I was just expecting responses to the OP doodle. I was gonna go Hope Corgi myself.

He probably doesn't masturbate enough.

No that's definitely the problem.

Fuck off Tumblrnigger

>>

Why is every single comic by this guy the same?

>oh no I have feelings!
>real life is too hard!
>>
>>85962477

Honestly anon, that's like what 99 percent of the posts on this board are whenever people talk about their personal life
>>
>>85962296
he just figured out a formula that guarantees him thousands of reblogs and likes for his shitty 'so relateable' comics

ironically he also made a comic whining about how people don't care about 'original' ideas and always just go for fanart of popular things. like no shit dumbass.

>this board
>this site
>this internet

if there's anything that Childish Gambino's 2013 LP 'Because the Internet' taught me is that the internet and the digital age truly is a breeding ground for self-pity as a habit and I hope that this PHAROS project is just as profound.
>>
>>85962296
Masturbating makes some people feel deep internal hatred and shame.
>>
>>85962477
Because shitloads of people struggle with those very sentiments and making comics about that gets you tens of thousands of notes

obviously they are doing it wrong and they pic shitty waifus

No, you have to spread it out over 6 reparate panels.

do you think he does it for reblogs and likes?

>>
>>85962946
Validation is a powerful drug. Even if it's empty validation by internet sycophants.
>>
>>85962946
He's probably unaware that he's hit jackpot, considering he also makes comics complaining about how artists are never recognized unless they do what's popular.
>>
>>85961914
I smirked but it was not the most smirkingly smirk I could have smirked. That being said dude probably needs to masturbate more.

Plus, it's pretty funny, especially if you imagine it's just one guy that has demons that follow him everyday while everyone else has a normal and stable life.

Just because it doesn't apply to me doesn't mean I cant enjoy it.

Honestly I really don't see the problem.

I mean that means to say I love his stuff, but is hardly something to make a hate thread about.

I mean there are totally worse comics out there.
I mean there is that Dumb Age comic or that one literally just about some 7 year old trans thing without even attempts at humor
Now THOSE are worth shitposting about.

This guy I feel like a person should feel indifference at best toward him.

Yeah, no. It was mostly to prevent soviets from invading Japan. You could say that it did prevent having a 'North Japan and South Japan' but not that it saved lives in the short term, especially American lives. (I doubt they gave a shit about a red's or a Jap's live back then, otherwise, they would have supported the Easter front more quickly or not bomb the fuck out of Japan)

Even the general in charge of the Pacific front said that the nuclear bombs were not very effective. Or maybe it was the President. I don't remember, US history is not my specialty, but I'm sure someone in /his/ could help you out.

As someone who has to be treated professionally for paranoia, I have a suggestion. This is just a construct I've come up with myself, but it seems to help a lot.

You'll never be able to convince yourself that they never could be laughing at you. You'll always feel they conceivably could be. Instead, you can weight the potential of if they are.

Assume they are laughing; what has changed because of it? What physical value or quantity is changed? Absolutely nothing. Lets put it to a simple example. You walk by two people. One snickers to the other as you are in proximity. What happened here? You could think they laughed about you as you walked by. Okay, so what if they are? What about the situation changed? Nothing. The simple fact remains you walked by and one of them snickered while you happened to walk by. What they actually thought and what you thought equally changes nothing intrinsic to the situation. Not even your own perspective of the situation changes any values.

If they laughed at you or just near you is the same thing, functionally speaking. Wither you angst or ignore it is also functionally the same. The only effect the situation has is grief projected by yourself on to yourself. Grief you decided you liked having cause you picked it over other options you had. That grief is your choice to have in a situation that didn't matter either way.

Grasp it on a basic level and grow it out from there. Sure you run the risk of becoming a selfish ass that doesn't care about anyone but #1, but if that happens you were always an ass pretending you weren't.

