It's pretty subtle, but there's some stuff hinted in there. Someone also posed a direct question about this on the blog, and Taeshi just dodged it with a coy "HMMMM" instead of actually answering.

I think it will end with them realizing that once they were mature, they were good for each other, perfect, in fact, but nothing can change the past, nothing can take back the things they said and did to each other, and that will make it impossible to be together

That will be the bittersweet paradox: if only they had met later in life, when they were both more mature and emotionally stable, instead of meeting as kids and having to endure each other's immature and demented growing pains, they could have been great together

It's easy to see it as blatant pandering because that's exactly what the comic was (still is?) becoming. Namely by focusing on Paulo (Taeshi's favorite character), Paulo, Paulo, all the time. It felt to me like Taeshi was inventing new shit to keep him in the spotlight.

This is one of the biggest fuckups of the comic. All this time with drama-bomb Lucy gone could have been spent fleshing out some very flat characters in interesting ways. Instead it turned into The Paulo Show because it's clear Taeshi is a very limited writer.

I liked the Augustus chapter, save for the part about Alejandro STILL being super pissed after literally years. He seemed the type to have already gotten impatient and rage on the kids on his own after a while. Taeshi should have either done that or just left that story thread hidden for the rest of the series.

But yeah, the writing hasn't been too great since Lucy left, probably because the characters not central to the "will they/wont they" aspect haven't been developed very well to fill the plot.

Daisy had some great developments back in Volume 1, but she's been pretty much a side character ever since, save for some glorified filler-esque stuff which didn't really elevate her again. I would have rather seen more stuff about her/Abbey's secret doubts on their relationship while they continue to appear outwardly fine with one another.

Paulo has had some good focus, except that he's been treated more as just a vehicle for the audience to witness a few interpersonal interactions without much actual insight into the characters' thoughts.

Meanwhile, Mike's basically been Flanderized into the wuss that Paulo used to exaggeratedly tease him about being. He's way too timid and passive now.

Taeshi/Suitcase, if you're reading this, I recommend the following:

Stop with the filler arcs. Shining the spotlight on other characters is fine, but you should really actually develop them instead of showing flashbacks.

>2) Stop building stories with just progression of events in mind. The biggest example I can think of is when Paulo got in the car crash and Lucy secretly visited him in the hospital while he was still unconscious. It felt pretty clear that the whole thing was written as an excuse just to have Lucy make a brief appearance. How about showing Paulo's dad worrying about him, like at all? It's the little things like that that made the older stories feel like they were taking place in a world of their own instead of a cartoon drama on the internet.

I liked the early chibi watercolours, when they had the darker outlines. I think it was a good marriage of her colouring talent with the cleaner linework of her chibi designs. The early watercolours with the more humanlike designs had some really ugly body proportion mistakes from time to time.

Late pencil/early digital era was best era. Both in artwork and storytelling.
