It's not dead! Yes! Now I wait patiently to hear who is playing Deadman and Swamp Thing.

Dark Universe book written by a competent writer when?
>>
Only thing I'm really worried about is if it gets shoehorned into the DC movie universe. Shove Enchantress shit in it.

Not really new news. They've been serious about this movie for a while, and now that Shazam is not moving to actual reality (not that it might not, just that the hope of it coming out soon is pretty much not anywhere at the moment) -- so it's important to DC to get their magical/supernatural vision out there with Dr Strange coming out this year.

I actually think this would have been a better movie as the second in the DECU versus SS.
>>
>>85869368
The first three arcs of JLD were OK - they should have spent more time on Books of Magic and developed that a bit more. The main problem was being stuck with and having to deal with The Cereal King's stupid idiotic waste of time meaning reset-button of Trinity War/FE.

Lemire did a decent job. I know people don't like him on team books and I personally found the first arc of JLU to be pretty idiotic, it was saddled with the same problems a lot of people were saddled with which was pretending that these heroes didn't know each other or knew anything about one another, plus the idea of needing to create an original Canadian hero was, at best, pretty stupid. That all said, I though the arc he wrote was fine, it had originality, just didn't use the team that well.

>>Zatanna wont wear her classic magician outfit but instead some Chris Angel getup

I don't know. WB gave Harley booty shorts and fishnets, Enchantress was pretty much naked, Katana was showing off her belly and they gave Wonder Woman a halter and skirt with bare legs. Zatanna's outfit isn't that bad considering it's basically a magician outfit.
>>
>>85874897
Idk, man.

There's that ONE anon on here who always talks about how 'outdated' her outfit is, every time she's brought up. Always makes me worried that he/she is a covert WB employee or something.
>>
>>85874960
Outdated in the sense that magicians aren't that popular anymore? It's still a recognizable look that connotes 'magic' to casuals.
>>
>>85875058
Also it looks nice.
>>
>>85875098
I don't see why they shouldn't do it. It's not like it's some weird spandex costume that would translate poorly to film. It's a fucking female magician's outfit, it's just normal clothing.

>>85874897
But that absolutely sounds like they'd give her some Chris Angelesque gear versus her classic look. All those redesigns you just mentioned were grunged up "realistic" iterations of their other costumes. Showing skin isn't the problem, being a cliche Magician is.
>>
So how will they translate Zatanna's powers to screen? It's easy to see what she means when she talks backwards in comics since you can just read it backwards.
>>
>>85869808
your threshold for OK sets a pretty low bar those are bad comics with shitty art.

I really dont give a fuck if shes black as long as they keep the personality and costume.

Unlike in comics racebending in films is fine unless the character absolutely has to be a certain ethnicity you take the actor you think has an acting style best suited to that role.

Only member of the jld that has to be a certain ethnicity is john.

>>85875367
Generally they just say it and let the audience try and work it out later.

Im more interested to know what sort of powerlevel she will have she does not really have an easily defined limit. Stick to combat and they can probably manage but when she starts turning whole audiences into animals its a bit less clear.

You know what at this point i dont even care if john slings spells we seem to be getting a return to form judging from his dcyou and rebirth im just so glad to have proper constintine in comics again i can just tolerate spellslinger in film.

Im guessing this film will be used to tease and guage intrest for the captain marvel film (well as much as i dont like the name change i cant hold calling it shazam against them here considering marvel has theres out soon (well i suppose they have been changing names on titles for ages but they will probably change his as well))

That has nothing to do with Marvel. They legally can't title a movie "Captain Marvel" even if the character was named that in it.

>Supes' joy, the technically exellent framing, and the amazing score bring it together so well.
That shit was exactly what was basic.
He had the actor smile or the first time in the movie, played some uplifting Zimmer strings, and switched to a warm color pallet.

That's not even actual film student level technique. That's film CAMP techniques I got taught at fifteen years old.

The first flight scene you guys praise has all the ""subtle"" emotional manipulation of that Ikea lamp commercial from years ago minus any irony.

>>
>>85879089
>never said this
No, I said it. Sarcastically. Hence the quotes. But since you didn't seem to get that I'll state it plainly.

Snyder's filmmaking style never grew past his roots in commercials and music videos. He relies entirely too much on color and score to create mood, and he does so in the most cliched and trite ways possible so that if you're even vaguely in the know of what the cues he uses mean it just comes off as kind of gross and boring.

It's elementary.

>>85879112
I made one shitty student film that didn't translate well to digital format and fuck if I can find it. It's probably buried in my parents' attic or something.

Superman is too melancholy in the films, he is not a symbol of hope and strength, there is too much personal conflict and strife injected into his character. This does not necessarily make the movies inherently bad but it makes them bad Superman adaptations
>inb4 muh new direction, expanding the character
I'm all for that... in some comics stories or even down the line in a JL film or Superman sequel if I want a Superman film to restart a franchise I want one where I come out of the theatre feeling joyful and hopeful, otherwise I just don't want the character on the big screen

I read the five collected trades all in one batch, about 1.5 years after reading Trinity War/Forever Evil as two trades (the paperback of JL and hardcover of the 7 FE). I consider them crap and idiotic. If you want a rank, I'd rate them a 1 overall, with some beats a 2, 2.5 and highly uncreative. I'd rate Aquaman's first arc as a 3 and I'd rate the first JLD arc as a 3.

