Where do we go when we die, /co/?
>>
The majority of humanity is in posession of an animal soul. It slowly disintegrates into nothing over time, or atrophies in various "heavens" before being recycled.
>>
>>85928903
Your mind and thoughts gets trapped in your own limbo.
That's your personal "paradise" where you will live happy forever and relive your happy moments.
In this place, everything will be just like you wish your life was.

Dunno about hell, tho.

Then the last two or three generations and the ones currently in the making are going to hell, since most of our and their "cherished memories" are sitting in front of a screen and fapping to waifus.

Even now with every solved captcha we're teaching some machine how to locate and kill people.

You become one with everything. Every square inch of space, every moment of time, every individual soul, all of it, that has ever existed, all at once, in a single, transcendent, neverending moment in which you understand what it truly means to be at one with God.

Thing is, you're still yourself. You're one with everything, but your consciousness still exists within it all, distinct but not separate. And you can feel how your life slotted into the entirety of existence, and the impact you had on others. And if you lived a good life with the best of intentions, that's great; it washes over you with joy and warmth. But if you've led a shit life and purposefully caused hurt or just never gave a shit about others, it's cold and dark and feels hollow and hurtful, so you flee from that infinite connection to find solace in the void.

That's the thing; when people say you're judged by God, it's not really God doing the judging so much as you judging yourself by the standards of God. In the end, you're the one person you can never lie to.

/co/ goes to their LHCS, which unfortunately isn't a library so they'll have to buy something in order to stay there.

Some sects believe that if you say the name Stan Lee five times before you die you go to Stan Lee Presents The Afterlife, where Jim Shooter judges all of your sins. Others hold that only the righteous will be gifted with 77 cartoon waifus (no anime), while some theorize that you simply become one with the board like the legendary Boco.

In ancient times the advice was usually to live well while you were alive because the afterlife was even worse (except for people who could buy their way into heaven by appeasing the death gods and whatever). Others believed you could appease the gods by being a great warrior.

Christianity laid the groundwork in the ancient world for the coming of Islam to the Middle East with its promises of a fun afterlife if you were a good person. The only religion well able to compete was Zoroastrianism which also promised that you'd get to hang out in a land of eternal sunshine if you sided with the good god against his shitlord brother. Old religions which said that things would be even worse after death died off.

In the East you had religions like Buddhism which promised that you'd cease to exist once you reached a point of perfect earthly peace, freed from the neverending hell of reincarnating into a miserable dirty world. Hinduism was similar except the reward for being good was being reborn into a better life next time.

In the Far East you had Japan combine ancient Shinto religion with Buddhism so people were afraid of death but believed by practicing good Buddhist rites they wouldn't be dragged down into the dank pits of hell to suffer for eternity. The Chinese with their Taoist religion believed that using magic and exerting your human soul to peak form you could actually achieve physical immortality- hence the myth of the Immortals who come to overthrow Chinese governments which have lost the favor of the gods.

In the modern era there are people who are terrified by the idea of non-existence and others who are terrified by the idea of an afterlife which sucks.

>>
>>85931949
Personally while the idea of not existing in any form after death is scary to me I realize there are plenty of illnesses which can effectively render your current self dead while alive.

I believe there probably is some kind of afterlife, given that earth is one single lifebearing planet out of millions of barren rocks with there probably being only a handful of several million other lifebearing worlds in a galaxy of billions of planets and planetoids. Likewise the evolution of humans is an extreme fluke of nature, the fact that there are only 4 or so other species close to us enough in intelligence that they can either be taught human forms of language and understand them to a high degree or have developed their own language (whales) or proto-culture (chimpanzees using tools, they're about the same level as aborigines pre-european contact) to dismiss the idea of some form of consciousness continuing after death is idiotic because it sounds weird is idiotic because the entire existence of earth and humankind itself is weird. This is also noting that most gnostic atheists (a gnostic atheist is the type of person to assert that there definitely is no god or afterlife or spirituality) often profess to love science but most seem to take a baby's view of science. Peekaboo science I'd call it- they assume we know so much but if you think for a second about medical technology and how the solution to many illnesses- such as gastrointestinal illnesses- is to simply remove an organ and live a much worse life for the rest of your days you have to realize we are incredibly primitive, our main advantages over the 19th century being that we make sure to sterilize medical equipment before use, have anaesthetics which aren't alcohol and understand that leeches only make things worse for sick people.
>>
>>85932009
The entire universe and everything we could potentially know is so vast and quite frankly unknowable to present day humans that people professing a love for science and a disdain for the idea of there being unseen things greater than us are just plain fucking stupid and have no business pretending they have a love of learning and discovery.
>>
It fucks me up knowing that no one alive has ever known or can ever know what it's like to die. Makes me want to die
>>
to me the vastness of the universe implies that there is at least 100 other cultures outside of earth sentient enough to have a grasp on religion. going off that, there's virtually no chance that any singular god you worship would be the correct one.
i just try and be nice and stick to what i say. that's pretty much my best overall bet to get into somewhere decent after i die.

I'm going bald in my early 20's and I hate all my friends and have very little sex drive or connection to new people. I don't see dying as anything sad, but I do realize that the people who love me do not see it that way, which is what has kept me off it for so long. Now that I've spent so much time away from those people, it just keeps getting easier to do it; the curiosity of THE unknown pulling me in and I frequently have daydreams about killing myself. It'll happen sooner or later, and I think knowing what happens will cheer me up, but I'm not sure how to communicate that.