I still get the stab of paranoia whens hit happens, but remembering to walk through it with that construct kills the emotion. Then I can move the fuck on.

Works for stupid shit you are ashamed you did as a kid too.

My method is a bit laborious to learn. It's not something that comes natural. It's like a skill you hone then have to keep occasionally touching up if it gets a bit rusty. Eventually I started it more or less by force of habit. Not sure when, though. Just sorta happens through persistence.

>>85968726
I think the same process has helped me compartmentalize emotions in general too. Being sad over a loss doesn't fix it, but then being sad doesn't hurt you either. So you might as well be sad if you want and get it out if that's how you truly feel. Won't hurt anyone. Least of all you. Other times, anger genuinely has a place. Sometimes it helps and is justified. Sometimes it's a good fuel you can channel in to a positive result even though the emotion is seen as negative. In this, the physical truth is that a good was done regardless of source.

Not letting emotion dictate act, rather than making you cold, makes you more expressive when you aren't constantly scared of shitty whim based results.

Yeah but this guy overplays how shitty life can be sometimes just to appear relatable.

As an artist, one way to get over the nagging feeling that people only care about your shitty fandom drawings is to act as if it's all just according to keikaku. Lure in people with fandom drawings and once you've amassed some followers start slipping in OC as well. There won't be that many people but they will eventually start faving and sharing your OC.

If you want a good representation of anxiety, watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xp22IYL2uU
>>
>>85971835
It is.

It doesn't merely mean your own perspective matters worth shit. It means everyone's perspective matters worth shit. Gravity makes objects down to it's source no matter how much people scream it shouldn't be so. Likewise, nobodies perspective on who you are changes inherent facts about you. People can even call you a nigger and it means nothing. The same act can be interpreted multiple ways and it doesn't change the act itself. An act that helps others, done for selfish reasons or not, is still an act that helped others. A bad act done for (supposedly) good reason does not become a good act simply because someone insists the spirit of it was right.

Perspective being mutable is in your favor entirely. It stops shitty people from making your life shit for shitty reasons. If you look at it the right way.

People believing one things, or seeing it one way, does not mean you have to see it that way. Likewise, you don't have to worry about having an opinion or point of view suitable for the literal entire world.

Shit like this.

>United States intelligence broke the Japanese code early in the war. Truman's diary also confirms that he knew Japan was trying desperately to get out of the war by opening a negotiating channel through Moscow.

>Truman's advisers told him that surrender was likely if the United States let it be known Japan could keep its Emperor, a clarification the President told several top officials he had no fundamental objections to (and which he subsequently offered).

>Truman was advised not to use the atomic bombs by such figures as Adm. William D. Leahy, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. We know from Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson's diaries and other documents that the rush to use atomic bombs quickly, rather than follow other available courses, was intimately connected with the desire to end the conflict before the Soviet Union entered it on Aug. 15, 1945, and with the hope that the bomb would help in disputed European negotiations.

>But the central point was probably best put in General Eisenhower's blunt formulation: ''It wasn't necessary to hit them with that awful thing.''

habitually masturbating can

1. become an addiction. Porn addiction is a pervasive problem which our generation is sort of the first to tackle. This overstimulation itself causes problems
2. a dopamine spike, which is why sometimes you'll cum without orgasm, or feel sadness or an almost guilty response. There's even a clinical diagnosis for it if it happens frequently but I forget the name.

>We spent the greater half of a decade developing the ultimate bomb so we could clock block Russia from possibly getting an incredibly tiny advantage in the Cold War that hadn't started yet, and that the Japanese were going to surrender anyways even though after two nuclear warheads a portion of the military attempted a coup rather than let the literal godhead of the country be defeated, with a population so nationalist and war thirsty we still found people who refused to abandon post decades laters, entire villages that committed mass suicide rather than be captured, and openly did shit that would have made the most fanatical Nazi go "dude", all the while we also made over a million Purple Heart in preperation for the land invasion of mainland japan, had made plans to use the bombs in Germany, and (again) began to develope the tech way before Russia looked at Japan, all for deniability about using them to keep Russia out of Japan.

