I like Cullen Bunn. Harrow County is great. Haven't read any of his cape stuff but I heard people liked his Sinestro.
>>
>>85788102
I guess

maybe McNiven's really up himself after working with Millar

>>85788136

>/mu/
>>
>>85788153
doubtful, they know the movies don't affect the comic sales

of course it's possible that that 40% female audience is real and the reason so few people buy comics is simply that the older, whiter, maler demo is just dying off from poor life choices (they are right in the heart disease/type 2 diabetes/cancer zone at their age) and masking the real gains

which would mean that you might be correct
>>
>>85788193
His Sinestro was fantastic, but is all I've read by him. I highly recommend it though, even if vendetti just completely ignores it in his Green Lantern run now.

They're separating off the X-Men after IvX.

Mutant Universe
It will last for like 2 years until they make the "Welcome Home" event in 2018.
>>
>>85788303
This would sound plausible except IvX wouldn't be finished by January 2017 yet.
>>
>>85788136
There's really nothing wrong with Bunn, usually.
He gets, and deserves, a lot of flack for Fearless Defenders, but since then he's done a fine job on Sinestro, Magneto, and Uncanny X-Men.
Not sure about his non-cape stuff since I'm a pleb.
>>
>>85788387
they don't really wait for events to finish anymore before launching their new shit
>>
>>85788418
Didn't stop them with Secret Wars or Death of X. There'll just be loads of boxes that say 'FIND OUT HOW IN INHUMANS VS X-MEN!' because Marvel don't care
>>

IvX won't be over in january, the #1 chapter doesn't come out until December.

bullshit, 99% of things are X-Men crap. It was clearly done by some butthurt Xfags. If it was true IvX, it would be split 50/50 with the Inhumans.
>>
>>85788652
Death of X was planned that way, it is a conjoined book and they would have to push back both the X and I line to do it first. Plus they X books have been setting the scene for what happened in it.

>Civil War II
Is another delay victim, Bendis keep rewriting, probably because every could see his shit coming a mile way. They are clearly scrambling to change the ending just like they change the name of Ulysses.

As far as we know, that was (possibly) pushed by editor Mike Marts with Remender attached as a writer. Both of them don't work at Marvel anymore, so it's likely that the faction who didn't want this unless it was massively reworked won. Anon, I'm one of the few inhumans fans on the board. I've liked them before any of the big, poorly handled push they've gotten in the past few years, but the inhumans absolutely do not deserve equal space on the bingo. Until the big push, they were mostly supporting characters with the occasional limited series and some of the royal family members joining teams. It's also one of the few connections to the Fantastic Four I can cling to until they get brought back.

But the X-men were the biggest franchise at Marvel for over a couple decades. The Inhumans are the Royal Family, Ms. Marvel, Moon-Girl (who shouldn't even be there) and a handful of characters that Soule created in the past few years. The X-men are hundreds of characters.

Everyone at Marvel knows CWII is bullshit. Even Bendis. They were literally saying in interviews before it started that most events they spend years planning whereas this one they had to throw it together in a few months. They were practically forewarning people that it was going to be a mess. Most of the tie-ins are either just a passing reference to CWII then back to what they were already doing, or devoting the whole issue to straight up damage control.

I bet that once we get a The Untold Tale Story for this era, it'll be a whole lot of people from all sides bitching about having to deal with CWII.

>>
>>85791137
He, along with Quesada and maybe Jemas, saved Marvel in the early 2000s and turn the company into the powerhouse comic company it is today. With that record behind you, you're untouchable.

There's also the fact that he was the only one who could put books in the top ten during Rebirth month. We can give plenty of explanations why that happened, but investors only see numbers, and Bendis numbers are winners.

Bendis will always be the winner
>>
>>85791277

That being said, I never read Fearless Defenders so I dont know what the hate for that book is about.

That was actually from that short Namor ongoing from around the same time.
>>
>>85792297
>That being said, I never read Fearless Defenders so I dont know what the hate for that book is about.
A number of reasons.
The name, for starters. Beyond having Valkyrie and later Clea, it wasn't a Defenders book in any way, but calling it that was an editorial decision.
The villain wasn't interesting at all.
It was a followup to a mediocre Fear Itself spinoff and launched like 18 months too late.
The cast felt pretty random and was underutilized.

And of course, the absolute worst part of the series, Annabelle Riggs.
Her sole trait was lesbianism, and she quickly became the star of the book. By the end she was sharing Valkyrie's body, but thankfully this has been ignored.
>>
>>85787893
Oh this is gonna be something real stupid I know it
>>
>>85789728
The Inhumans might have become big if they'd gotten the movie, which this whole push was intended to lead up to.

The Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel push is just as blatant and almost as badly handled, but because she's going to get a movie, people will actually know who she is and the push will have been worth it.

With no Inhumans movie coming any time soon it looks like Marvel put all its promotional effort into a franchise that is never going to take off.

It took the X-Men a long time to become popular in a time when it was a lot easier for comics to become popular than it is now. They can't just manufacture popularity by telling us how important the characters are.
>>
>>85789607
The Inhumans aren't bad characters. But I don't think they're built for massive popularity. They're some of the purest Kirby characters of the Silver Age without the relatability Stan Lee usually added.

