I don't think it even has to be a matter of "more". Like Nick dying, when it happened, was terrible but now Jessica dying after weeks of dealing with Nick's death and his creepy ghost, that's MORE terrible right? Like if you were Addison thinking of these two things the Jessica one would be the more immediate, the more awful.

I wonder about the fairies and the dead crawling out from inside the fairies. Did Nick's ghost need to die so the fairy could create Jessica's ghost? Are all the fairies one actual person?

It seems clear, at least, that Ambidrex is probably made from the plant we saw in the world war flashback and that Addison uses to attack.

The first panel of this page implies that emotional trauma allows whatever entity is behind this to take greater control of a person. Seeing Jessica being tortured probably gave Addison an upgrade.