Yes Mc Arthur said that Japan was going to surrender and the bombs were unnecessary , but at the same time he was an old man with the guilt of two nuclear explosions. Survivors guilt is fucked up but it happens. No one who has spent more than two minutes researching Japan's role in world war 2 would tell you the bombs were "America stopping the soviet states"

Personally I blame this stupid revisionist history on the fact that we sweep that "Japan was Uber-Nazis under the rug" and this weird SJW tendency to try to white guilt every action America made.

Because we're anonymous so we have nothing to gain or lose, we just do it because we wanted to post in the thread. He continues to make comics because the fans want it, that tends to happen when you get popular, so when he runs low on ideas, (and you can tell that he does), he just rehashes the same cutesy joke 100 times over to stretch out his updates.

Also self-inserts with jokes about how depressed or anti-social you are are the lowest level attempt at making a comic.

I love the Two Best Friends, watch them everyday, so I don't think PDP should get absolutely nothing, but millions in a year is outrageous.

I also think it's fine for OwlTurd to have his popularity, this stuff thrives on Tumblr and that makes sense. As someone who is trying to get into the animation industry, however, I do get slightly annoyed when average web comic artists get hired as writers and storyboard artists for Nickelodeon and CartoonNetwork just because it seems like they weren't even trying for that job, they just HAPPENED to get it by accident, whoops! I could probably re-adjust all my stuff and start making relatable comics and cutesy characters all the time to get noticed, but I don't want to be forced to follow their route of success to get it, so I don't.

I could also draw Pokemon and furries and get tons of commissions and etsy money, but I don't want that either, but that doesn't mean it doesn't sting a bit when people like Shadbase make more in a month than I do.

>>
>>85986265
Yes, and I don't think diary comics are very good. I especially don't think it's good if an artist does it for several years and pursues nothing else creative. Some people don't care if they stagnate, but I think every artist should give a shit about growing in some way.

>I don't think PDP should get absolutely nothing, but millions in a year is outrageous.
He has more viewers. Shouldn't that mean more money? I'm not into the LP scene but I assume how that works. You may consider a lot of these people average webcomic creators and artists, but what makes yourself stand out. What makes their art less special? Because they draw simple and cute things?
>>
>>85986284
Depression is embarrassing and most people who actually suffer from it do so in silence, either because they feel weak or that no one will care to listen even if they did want to talk about it.

Saying how depressed you are, in public, and all the kinds of medication you're on is just attention whoring.
>>
>>85986346
I'd like to think if that was the case, there'd be a lot more comics dealing with the subject of his depression rather than vague "I Am Depressed" statements.
>>
>>85986284

The work ethic, usually. Someone working less gaining way more. You can always try to make sense of it and just reply with, "Well then just copy them if they're so successful", but it's often more difficult than that. You don't want to just copy other people, you want to get noticed for your own work ethic, over-saturated market as said before, etc.

For all we know, OwlTurd could be doing figure studies every single day and working feverishly on his own stories that he has been trying to push to comic publishing companies, but he certainly never shows it, so we can only assume what we see is what he is: Just your typical web comic artist who makes cute jokes about being sad or life being hard.

His Patreon is incredibly low though and his only success seems to come from Tumblr notes, so I don't know why there is a hate thread for him in particular.

It seems like one of the more "socially acceptable" mental illnesses out there right now, tying with anxiety. There are more and more articles and such dealing with them than anything else, at least, that's what it seems like. I definitely can't see the same kind of shareable comics being done about, say, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia or things like that that make you sound like a psychopath.

It pisses me off because the comics don't carry emotion, not really. They're about "depression", but they veil it in a quirky punchline comic so it's hard to take serious in the way he wants us to.

