Wasn't there a crossover with Lilo&Stitch or something.
>>
>>85784865
No, I don't think so. Funnily enough, Atlantis was meant to get a TV series like Lilo and Stitch did, but it got scrapped and three of the produced episodes were mashed together for a half-assed sequel. Shame because Atlantis was a fucking great movie.

One autistic thing that's always bothered me is the whole language thing:
1. Atlantean is supposed to be the psuedo indo-european language that all others are derived from
2. They speak Latin fluently(called Lingua Romae), despite likely never meeting Romans
3.They also speak French and Spanish fluently, which is a derivative of Latin which is a derivative etc. That's like saying a Roman would understand Esperanto
4. She has never met any other civilizations beyond her own. I know the whole "shepherd's journal" thing, but how the fuck did a medieval author travel hundreds of meters into the ocean without supertech?

Also the whole mistranslation of Iceland from Ireland using Nordic Runes to spell the english word literally does also bug me.
For a movie where the hero is a linguist and they do a lot of work involving creating the language and script, they really screwed the pooch for me in that respect.

Decent film though
>>
>>85786168
"Can I burrow in your wet hole?"
>>
I enjoyed this movie, but I can't think of it without seeing it as Stargate without the stargate.
>>
>>85786115
It's great. Literally the only problem with it is the plot hole concerning how long Kida and her father have been alive and the whole "white savior" (more like American Melting Pot Savior" shtick, but otherwise it's absolutely up there with the late Renaissance/post-Renaissance stories that went to weird and wonderful places (particularly Tarzan and TENG) while also sporting EXCELLENT animation and art design.

Also, they hired a linguist to make up Atlantean. All the jargon Milo spouts while talking about it? It's not gibberish, they had the guy explain how he put it together.

>Also, they hired a linguist to make up Atlantean
They also got Mike Mignola to design the submarines, if I recall correctly.
>>
>>85791947
I thought the point was that all of those major languages were derived from it, so they would understand and be able to adapt to them fairly easily (other than those weird cases where a word takes on a completely different meaning despite sounding similar, the term for which I can't remember). I mean, once you know C, C++ and Java and all those other languages are a lot easier to come into.
>>

>>
>>85795080
I don't buy it. If your talking about linguistic isolation on the scale of thousands of years, the drift would be much, much too great to be easily bridged. Like an Anglo-Saxon trying to understand modern English, only even harder.

There's no good linguistic explanation for it; it's just one of those handwaves that's needed to keep the plot going.
>>
>>85785394
She didn't do anything.
>>
>>85795687
She was a great piece of ass.

Plus she killed like 6 dudes by locking them in a room rapidly filling with water(not without reason mind you)
>>
>>85795653
I mean, there are linguists that go out and speak with isolated tribes with extremely unique languages for the first time. Milo did it in Movie Time, but he'd spent enough time with the language to be able to make the connections, and drive Kida down the right paths of thought until they understood each other.

One of my favourite movies as a kid. Used to watch it over and over again on video. Though it's a bit disappointing and when watched today and plot develops to fast. I will never forgive them for not going with the original trilogy plan. I would love to see the full, original plan for the story at least in a comic book version or something.

The tunnel into Atlantis was on the surface in the Shepherd's time. The actual journal casing for the Shepherd's Journal was created centuries afterwards when the book was in the hands of a monastery. It was originally a set of scrolls kept preserved by a crystal in the casing/tube that was incorporated into the spine

Kida or King I think, don't clearly remember. When Rourke takes the Power Source out of the city it is said that crystals' live extending powers won't work without it and the Atlanteans will soon die if it won't be reclaimed
>>
>>85811778
kida was already over 3000 years old wasn't she?
oh wait she's even older. the official Disney wikia states:
>Though Kida is roughly 8,500 - 8,800 years old (according to Milo), she physically resembles someone in their mid-late 20's.
>>
>>85811778
Does this have to do with reach or because it was taken away and put in a box that cut of the spiritual stuff off?
>>
I honestly wonder if people would have liked had Disney gone with a final design closer to Mignola's original artwork
>>
>>85812055
Don't know. But I recall Milo saying something like "if you'll take it away, they'll die" to Rourke, so I'd say it's about the reach. Or perhaps the combination of both. Still, the scene clearly shows that crystals need to "charge" themselves from the Source to prolong live and box or no box, I doubt it can reach to the other side of the world where Milo's friends are currently at. But who knows.

Machines with autopilot or human control, probably. They were fleeing back to the city to get inside the protective dome thing, along with the other sorts of vessels you can barely make out in the shot. Or perhaps they were just autonomous and escorting the other ships?

I liked the film well enough when it came out, but thought it was overstuffed for its running time, just look at all the side characters

>>
>>85831759
>>85803090
There was no Trilogy Plan, that's just something 4chan made up to rationalize how squished the movie seemed to be.

The primary cuts to the movie were a series of monsters along the journey on the Atlantean Highway. This included Squid Bats (flying Jellyfish-like creatures) that'd destroy the submarine which originally survived the Leviathan and you'd actually see them digest their victims in shadow form. Then there were the Lava Whales which made it into Atlantis 2, which were creatures that lived in the lava rivers and were mistaken for hot springs by the crew. Finally, that big bug you see in the montage originally had a full sequence that was Kida's original introduction with Milo stumbling upon them hunting the beast after being separated from the group after the fire fly scene.

Also, original prologue of the film focused on Vikings with the Journal seeking Atlantis out and getting destroyed by the Leviathan, but they went with showing Atlantis's fall to help get you more invested in the city and Kida.
>>
That character genuinely took like three points off of Atlantis' score. Holy shit was the attempt at comedy bad. Especially when every single one of the other characters managed to be funny without being retarded. He was clearly designed just for the kids to have a quirky character to laugh at, but not even kids like him.

I was about to explain how you're wrong, but then I was reminded of the Swedish/Norwegian futhark. The "s" and "R" runes are very similar, I'll give you that.

However, note that there is another "r" rune. If I recall, the difference between "r" and "R" are that the second was mostly used at the end of words and was spoken more like a Z. (So "thurisar" and "thurisaz" would sound the same.) I kind of doubt the vikings would have written or spoken Ireland as "Izland", but then I'm not that kind of scholar.

Eh, with Audrey I'd prefer something pretty much SFW. Like any mechanic chick, they're hottest when in their greasemonkey clothes. So for me, anything showing her off working on a machine and giving a nice view of her ass would be gravy in my book. Of course, if you'd prefer something more tasteful, by all means.

The film's set in early 1914, probably a few months before Archduke Ferdinand's assassination kicks the whole thing off. When Milo accuses Rourke of planning to take the power source and "sell it to the Kaiser", you get an idea of the political tensions at stake.
