YO. WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I SUPPORT THIS SHIT IN THEATERS? WHY DIDN'T YOU?
I just watched this and fuck. Guillermo del Toro was so right.
Fuck dude, I seriously am sad I didn't even help this thing succeed.
>>85937946
In my country this movie came out almost one year later and stayed in the theater for like 2-3 days, with litterally no commercial or anything saying that it was actually out.
I supported it when it came out where the fuck where you nerd?
because i've never heard of it
they should of advertised it more
>>85938042
I was waffling around because the advertisements didn't do this movie any favors
>>85937946
Eh. Wasn't even that good.
It was a good movie. Not all good movies need to be huge hits.
>>85937946
It wasn't THAT good. Plot structure was kind of shit and the underworld wasunderused.
Still, it was really fucking pretty, the songs were great, and the characters were well-written; plus cultural diversity in storytelling is a good thing, so... yeah, it was good. It just suffers from the same problem as the shit Laika puts out.
>>85937946
I supported. Not 100% on whether it was worth it or not. There's a lot to not like
>>85937946
Becuase I was butthurt the execs tried to trademark a holliday.
And the trailers also werent very motivating.
>>85937946
it costs like twenty bucks to see a movie in this country and I'm poor
>>85938087
>>85938066
It doesn't need to be that good though, it was just visually impressive and bold. Because honestly, I wouldn't have even imagined that execs would green light a project this different, without the mainstays of any modern kids movies.
>>85938060
>He needs to be heavily marketed to
You're ruining film.
>>85938060
But the visual style alone didn't tip you off that might be worth your time? How about Kubo, you give that a miss too? Besides, if you saw a damn AD for it why didn't you do some research or something?
>>85939301
I did see kubo (2x), but I also had to convince my family to go see movies with me, no car.
>>85937946
i watched in theaters here in my country but it didn't do well, promotion for it was ass, funny enough most people that was there was a El tigre fan, we all pointed out the Manny and Frida cameo.
>>85937946
Reminder that the creator said its canon Book of Life and El Tigre are in the same universe.
I doubt it ever was released in theatres in my country
but I bought it on BluRay, that't the least I can do right
>>85937946
It was pretty but that was it. The dialogue was boring. The story had way more potential than was realized. The slapstick got old immediately. I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in theaters.
But op I did. I also went to see kubo. Infact I try to see most animated films that aren't garbage
>>85938330
Oh you fucking dipshit. That was over an entirely different movie; the Disney one, Coco. It isn't out yet.
>>85937946
In my case, because it aired in about 5 theaters around all my country and just for 2 weeks or so. I got to watch it in cinema some months ago during Easter, in a cycle of movies for children.
I watched it and got a Xibalba figure. Shame about the figure though, I don't think they tested it properly because the wings are too heavy to put on.
>>85937946
I never knew when it was released in my country.
Maybe I should still get the home release.
That being said I wasn't as positive about it as you, OP. Very crammed movie, could have been trimmed down a bit.
I guess they knew they wouldn't get a sequel.
>>85938087
>songs were great
See, I always thought this, but most of the time BoL is brought up, people always mention it being plagued by shitty pop songs that don't fit the theme.
Memory doesn't serve me well, but i just don't remember that being the case. Honestly the only song I do remember is the one on the balcony
>no posts about skeleton waifus
Sometimes I worry about you guys....
>>85941713
The OP's picture is the only waifus I need.
>>85937946
Because while it sorta looked pretty. It had horrible pacing and no focus.
>>85937946
Because it's an Americanized bastardization of Mexican culture, using only only stereotype voices for side characters and white bread American ones for the leads.
>>85941829
>Americanized bastardization of western culture
>Created by an adult Mexican man born in Mexico City, Mexico.
Are you that same Mexican chick that complained about US college students visiting Mexico for spring break, then blocked me when I said "at least the Americans go back home?"
