The lowest common denominator of all their relationship's incarnations is being fuck buddies . Sometimes it's more than that, but it's always at least that.
In a similar way, Lois and Clark are at least a couple if they're together at all. So the Crux of their relationship is an old-fashioned romance.
Until DC tows it's writers in line and sets some basic status quo about who characters are or what their interest/relationships in another characters are, we have to work with common denominators to be able to say anything FOR SURE about two character's relationship over multiple storylines and writers.

So, in the issue is that, unless it's a particularly imaginative and solid writer who has an understand of not only Batman and his current beau but also of their past relationship to build on, most Batman x Anybody bits end up feeling samey where he goes through a tsundere arc and then goes backwards through it due to guilt:
