VeggieTales was really quite good. They get a lot of jokes thrown at them for being a Christian show, but they expressed their worldview in the midst of actually enjoyable storytelling and writing. Which is something obviously lacking when you watch a lot of actively Christian aimed media.

This.

I grew up as the son of a Southern Baptist preacher.
And thats really the issue with a lot of christian entertainment.
Thats where they start.

"THIS IS A CHRISTIAN THING okay so what next"

Its even more evident in Christian music.

If something a a part of your life in a significant way and means a lot to you theres no reason the art connected to that should suck entirely.

But so often it does for Christian stuff because they're more interested in "good vibes" and marketing.
>>
The Rumor-weed one was really intense. Especially when LarryBoy went subterranean and there was a giant weed lady there... and his butler accidentally unplugged the computer at a critical moment.

Did anyone else watch the 2D Larryboy cartoons? Like, the one where the guy was in love with a lamp?
>>
Buzz saw louie saves christmas was what got me thinking as a kid that I dont need all the hot shit on tv, just be humble and live within your means, and being with family at christmas is the best part.

>and his butler accidentally unplugged the computer at a critical moment.

I thought communications got cut because the walls in the sewer were too thick so the raido stopped working.

He's mixing up the Giant Fib with the Rumor Weed.

Larryboy had me on the edge of my seat more then any of the Batman cartoons did.

His gun stopped working for some reason and the rumor weed beat the brine out if him. As a little kid, that bothered the hell out of me. I wanted Larry Boy to defeat her. But I guess that had to happen so they could have the proper ending.

I loved those old veggie tale VHS tapes, they were so comfy. I had the David and Goliath one, the one where they went to space, and the Daniel in the Lions den. I remember loving those tapes a lot, as much as I loved Nickelodeon shows or Cartoon Network's shows.

I really like the early computer animation of VeggieTales. It's not off putting, but still rudimentary enough to be comfy. The cartoon episode about the angry eyebrows was pretty weird from what I remember.

It was also strangely trippy, I'm about 80% sure Seth Rogen was influenced by it.

Veggietales is a surprisingly comfy entrance into absurdist humor. What's great is that having it be a Christian thing wasn't constant reverence or 'it's in everything you do' it's more in line with what Jesus did with his stories, he made fables to explain his points.

You never see the parable of the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son essentially point to any one God, because it's implicit, and so many stories miss just telling good lessons and an interesting story in favor of explicit signalling.

I think that's why even when I stopped believing, I never got bitter with Christianity or just 'oh I don't like what it's doing' it just didn't connect with me personally as a be-all end all ruleset or dogma. I still appreciate how much of our culture is affected by it as opposed to a Hinduism or Islam affected culture, and am glad, but the origins don't necessarily need to be present in all aspects for me.

This might sound like a bad anecdote, but one of my 3D animation teachers at school did some of the early work for Veggietales. He said that the CEO would visit the studios sometimes, dancing around in his socks and gleefully humming Christian hymns in close proximity of the animators. It pissed them off, which is probably why he left.

With how I grew up, the only person in my family that I meant that was ever outwardly religious was my grandma, and even then it was only because she had a collection of Angels. So, I never learned about a lot of religious stories until I was like, 14, and even then I still don't know much about them.
I only watched Veggietales because I thought it was good shit.

It's such a weird occurrence when you think about it.

It's a show about talking food, with religious undertones, and it's actually well put together and reasonably funny.

Bless whoever made these things. They really went the extra mile.

Only somewhat related, but I went to a Christian college. While that was a mistake and most of it was pretty insufferable, the animation department was pretty awesome and our professor was cool as fuck and honestly looked just like Snoop Dogg. My church was randomly cleaning out their old building and came across a Veggietales poster signed by nearly the entire Big Idea staff. Nobody there wanted it so I gave it to my professor and it was pretty fun just how stoked he was.

Oh man do I feel that.
My church put up posters had this whole to do about the sequel.

>"Anon! we're going to see gods not dead 2 this thursday you should come you like movies"

I think I was in a bad mood that day and called it a shallow strawman and an affront to film.
Or at least something to that effect.

I do teach a sunday school class to teens.

What exactly is the issue with the god's not dead movies? I've never bothered to watch them because I felt like I'd be seeing nothing but theology debates and I'm guessing it ends with the teacher seeing the way and becoming a christian or something silly.
