I'd prefer keeping Pod, but I think it could be interesting if Toni finds out that she doesn't feel the same way about Aikku as she did about Pod or else Aikku doesn't return her feelings. Like, their primary connection was through Pod and now they're incompatible.

Ewing isn't writing it as a criticism of AMERICA FUCK YEAH and patriotism in general, but rather an exploration of it and how it can be used. And perhaps, a kind of celebration of it. That's at least the impression I'm getting from it. For example, he describes Thunderbolt Ross as the most "traditionally conservative" of the team and he'll probably butt heads with some of the others from time to time, but I doubt he'll be written like the retarded lovechild of Bill O'Reilly and Trump.
