This is apparently quite true, incidentally. Most Wrights aren't actually all that helpful in a straight up fight, because most aren't as good as those we've been following up until now. They're either not creative enough, not adaptable enough, not as capable of pulling off the more complicated stuff, or just plain not fast enough. I'm sure it's been mentioned before a wright taking the kinetic force aspect or whatever the proper term would be from water in a waterfall hitting the bottom. Based on the previous page, where there's light spiking out of his hands, this is probably what's happening. We saw a similar effect when a wright was storing an explosion aspect in his hands. If I recall, Quiggley was fighting him and by disruppting his concentration he wasn't able to release it in time, and it exploded in his hands. And split them in half. Elka was probably trying to do something similar, if not out right kill him.

Probably the greatest weakness of unsounded is the lack of an editor.

The chick making this has talent dripping out her fingernails, but she is not the strongest storyteller out there.

having awesome ideas and being a terriffic cartoonist does not make you a storyteller.

This is a case where an editor, a GOOD editor, to go over her scripts before she creates the comic would be an improvement.

Assuming her process allows such things. lots of webcomics creators literally write it as they create it. It's a very immediate, fluid medium because of it, but some comics suffer for it.

I think she said that she has the story written out all the way to the end, though I'm not sure to what degree of detail.
Problem is, she doesn't seem to believe people when they say they actually want to be told more about how things work in comic because she thinks most readers wouldn't care and it would detract from the actual story. And to a degree, that's a fair point - there does need to be a balance between those things. But she's waaaaay too far on the "doesn't explain enough" side which can make actions and their consequences seem confusing or like an ass-pull.
It's kind of frustrating, really, because if you look at how she answers questions, it's pretty clear that she has actually thought everything out very well.

In this scene, I'm pretty sure that Elka tried to kill that wright so she could use the falls to escape. I'm not quite sure if the wright is deliberately blocking their (or anyone else's) escape or is gathering energy to attack the city in one big fuck-off blast. I initially assumed he was, but why not JUST do that and set fire to the rubble? And him holding all that pressure aspect is obviously killing him, so I don't think he's just waiting around for the black ops team to finish.

Remember Duane's hand? He burned off the top layer of all his skin dealing with that smoke eel. The only way I see pymary+sex working and not ending up with a charred dick is if it was done exclusively for the other partner's benefit, akin to a strip tease or pole dancing or something. The uncertainty screwed the climax of their confrontation just now because we didn't know what the stakes were. Most people seem to have thought he was blocking their escape when he was actually just gonna let them by anyway so he could blow up the town. Knowing that their attack on him was an attempt to save to whole town and not just their own skins changes the characterizations and tension of the moment pretty considerably

If I recall correctly, it actually has everything to do with his soul. Khert mutations are tied to those, not the physical body itself, though the physical body is affected by the soul's mutation.

I think it's a problem that manifests mostly with the magic. A lot of it is hard to distinctly show in only one panel or two, and it would break the flow to make the effects of the magic stated outloud in many cases. Though perhaps not here. Any more would bog down the action, but keeping it to that few as it is now can cause problems for people who haven't been keeping close track of how everything is supposed to work. This has become especially evident in the last few chapters, such as Duane phasing through a wall during the fight with the Silver Pain monster, Elka's group falling through a floor after the solidity aspect or whatever was removed, and this current bit with the wright soaking up the pressure from the waterfall to destroy the town.

The last one is interesting, because we'll have to see how it actually places out. In effect, it probably works quite simply as "mage charges some crazy looking shit, explodes the city." It's hard to see now because we're right in the middle of it, but it also comes across as a very evident mage is about to pull some crazy shit thing.

Action in general tend to have readability problems in these last few chapters, due to the pace of it all. It doesn't look bad, but it's not the most evident sort of thing on a simple read.

I don't think the editing suffers in general, because the characters and the story itself is some A+ quality stuff. A lot of the recent story bits have flown really well, allowing for both more explicit revelations of the plot, and more subtle indications about character motivations. Delicieu's reveal was both amazing and incredibly obvious in retrospect. Toma going all suicidal because his life has basically fallen apart is never outright said, but becomes very apparent after his "I don't have a godsdamned home" line work well, and shines an interesting light on his more dangerous heroism until now. The recent scenes, obtuse magic filled as they are, also flow very well from one to each other and have a real sense of the multiple plot lines continuing at the same time, intertwining, and both quickly beginning to reach their climax.
