I was actually in Japan when they released new merchandise for Love Live in the UFO machines this spring. It was horrible, like the first floor of arcades where filled with stereotypical waifufags. Funnily enough there was IdolM@ster gacha events going on in the stores and their fan base did not seem nearly as cancerous as Love Live. Edward is a pretty good example, from what I remember his only special ability was gained at the cost of his arm and many people in universe have higher power levels than him that he has to outsmart.
Kenji in 20th Century Boys is powerless and wins with courage and the power of music.