JLD never really hits a 4, but has beats that do hit a 4, even a 5 (all the Swam Thing stuff and House of Mystery stuff for example).

So by my criteria, OK.

DC hasn't done anything in the past five years in the prime universe that was better than a 5, so NO my bar is not low.

Tynion is over-rated, FYI.

del Toro is only a producer because that was in his original contract and now that the project is moving forward again he retains that title. He probably won't do anything for it that he hasn't already done.

Gilio has very few writing credits (he's primarily worked as an actor according to his credits), but has probably been working uncredited. It's hard to say whether he'll be any good.

Liman is a surprisingly solid director. Looking over his resume I can't identify a single movie I've fully disliked, and I've seen most of them without realizing they were directed by the same guy. If Edge of Tomorrow 2 happens in the same timeframe he'll go with that over JLD, no question. You don't turn down Tom Cruise.

Not him, but Morrison's Action became iffy after it left the Golden Age. Best of the New 52 is:

Aquaman (Johns)
Animal Man (Lemire)
Green Arrow (Lemire)
Green Lantern (Johns)
Justice League (Throne of Atlantis, Forever Evil)
Superman (Johns)
Swamp Thing (Snyder)
Wonder Woman (Azz)

Though I've been out of the loop for the last few years. Consistently best Superfamily book was actually Supergirl. Pak's Action Comics showed promise until it ditched the Golden Age social activist stuff for that dumb shadow monster plot. I enjoyed Lois and Clark, but I think a lot of that's nostalgia and the novelty of having Pre-Crisis Superman back; current Action Comics under Jurgen's has his same awful pacing from Death of Superman. I think Johns's Superman run gets overlooked due to Romita's spotty art. I've just read the latest issue, but Flash, after five years finally seems to have found a good writer, though the Convergence tie-ins were also really good (Speed Force and Flash). Convergence, in general, had a lot of really entertaining tie ins, such as Superman's and Swamp Thing's.

>Prefers Johns Superman to Morrison
That third arc felt like he was back to JLA tier writing and Morales actually came through pretty hard on the art

They made him look like Chris because he died same time period?

This is great DC news. It would be cool to get a sneak peak of Black Adam or Captain Marvel in a cameo sense. Kind of like Batman in suicide squad. 3 or 4 minutes tops.

Morrison's Action Comics got too weird, making it difficult to recommend. I'd have little compunction with lending Johns's Superman out.

>>85879932
There are actually people who don't like Lemire's Green Arrow? That was the best Green Arrow since Grell.

Why?

So Superman also couldn't fly and didn't have heat vision right?

Hope WB will learn from their editing errors.

Lemire's Green Arrow was pretty bad, it had the potential to be good, but wasn't. It suffers from Lemire's style of writing for the trade and while The Outsiders were a neat concept he never truly did anything interesting with them, he made a lot of faceless mooks that get beat up in "epic spreads", hell, the shield guys aren't even worth a mention, their leader jobs so hard too ugh. His Shado sucked(I shouldn't really hold it against him since Shado is always badly written outside of Grell anyway) and he changed Ollie's backstory in some convoluted mess with his father surviving and training him in secret(oh and being an archer is a family thing by the way, he inherited that from his father) just so he can show up in the present and then 2 issues later he dies in a stupid heroic sacrifice moment in which Lemire and Sorrentino didn't communicate well and while the arrow is in mid flight, Robert travels half a mile in 0.5 seconds and jumps in front of it. Don't even get me started on his last arc, after we get teases of this cool as Dragon character, we learn that he's a whinny "muhh dady" bitch and despite being an amazing martial artist he gets beat by literally the power of friendship. Oh and the art is no good, yeah Sorrentino can do some creative paneling and I think people don't talk enough about his versatility(see his flashback scenes, those looked stylish as fuck) but it is painfully obvious that he is a tracer and his characters are really stiff.

I'm the person that made the initial comment. I consider Morrison's 19 issues that make up that arc to be pretty brilliant but flawed by both the art and other aspects. I also have very high standards. I know fucking people all over the internet give crap A- or 8/10, or such shit, but I don't. My 5 is probably most other people's 7 minimum.

See here's where my point is made for me. Throne of Atlantis was crap on a low salt cracker. Forever Evil was dull, warmed-over reboot button fodder of ideas that couldn't sustain a bad season of Star Trek Voyager.

Supergirl was laughably bad. Like anything else, it had moments, such as the relationship/friendship between Banshee and Kara, but that's like praising Lobdell for three panels in a 10-12 issue run.

Because he doesn't want to. They offered him either JLD or Pacific Rim 2 to direct and he chose Pacific Rim 2.

Why are you confused? He likes JLD so obviously he likes garbage.