They remind me a lot of the Addams Family, they're aristocratic freaks who look down on normal humans. That's interesting, but that's a recipe for cult success, not family merchandising.
>>
>>85788303
If they do this

I'm done with Marvel

Did they learn nothing from Heroes Reborn?
>>
>>85794533
I think Heroes Reborn was actually a good idea. I mean the comics were shit, but they sold better than Iron Man or Avengers had sold in years, they wiped out all the failed retools of the early '90s and allowed all the characters to come back to 616 with good back-to-basics relaunches.

Of course those characters didn't have a management that was determined to destroy them.

This is probably the worst state the company has been in since Heroes Reborn...actually that had some interesting stuff in it, so its definitely worse

I'm not even angry...I just cannot give a fuck about this company so long as the current leadership is in charge.

Let's not pretend they don't have ANY good books.

But yes, the general state of the company is dreadful, and that isn't changing any time soon.

Yeah, Rob Liefeld is a fucking prick who won't stick to the contract.

The only reason it ended was because he walked off halfway through and the studio he'd set up to make it was no longer going to exist. Initial sales were high - consistently placing in the top 20, the rest of it being dominated by the X-Men with Spawn the only other contender - and subsequent sales to issue 6 (the last Liefeld issues of any of the 4 series) were consistently high, in fact right until the final issues they were still high.

The Heroes Return relaunch dominated the top 3 for two months running (#1 and #2, and #2 and #3 respectively) and even a year later Fantastic Four was still a high-selling title - one of the highest in the market. The rest were all still top 20, usually top 10.

That FF (and Spawn) fell off from being the market leader to almost nothing 20 years later is both a warning about the "Batman/Wolverine/Spider-Man sells" theory of comics that so many anons rely on (and publishers too) and an interesting case study, because it along with Iron Man, Avengers and Captain America went from cancellation-level sales in 1995/6 to being market leaders just three years later, positions they haven't really retained since, even though X-Men no longer dominate the top 20 (and especially not the top 10) and the majority of HR titles have settled back into middling sales, while everything is selling fewer copies across the market.

There's been something about FF that drove sales down for decades from an apparently untouchable high, but you have to wonder if, unlike the other HR titles, FF's recovery was simply a dead cat bounce - people were so shocked that FF of all things was now different/good that they bought it regardless of quality, then dumped it for the same reasons they always had.

tl;dr Heroes Reborn worked as a relaunch fantastically well for all titles, Heroes Return was a success too (if an unplanned one), there's nothing wrong with relaunches

>Of course those characters didn't have a management that was determined to destroy them.

They were literally outsourced to another company headed by Rob Liefeld because they had low sales. Let's not pretend anybody thought they'd be coming back to 616 anytime soon. If he hadn't thrown his toys out of the crib they'd have been gone a lot longer.

To be honest with you, Newscorp has a lot of publishing houses, it's possible (if this turns out to be a Mutant Universe) that FOX have finally bought the X-Men out. Be interesting to see what they think they're worth.

Apart from Vision nothing really stands out on what they're publishing right now. Ms. Marvel isn't bad, but its not like amazing or anything.

Marvel let go of their best writers and I don't see them coming back. They hired a bunch of hack web comic people and gave Bendis the reigns to everything.

Marvel died at the end of Secret Wars. nuMarvel isn't the same
>>
>>85788303

Didn't someone say Secret Wars was also about separating mutants too?
>>
>>85795051
It's what Remender was supposedly going to do but he left marvel
>>
>>85794937
Uncanny Avengers, New Avengers, Ultimates, Contest of Champions (now cancelled), Gwenpool, and Totally Awesome Hulk are also good.

>Marvel died at the end of Secret Wars
I fail to see how pre-SW Marvel was any different/less shitty than ANAD Marvel.
>>

oh SHIT

it's MU: Mystique UNLEASHED

or, no. No. Mysterio Unchained!

or maybe... Man-Thing UNCENSORED
>>

>Man-Thing UNCENSORED
unfortunately with marvel outlawing beefcake as well as cheesecake, this will never come to pass

>Marvel can't write a good Spider-Man for shit
Nigga, Joe Kelly has a Spider-Man/Deadpool ongoing right now. Conway is coming back to Spider-Man with RYV. Just because Slott is on Amazing Spider-Man doesn't mean that "Marvel can't write a good Spider-Man for shit."

And Marvel as a whole doesn't hate the X-Men or Fantastic Four. Blame Perlmutter and Alonso instead of umbrella-ing the fuck out of it.

Overrated.

Has-been.

Multicultural Universe. Just giving it a more appropriate title.

>Has-been.
Conway's Carnage is one of the best books either of the big 2 is putting out.
>>
>>85788193
His Aquaman was garbage
>>
Bunn is like the biggest wild card in comics.
You go from something like his Magneto, Sinestro or Hallow Country, to his Deadpool, Drax or Fearless Defenders. Rather have a 50/50 chance that his work would be good than a writer I know puts out crap.
>>
>>85789724
Super-Ego the Living Multiverse would be a bitching story, though.

Just let Morrison write it and give him total creative control.
>>
>>85787893
Clearly this is a movie about the Buddha Nature of dogs.
>>
>>85798503
No.
>>
>>85798694
he seems to get X-Men tho, so if this really is X-Related and he's promoted to X-Overlord that would be a welcome change from Lemire and Hopeless who need to GTFO ASAP
>>
>>85793716
I forgot about that. Stuart Moore's a pretty underappreciated writer. He's got, I think, two ongoings to his credit (Namor: The First Mutant and his Firestorm run after Dan Jolley's shitty one) and both are pretty damn good.