>>85937946
>>85943557
>>85943770
>Pendejo
I bought the DVD for five bucks.
The money would've been better spent on tacos.
>>85946282
Taco Bell should have promoted this movie.
>>85947889
Mc D's had a Halloween pail and some stickers. Felt kinda wrong.
>>85941569
The songs work better if you think of them as what the kids imagined were being performed.
>>85937946
I think the biggest letdown of the movie was the fact that some of the supporting characters, most particularly La Muerte, Xibalba and Manolo's skelly relatives, were more interesting than the actual protags. I was also really disappointed how the Land of the Remembered was so little explored.
>>85950383
I agree with a lot of the posts like this but I'll reply to you specifically
And the advertising for the movie put a LOT of focus on the afterlife and skeleton people, despite the place and them having very little screentime
In a past thread I think I timed the movie and they spend less than 17 minutes in the land of the dead
I haven't gone into actually investigating but I have a feeling that the fucking mariachis have more screen time than La Muerte
I did though.
And I honestly didn't think it was very good beyond animation.
>>85950560
Pretty much this. Animation and artstyle were 10/10. Story was like, 5/10 maybe? If I'm being generous.
>>85937946
There was way too little afterlife stuff.
>>85937946
It was a good film. Too bad you didn't sorry but it did well in theaters world wide. Though some people on /co/ were still triggered for silly hyper sensitive reasons.
I personal quite liked it. I really look forward to more from the team!
>>85938076
La Muerte's figure didn't need bigger tits, and that's from someone who loves big tits.
>>85940566
Good man. Just saw it myself.
>>85940817
Seriously? Source link?
I heard Katie Rice worked in this movie, since she was in the main crew of El Tigre. But it's not on IMDB.
Is it true?
>>85952004
I heard that too. Also did anyone else from the El Tigre original crew got called for The Book of Like?
>>85952246
El Tigre had a comic!? niceee
>>85952308
Penciled by Katie, she also did storyboard and some promotional material for the show. I'm really curious if she did work for Book of Life. If she did stuff as a freelance storyboard artist would it show up in IMDB?
>>85937946
This movie stayed on theaters for like 3 weeks in my country. i was only able to watch it during a flight to Japan.
>>85952412
>>85937946
I watched it a few times. Support my fellow Mexicans and all. I wish the plot had been stronger, but shit, it was fucking beautiful. I hope he gets a shot at the sequels he wanted to do. It could be a lot of fun.
But mostly I want to see more about those twins and what they were up to. Revolutionaries.
Wait, there were planned sequels?!
>>85937946
>YO. WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I SUPPORT THIS SHIT IN THEATERS? WHY DIDN'T YOU?
I actually did. It was so good looking in 3D my eyes imploded.
>>85953198
Really loved how they did those details about the animals surrounding them.
>>85953198
>la virgen de guadalupe
>http://mexopolis.tumblr.com/post/117616637934/early-maria-acting-explorations-by-our-dear-friend
>Maria and Chuy original design by Katie Rice
>>85937946
But did it succeed? Did it warrant sequels?
>>85941569
I thought the songs generally sounded fine, but the sudden Radiohead cover made me raise an eyebrow.
>>85952576
>>85950383
The twins had my favorite designs besides the two gods. Shame they had roughly three lines.
>>85954305
So they are this movie's Bobba Fett?
>>85952412
>>85952004
Some one?
>>85954360
I'd say with less dying, than I remembered that they were already dead.
>>85954653Skull joke!
>>85937946
I supported it. I saw it twice in theaters, both times in 3D. It was totally worth it because this movie was absolutely gorgeous visually, but the story and jokes could've been better and the use of the pop songs was jarring.
Also, La Muerte > Skeletwins. This is fact.
el bampo
>>85937946
I took my boy to see it.
I thought it was OK. I only went to see it because he wanted to.
Looking forward to Kubo though when it comes out over here in
Bbongland.
