Rather than have the entire plot about career day, Tom spying on Marco and Star, Star coming to terms with her future etc... just have the whole episode start off at the point where Tom's got Marco on the wheel and then get to the ping-pong. And from there on out it's just straight dialogue and character interactions. Ping-pong, banter, ping-pong, personal confessions/exposition, all that jazz. End it with them coming to the point of rationality they reached and preparing to leave for Star. Maybe even have a scene of Tom switching into his suit because "muh appearance" (he does visibly and blatantly change attire in Nefcy's version).
I'm just a huge sucker for character study and minimalism, it probably wouldn't work the way this show is styled but they have been trying new and different things this season.

Very hit and miss, just like season 1 was.

Its suffering from the fact that the season 1 finale removed "the forces of evil" temporally from the show, so many episodes lack fights with monsters and interdimensional shenanigans for the time being, that should eventually change as Ludo's plot moves foward tho.

The season is young and I feel it can only get better from here.

Honestly it feels like it has a lot of the issues that season 1 has, which is sort of disappointing to me because I was hoping for noticeable improvement. But a lot of episodes also feel pretty much the same quality-wise to season 1, and I don't really feel there's a huge difference on that front. So it's just...decent, which is what I'd say for season 1 too outside of its potential and a few standout episodes.

If I didn't quit watching then I'm not quitting now, is the most negative way of putting it. Although I do think 2 seems to have more of an idea what it's doing with its larger plot than 1 did, which kind of felt like they were throwing everything at the wall and seeing what'd hit. So I can see why some people, including me for some aspects of it, are disappointed that the things the show is choosing to focua on most from season 1 aren't the things they were especially interested in, but I think that's the natural result of the show feeling all over the place from the start.

Overall, 7/10-ish, okay show, has a ton of potential to be great but hardly ever capitalizes on it. I do really like it though

Enjoyable, cute buddy moments between Star and Marco. Nice jokes, their delivery feels tighter to me this season. I'm actually liking this A and B plot approach, feels like a good compromise for the 11~minute average.Both cases have given some awesome spotlight episodes as seen with "Ludo in the Wild"(Ludo's great in general this season) and "On the Job".

My main complaint so far though, is that I'm growing impatient with the lack of some good old fashioned evil fighting with Star and Marco. Hopefully Goblin Dogs may remedy that.

Enjoying it greatly. Then again I'm one of the few people, that after 10 months realized was getting too hyped thanks to all the fan fics and theories we threw around. Before S2 began I repeatedly told myself to lower my hype and keep myself in check. And it worked, I'm enjoying what the show throws at me and not hating it because it doesn't live to the ridicoulusly high expectations we set for ourselves.

That's a pretty good point in retrospect. I think the reason so many people were behind the idea of him disappearing was that it was just such a potentially odd outcome for a cartoon with the whole magical shenanigans at school. Star vs. has done that a number of times, where it just touched on something in such an unexpected manner that it made it automatically interesting. Which I suppose is a benefit of having a creator with a specific goal in mind for the series, albeit under Disney alterations to make it more accessible.

Add on to that the reality that a lot of people would rather avoid Alfonso having any speaking time in episodes and you can see the strings of logic and wish fulfillment crossing over.

Personally I would have liked to have seen him come back, but with baggage from his 'marriage', sort of like he'd gone through all the trials and tribulations of marriage in such a short time and it played on his mind. Even as a minor off hand joke or two, it could have made for a solid setup joke that we as the viewer get to fill in that blank space of time when he was with the queen.

since if Marco dies, Arm dies, they agree to work together, and then end up being welcomed into a monster gang. We get some first hand insight into how fucked it is being a monster on Mewni (like, the royal family owning every single acre of fertile land, meaning monsters can't just take up agriculture, and it being forbidden to go hunting in any of the good locations without the kings permission, so their only choices are to live off bog slime, or steal from the king.)

Everybody circled here is a returning character who's gotten a significant focus in at least 1 episode in season 2. (Or confirmed to get one on Sept 12 in Pony Head's case.)

That makes it a safe bet that Queen Butterfly, Miss Heinous, Miss Skullnick, Janna, Jackie, Mr and Mrs Diaz, StarFan13, Jeremy and oddly enough the Quest Buy sloths will each get significant screen time in at least 1 episode.

On the other hand, characters like Sabrina and Brittney who got removed from the season 1 version of the group shot are probably not going to be more than background scenery. Likewise for Ludo's former minions other than Buff Frog and Boo Fly, who will be lucky to even be that.

THANK YOU. "Starstruck" may possibly be the worst episode of the series. The SvtFoE writers/board artists really have a strange sense of humor if they actually thought it'd be funny or compelling.

I'm just waiting for Queen Butterfly, more Mewni exploration (as well as the other dimensions shown in "St. Olga's"), Ludo's rise in power, the new characters in the S2 intro, and Queen Butterfly. I don't find the human characters that interesting or appealing.

This show really does a poor job mixing lore and comedy while still keeping it entertaining. I'd take WOY S3 instead of another mediocre season of this in a heartbeat!

The problem here isn't exactly them being filler but more just overall uninteresting. Star Vs' second season lacks a good draw.

You could easily tell someone what to look forward to regarding season 1. It made its premise and strengths clear with the occasional plot-roadbump to spice things up. To help this point, whenever someone used to come into these threads and ask what to expect, people's answers usually averaged to the same understanding of what the show was good for, usually leaning to an overall positive reception.

I'm not exactly sure what strength to be expecting from season 2 so far that's so interesting or even mildly good. It lacks that good, evident "something" element that isn't merely a few leftover hopes from the prior season to keep a person coming back every week.

I think that even the "low jokes" are, on average, pretty funny. But this is a completely empiric opinion based on the average numbers of times I laugh at season's two episodes compared to the still funny season one. Comedy is incredibly subjective though.

I agree that the Star/Young Moon connections are pretty dumb, and I've never liked the whole MoonToffee shipping. For some reason, the few fans who discuss Queen Butterfly always expect direct parallels to her past and Star right now. Just let her have her own backstory!

They shattered the formulaic 'incompetent monsters attack and lose in a big flashy wand-powered fight' approach. I MASSIVELY RESPECT THIS. Do you have any idea the guts and skill it takes to turn a show so sharply?

Once again, the deep theme is, 'actions have consequences'. People were all like 'lame, she got her wand back'....but she really didn't. The repercussions of the S1 season finale are in every show, in every thing.

The autists don't get it, but holy crap, this show is the best cartoon since Phineas and Ferb, and is MILES ahead of things like Adventure Time and Steven Universe.

This post, I like it. I'm moderatly confident (wishful?) that once the show it's done and completed people binge watching it for the first time are going to enjoy a lot more this first half of season 2 being so different, showing that Storm the Castle and Toffee's plan had long lasting effects both on the characters and on the episodes themselves.
I'm enjoying it for sure: can't wait for more juicy plot and lore, but even episode with character development is still a treat.
