I disagree. The show despite not being about romance, nailed a lot of principles and was overall executed pretty great in NWMM; particularly thanks to Dipper and Pacifica's interactions.

Short as it was it left open a ton of promising groundwork and showed that it could be more than just a one trick pony if Hirsch would've led more out of it, which is all the more commendable taking into account how out of right field it was for both of them.

Secondly, you contradict yourself, since Mabel is an insert for Alex's sister, as well as one of the most coddled characters in the history of fiction.
Besides, Mabel is so naive and impulsive, if anything Pacifica would drag her into her world of vanity and self obsession and ultimately corrupt what positive aspects Mabel has.
Dipper and Pacifica is spades better, as the two at least see eachother as equals, and Dipper has a better chance of bringing out the best in Pacifica than Mabel could ever hope to have.
The only actual reason Mabifica has a fanbase is the combined circlejerking of horny teenagers who want/make lewd fanart, and tumblr tweens who'll like anything gay because it's trendy.

More like if you were going to evaluate this as a romance plot it would be shit since it's based on a part of one episode and that's it, the brief interaction they have later there's no particular aknowledgement or chemistry there, and mostly they just really despised each other.

I like Padippica, but the only GF ship that got any focus or development was Wendip, and most of that just made me dislike the canon version of that ship because Dipper was a little faggot about it (in fan works Wendip is fine). I preferred the Padippica interaction too but no romance was best, they are 12 year olds and all the crush plots they did have were retarded and cringey. Not the show's strong point. Not most shows' strong points honestly.

Here's the thing too, with most shippers it's just about your personal fetishes, not the writing.
