The first few episodes are pretty weak, and most would recommend skipping ahead to Mirror Gem/Ocean Gem though you should probably watch at least a few episodes before watching them, like Giant Woman.

It doesn't really start to get good until the Return, but it's a bad idea to skip right to that episode with no context.

I'll do this by point instead of writing a paragraph as to why I love it

- Great song (I especially love AJ's singing, and thought Estelle was good as well. I like her high pitch singing, though I can understand not liking it)
- Great guest animator
- The fight scenes with stevonnie and the holo pearl were VERY fluid and well animated.
- The message of the episode, that we all have problems and we can't just ignore them was good and an important message for kids (the main demographic for this show)
- I also thought the parallel between ruby/sapphire and connie/steven was interesting

It hasn't been renewed for season 6 yet. But that's fine, because we're currently only in season 4, with season 5 already confirmed as well. People are freaking out even though the only reason we had seasons 4 and 5 renewed at once was because the show was originally planned with 52 episodes per season. So we had season 1A/2A and then season 2 was confirmed, and halfways thru that we got told that season 2 was splitting into 2 26 episode seasons, and that following seasons would follow this convention as well.

Basically expect it to be renewed sometime near the end of season 4

To be fair, there's a big difference between pandering a topic and a topic being relevant.

Garnet being a fusion of 2 aliens that have similarities to human females is a relevant topic.

Sitting down and saying "LOOK HOW GAY THESE 2 ARE" is pandering. The show tends to avoid doing that though, and at worst you'll just have Ruby and Sapphire being excited about their relationship that just happens to be gay.

Honestly though, I wish the gems had a more interesting way of showing battle damage. Like if their bodies became "cracked" or broken and started shedding bits of light from wounded areas. If they don't do anything about it they shed enough light to totally destabilize their form and poof.

I think I was confused by some of the visuals

Do Ruby and Sapphire just exist in a bluish void or was that metaphorical? The butterflies representing thoughts works but I think the phase of having a thought run amok should have been accompanied by more stressful or warped versions of the butterflies. As it went they just sorta bunched up into an incoherent ball, and having Estelle calmly singing over it just didn't convey a feeling of distress

Now when it got to Steven's freak out, with the colors and visions of the actual things he feels guilt over confronting him, that was much better

So really the main duo song is where I think it lost me. The other bits before and after we're pretty good

It was metaphorical I believe, and it's not really supposed to be about distress. It's more like, Ruby had a problem yeah and it was freaking her out but Sapphire was being swarmed with all these problems (probably because her future vision causes her to look forward in time and see all the possible problems that ruby may have, and it suffocates her. At least that was my interpretation)

So Garnet was trying to show Stevonnie that yeah, your components both have their problems, and they might not be equal, but they can't be ignored no matter how big or small they are because the strength and stability of the fusion depends on harmony.

I think it makes sense that Fusions have a sort of mental space that Steven can enter, as we've clearly seen this in 'Chille Tid'.
It wouldn't suprise me that Stevonnie entered a similar mindset with Garnet via meditation, although it's questionable whether this is the case or if the whole scene was just an excuse for music, morals and cool animation.

Pic related, does this mean that Connnie has technically seen and met Ruby and Saphire now? It's interesting that in the mindscape, the fusions and components can exist seperatly and observe each other.

If anything, the episode answers a long standing question. A fusion (or the parts of it) doesn't gain all the knowlege of the individuals, seeing as Stevonnie's 'Connie' side didn't know Bismuth until the 'Steven' side spoke up. Or how Steven didn't know what was bothering Connie the whole time until the stress kicked in.
So now we have confirmation that in 'Cry For Help' Garnet would not have picked up on Pearls true intentions.