I don't think I've ever seen people talk about depression in a way that actually shows how they feel. They try to make it quirky and make a "joke" and it ruins any sort of personal note it could be carrying.

But the comic wasn't about someone wallowing in it, it was that all their peers didn't understand and eventually just got mad at them for having depression and told them to get over it while showing false understanding of," I totally get it! Yeah, depression! I was sad the other day".

Dude in comic is out at a bar, movies, and out for a walk with friends. Why? Probably because his friends would deem him rude if he said no. He said yes and ended up not being social the whole time and labelled rude because of it, and if he said no his friends would have said you never want to do anything with us and labelled rude regardless. So this guy would have been ostracized. Why? Because people who have depressed friends don't ACTUALLY want to deal with them. They don't want to put in the work of being their friend because it's too much work, especially when there are no signs of getting better.

Sure, it isn't their responsibility to take care of them, but don't act like it's totally on the guy who has depression to make the relationship work. Rarely are there platonic friend break-ups where Friend A says I don't want to be your friend anymore, I don't think I can handle your depression, it's just too much and I have a lot on my own plate and Friend B responds, sure, I guess that's fair, it is my burden to deal with after all.

Hell of an assumption there. Most folks are a-okay with hearing, "Look, I'm not in the best way right now and don't want to bring anyone else down." or some variation. Sounds a lot like personal insecurity to me, anon.

>Because people who have depressed friends don't ACTUALLY want to deal with them. They don't want to put in the work of being their friend because it's too much work, especially when there are no signs of getting better.

You said it yourself: It isn't their responsibility to take care of them.

>but don't act like it's totally on the guy who has depression to make the relationship work.

No. It's a two-way street. Unless you're doing equal work to make their fucky brain chemistry work, then you're not upholding your end of the social contract. (And if you *are* both that in-depth with shit, it tends to get real codependent, real fucking fast.)

>Rarely are there platonic friend break-ups where Friend A says I don't want to be your friend anymore, I don't think I can handle your depression, it's just too much and I have a lot on my own plate and Friend B responds, sure, I guess that's fair, it is my burden to deal with after all.

>Most folks are a-okay with hearing, "Look, I'm not in the best way right now and don't want to bring anyone else down.
Most people are not okay with hearing that for months in a row. A lot of people will stop being your friend or just fade out of your life if you don't go out with them from time to time. Which, if you have a depressed friend, is something you will be hearing a lot.

I have a depressed friend who is an artist who has basically lost all of his college school friends sans me and another. Some of them are due to being his fault, like screwing a group who they were suppose to be doing a project together by not doing his end of the work, and some are just due to people slowly losing interest in hanging out with his because he was so blasé about everything.

I've eventually dwindled into losing contact with him because for months I've tried to do something with him, even just watch a TV show over Skype, but all he wants to do is draw. I've tried to keep up with his art, but they're so abstract and personal to him all I can really say is, "That's good, I like it". Gets hard to comment on that type of art when you've been shown it for 2+ years. Me forcing them to do and watch stuff they don't want to isn't really part of a social contract, that sounds more like a Sims mechanic for making sure your friendship level stays above 50 points. If all they like doing is drawing, then they'll draw, but I will indeed lose interest in them if that's all they do.

And I imagine it's the same for people in a lot of other situations like this. Some depressed people just want to stay in but their friends want to go out. Some might be understanding, but a good portion will label them rude if that's all they want to do. You yourself admitted to thinking a person who can't control it is greedy. No where in that comic was the depressed person lashing out, they were simply existing and being sad and still getting shat on because they couldn't fake being upbeat.

But the thing is that in this case, it actually IS easy. I can speak from experience as an artist that posts regularly on Tumblr.

If I publish OC or fanart that I spent a lot of effort on I get very little notes. 10+ at best for the OC, 100+ at best for the fanart.