Mary is absolute sex.
"FROSTED CHURROS"
I turned it off. Look, a pretty art style can't make up for lame writing. Half the time I couldn't tell if Del Toro or Donald Trump wrote this.
>>85955909
Yeah I didnt want to watch it because Mexicans in media usually boil down to hats and the few food related words white people can pronounce. Its not a great watch
>>85955831
why is she wearing a cup on her head?
>>85937946
I saw it twice nigger!
>>85957983
It's a stylized pillbox hat or whatever you call those attendents hats I assume.
>>85951347
Can't find his statement on it, unfortunately, though tvtropes and the respective wikis for both El Tigre and TBoL state it. It appears Sartana is also La Muerte's daughter, hence her skeletal motif and apparent immortality.
>>85943770
>skeleton boob
>>85953635
it made twice it's budget.
But i dont think there's a high demand for a sequel
>>85954241
I don't remember it at all. Usually I hate shitty pop songs, Rihanna's Drive in Wreck it Ralph bugs me to this day so u find it weird I don't remember anything of the sort in BoL when it's constantly brought up
>>85937946
i drew art for it dammit
i mean, thats not really the kind of support you were looking for but fuck!
also, i did watch it a week ago
fucking guide lady at the beginning, why did no one draw her?
>>85938060
Animated movies have marketing teams up of autistic cyborgs on cocaine. They cannot be trusted
>>85938076
>>85951268
huge hits, says one anon
huge tits, says next anon
drew this back when it hit
huge tits for a not huge hit
>>85960932
>fucking guide lady at the beginning, why did no one draw her?
There's a couple on paheal, one looks like it's done by Polyle.
>>85953137
Cameo still makes me smile
>>85961070
I heard Carmen is also in there?
>>85962678
>tits
>ass
>>85943770
>Undertale
Die
>>85950383
That is the biggest disappointment.
We see some exploration of the brink of the underworld, but the city itself is nothing more than a short scene where we are introduced to some characters
>>85941569
The shitty pop song mariachi covers were hilarious.
>>85964945
Not enough porn
Bought it on Blu-ray when it came out but never saw it in theaters. My movie group has a thing about scary movies, and one person kept swearing skeletons=spooky. Didn't really see any advertising to counter them though
>>85938029
At least it came out in your country;_;
>>85967234
Estonia?
>>85965549
That person is a pussy.
>>85953208
This and Kubo really made good use of the 3D.
>>85963883
You first.
>>85937946
>>85937946
>WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I SUPPORT THIS SHIT IN THEATERS?
Speak for yourself faggot
I did supported it
>Book Of Life releases on a budget of 50 Mil
>Grosses 100 Mil
>Pretty good
>Yet another generic Pixar/Disney movie #10394 with the same premise will be released in 2017
>Will probably gross over a billion
>mfw
I can't stand being in movie theaters because of noisy ass kids, assholes on phones, and people that stand up in the middle of the film and block your view.
I buy dvds.
>>85974806
I can't stand being in movie theaters because of people who do shootings.
>>85974806
Funny enough I never deal with those people when I go to watch animated movies. They seem more common in sessions of horror movies for me.
>>85976294
>common in sessions of horror movies
Have you heard that one black guy?
>>85974806
I can't stand being in movie theaters because of people clapping at the end of the movie.
>>85938029
Estonia?
>>85976229
>>85976807
If you don't like America you can git out!
So is this only worth a watch for the visuals?
>>85937946
bad marketing, hadn't even heard of the film until this post
>>85941446
Funko (TM)
>>85954241
>Stopped just before "I don't care if it hurts"
the fuck did he think about using that song.
>>85974400
It's really not fair how movies that actually dare to do something different, and do it WELL, gets no recognition in comparison to the constant rehashing of the same formula.
>>85979020
>No armpit hair
What is the point?
>>85985665
Shave it off.
>>85982738
>Not using question marks
