People are traumatized by different things, some more easily than others.

Steve grew up a weakling, given his age, through the great depression.

He has been beaten, humiliated, rejected, you name it.

Suddenly, he is bestowed the most perfect body on Earth and sent to war.

His experiences in the war, a kid who is now built like a god, crushing men with his bare hands and becoming a famous hero would have never traumatized him. He probably got a lot of satisfaction from the experience.