But whenever I ride on a bandwagon and do the "lel so relatabul" or fandom shitpost comics I break the thousand notes easy. Of course, the joke you're trying to get across needs to hit, but for the most part it's not hard to make one of those and rake in the notes.

At the very least, the note explosions make me gain more followers, and the art that I put effort into is getting noticed. So not only it's not hard, but it's more or less encouraged that you sell yourself out if you want to get attention.

>>85987656
i hate comics like this
it always involves a single person having depression and then everyone around them either tries to help or doesn't care and the person goes "boo hoo noone understands me"
what it completely ignores is the fact that, unbelievably, other people also have emotions, and are probably also struggling, and now they also have to put up with a friend who will not stop complaining, they probably want to complain as well, everyone does, but they realise that complaining doesn't solve anything and just makes it more difficult for the people around you.
Seriously this is like the 10th "mental problems if they were actually physical problems" comic i've seen, and it always focuses on only one person, and shows every other person as just a nameless individual who is OBVIOUSLY not as deep and thoughtful as the main character and would NEVER get what they are going through.
Some people just need to get off their high horse.
>>
>>85997432
I don't think anyone said something to the contrary, at least not facetiously, just a bunch on anons expressing that they feel like the artist's other work is better, than what seems seems like something so easily produced as these later comics.
>>
>>85964095
The cynicism is due experience
>>
>>85998715
Thats because most people don't understand mental illness and repeatedly need to be told this shit because they still respond with stuff like, "Man, I've been sad recently, maybe I suffer from depression?" or "You should do something that makes you happy!". The "its a physical pain" equivalence is the only way these people will understand. This comic isn't for depressed people like Shen's, this is for people who fail to understand depression, which is a large fucking amount.

It's like how there are naive people who think racism doesn't exist anymore because, "I see lots of black people in my work place!" or fail to understand what the point of those scholarship programs to reach out to poor minorities and call them racist for not allowing everyone to compete.
>>
>>85999846
>to poor minorities and call them racist for not allowing everyone to compete.
That is racist.
>>
>>86000037
Having a couple of programs to give people who have had their ancestors purposely put down due to their race and as a result their great great grandchildren were not able to advance in life isn't really racist, it's more like helping some people catch up in a race where someone else got a 10 mile headstart.

Of course that post could have just been bait, but I explained it anyway. Any post after this I won't respond to cause if you still don't get it, then you are indeed one of those people I just described, in which case, no wonder you hate the "physical pain" metaphor.

And /co/ rehashes the same threads 1000 times over all for some delicious (You)s. Just like that thread linked in >>85984978, the topic of which pops up at least twice a month. And that's without counting all the occasions threads devolve into /r9k/-tier circlejerking.

In fact, that the artist is making something productive out of his self-doubt and feelings of misery instead of shitposting on /co/ for free already places him several tiers over the average anon. Or are you actually going to defend the inexistent honor of this God-forsaken board?
>>
>>86002197
Why the fuck do people like you equate what a single artist is doing to an entire website that gets different users every single day? That thread is probably made by different people every single time, and even if the same people post in that thread, a lot of new users post in there, too. It's such a stupid fucking argument to compare an artist milking shit to a community having popular threads.

That's like saying why aren't I allowed to give people the death sentence? Jails in Texas do it all the time!

It's not the goddamn same and stop treating it like it is. There's like 50 posts in this thread alone trying to justify his lame writing with a shit counter point.
>>
>>85999846
My main problem with this is that a lot of people DO understand. Almost every one of these comics shows everyone other than the protagonist as a person with no clue about depression or other mental problems, when the truth is that most of them probably have experienced it before and are trying to help, yet the main character pushes them away as obviously there is no way they could ever POSSIBLY understand what they are going through, ect.
>>
>>86002458
>Why the fuck do people like you equate what a single artist is doing to an entire website that gets different users every single day?
I don't. That's my point. Out of maybe a hundred people on the internet, one is an artist with followers while the other 99 are dumping images on a thread on 4chan.