Religion is largely about faith and hence confidence that your belief is the correct one

In many historical cases religious disputes resulted in theological debates like the ones in China as well as toleration and compromise, but obviously at other points in time you have the jihads and the crusades to which countered them or in the case of the ancient world you have the Assyrians forcing all conquered nations to acknowledge Ashur as the supreme god above all others and in China you had the Wuzong emperor declare all religions which did not specifically originate in China to be illegal, leading to a massive slaughter of Buddhists and the destruction of Buddhist monasteries and temples

In most cases religion typically serves a role for humans in living what an individual views as a correct and righteous life

You clearly have some extreme form of depression, you should probably see a doctor about getting some happy pills

Also as for the balding thing you should consider getting /fit/ and shaving your head- if people ask you can always claim that muscular men tend to go bald because of higher testosterone
>>
>>85932329
if everyone knew what happened after you'd die, whatever it is, most of the planet would kill themselves.
you think that knowing for sure will make you happy, but that's just because you've become so engaged in finding out the answer. even if you could consciously think about it, after you die, you'll be left with nothing to do, nothing to occupy yourself, baring the off chance it's some kind of memory wipe reincarnation thing.
early 20s is way too early to say that your life has been a failure. you might think it isn't, but it is. at least let the thought rot in your head for another 10 years.
don't think you can't make new friends either. if you can find people who relate to you in some random thread on the internet with 40 people in it, there's bound to be someone else like.
>>85932397
yeah religions really always been about the spread of ideologies through fear. it's not a bad thing, though. people need something to live by. i've heard some people say that without jesus, there would be nothing forcing them to be a good person. the afterlife that comes with the ideology is just kind of a bonus. i guess that's why christianity and buddhism took off.
>>
>>85932441
Not particularly fear, though fear is a tool that religions which aggressively proselytize might use

>early 20s is way too early to say that your life has been a failure
I don't think it's been a failure, I just want to know. Even if I could come back after death with the knowledge, I don't think I would because just knowing or even just the experience would be enough. My entire life and yours have been leading up to this climactic or anti-climactic end with a huge mystery being solved, and I kind of want to spoil it for myself. Is it selfish? I guess. But extremely depressing? Not at all, I don't have a great list of accomplishments, but my life so far has been lackluster, not a failure, but just kind of "eh." Dying now while I'm young and loved and on my own terms and just knowing what'll come to everyone sounds like the best thing that'll happen to me.

>>85932418
Getting /fit/ seems like an unsustainable goal. Like drug addicts looking to be high forever. Eventually bodies fail and you become too weak or get too injured to work out. I did try the fit thing for a while after high school but the lack of money for a gym membership and the only access to equipment being at a friend's house (didn't like inviting myself to his house since his basement was almost always in use) I just kind of quit that too.
>>
>>85932590

or at least plot to make a cool one yourself?
>>
>>85929367
That'd be really tragic. You live a life of hardship and sorrow and then BECAUSE of that your afterlife is suffering.
>>
>>85932627
YES, but I'm really afraid of heights so it limits me. I was thinking suicide by cop after some extreme crazy shit but they might not kill me very quickly, so now I'm thinking about throwing myself into a particle accelerator or something like the large hadron collider. I'll probably just get real lazy and real drunk one night with a good album and pop one off though.

>In the East you had religions like Buddhism which promised that you'd cease to exist once you reached a point of perfect earthly peace, freed from the neverending hell of reincarnating into a miserable dirty world.

That's a bit wrong. There is the notion that our world is flawed, but only through our perception is it flawed. So if we cease to exist after death or are able to actively lose our viewpoint (by which I mean reduce the part of us that is "me" to just another experience) we attain freedom from suffering. Freedom from suffering is for all intents and purposes paradise, no matter where you attain it. The reincarnation stuff is a metaphor to illustrate how we replicate the patterns that we are from one moment to the next. You don't need to believe it to be a practicing buddhist. But you do need to believe it to be a religious buddhist, I guess.
>>
>>85932590

I can't "diagnose" you, because I don't know you, but I can speak for myself. When I was in my early 20s (30 y/o now), my identity wasn't formed. I frequently was unhappy and had thoughts about ending it all (nothing serious). Mood swings and melancholy. What you describe is different, but I think comes from the same source: When you're 20, although you're not a teenager anymore, you're basically still a teenager. Some people take longer to get a foothold in "reality" whatever that may be to that person. At that age you think your life should be this great thing. Here's the news: 99% of your life will be "eh", in the sense that extraordinary things only happen very seldom, by definition. Also, you're fucking 20. How many people have accomplished something extraordinary at 20? Just appreciate the little things, lose yourself in them and dissolve and you've lived a full, and good life.

That's kind of what I'm getting at here. If I live for 100 years of "eh", why not skip to that 100th year of "wow?" I don't feel depressed or worthless, just rogue and spontaneous. I mean, think about, all these things in life you have to avoid because they cause cancer but once you have cancer you can smoke and eat all the microwaved foods you want. I think the same way about death. Life really starts at death.
>>

You ignored the last part of my post or I didn't make it clear enough. You're young, so you ignore the little things. Those little things get more important and beautiful when you get older and bothered to pay attention. You can train yourself to appreciate these things but with a young monkey mind I know that can be hard. As a young person, everything seems to need to have a punchline or an end result that's "worth it". That's because you don't have any experience.

Some people say that "the journey is the reward" is bullshit. Well, those people never even tried.

I'm 30. Listen dude, I'm not saying that what I'm saying is "the bees knees", as you and people your age would put it. But I meditate since I was about 24 years old and let me tell you, it really gives you another perspective on things. It's basically appreciation: the exercize. It's true that God laughs at all your plans and thoughts and so should you.

Not being able to appreciate things for just existing is the result of either a "young" mindset where results and evaluation are overvalued or mental illness like depression.
