexy Losers strips in the fall so hopefully he's working through his mental health issues and is in a place where he's comfortable being happy again. I'd rather wait until he's ready to return to a comic like Sexy Losers again than have him feel he's obligated to do it, then suffer another creator breakdown which kills the comic for good. Ultimately it is his mental health that is more important than the comic.
