Boy scouts, was a good time. If you don't mind living in the woods for a week or two, you can pretty much do whatever you want all day. most camps are built around waterfronts, which was my favorite part.

I was in a "travel camp" for a couple of summers. It was mostly overnight trips to nearby cities and/or amusement parks, but we did stay at a couple of sleepaway camp type places. For an indoorsy kid let me tell you those were awful. Give me a science museum any day.

but it's in the mountains where it's cool so it beat dying of heat in the suburbs

City kid here. Never been to camp. But I went to a school travel, where we stayed in some boyscouts cabins and did activities/visited the neighboor city in the day. We did burn marshmallows in the stove to pretend we were on a camp like in the movies with my bother.

Boy Scout camp, probably did it like 4 times. It was fun, but also had some pretty bad experiences. Like the time I Was in a fishing class and I found some kid's tackle box off the trail we were on. It looked as if it had been left there, and no one was around so I opened it up to find a name. The owner of said tackle box appeared seconds later and immediately accused me of trying to steal from it. I barely got any words out before he ran to our counselor like I'd just committed murder. The counselor could tell the kid was bullshitting and he didn't really care thankfully. The rest of the week in that fishing class, I tried to explain myself to the kid and appologize, but he just kept calling me a thief and scowled at me whenever I looked his way.

There were fun times though: roaming around the camp with the other boys and fucking around, telling ghost stories, playing ultimate frisbee, and even some of the merit badge classes could be fun. I both miss and resent those days.

Colin and Linus seem to be the oldest, it feels like they've been there a while and settled into almost adult roles in the community (while still being slightly oddball mid-to-late teens). Of course age is no actual indication of how long the campers have been there, as some will have arrived younger than others.

I think we can kinda discount Proto Kid when theorising, since he seems possessed/magical anyway is Neiman going the same way I wonder? If I had to ballpark a figure, I'd guess the camp has been running in its current form maybe 3-4 years, given the ages of the kids (as you've said), how long some of them appear to have been there and also the obvious fairly long gaps between arrivals.

Yeah, I mean that's the way you can look at it as a rational adult who understands to some extent socialising and human behaviour. But I don't think as a kid any of those things would have occurred to me.
