The worst part is that currently she is dead in the fucking water storywise. Japser's bubbled, she's fine with living on Earth, and she's on neutral terms with the CG's and it's only a matter of time until she joins them. I know it's all because of the Steven's viewpoint thing, Steven being a naive kid who doesn't see how things really are and who refuses to see what a monster Lapis really is, but it pisses me off so much. Especially because from the way she's been handled recently it really seems they'll just gloss over the whole "permaraped a teammate for months and destroyed their sanity for no reason, just felt angsty and needed to let out the rage" situation and focus on how widdle Lapis has been through so much, I mean they had to hold a captive down against their will in a fusion they didn't want to be in for months, it's taxing, we need to hold their hand while they recover and never apologise for anything.

It's pretty sad when you think of it, especially because the show clearly tries to tackle these big themes of grey morality and deal with them well.

Even though Lapis is pretty much PTSD:the character, I don't think I've ever felt the same sympathy with her as with other characters. I've teared up in this nuke alone with Mr.Greg, Centipeetle's breakdown, Bismuth's speech and Jasper's meltdown, but never felt anything with anything Lapis related. Screentime isn't the same thing. "Bismuth" was the same length as "Mirror Gem" and "Ocean Gem" and while I didn't agree with her, I thought Bismuth was an interesting character that was likeable and full of personality. Even Rose, with all of her mysteries, is more interesting and likeable than Lapis.

The show has failed to make me care about her character because it's constantly screaming to me that all she is is "a victim" whose dickish actions are inexplicably forgiven every time through some "she's a victim pls don't disagree with or challenge bc she's more important for some reason" card.

I went from indifference, to dislike, to hate. I honestly hate Lapis, and I hate that I hate her because it's not worth it, but I just do.

She interacted with her, just not one on one. She called pearl "lost and defective" and Pearl told her and Peridot to piss off, because the Earth wasn't a Gem controlled planet. Later, Alexandrite fought Malachite, so again, with others "around". In "Gem Hunt" she could have said something to Peal, but basically ignored her, and spoke directly to "Rose". Everything we've seen indicates that she views Pearl as beneath contempt or regard in any way, unlike Amethyst, who she views as being a failed attempt at being her, she probably sees no potential in Pearl at all, as she's been trained to see Pearls as household servants who do very little other than hold things and look pretty.

The show has made it clear that fusion is extremely intimate and should be a choice. There's also an effective way - poofing and bubbling - of detaining a gem. The Garnet and Pearl conflict made it clear that even tricking someone into fusing is morally wrong - forcing them into a fusion would be the equivalent of a rape dungeon or such.

Lapis had zero need to tie Jasper down in an abusive forced fusion that's essentially mindbreaking torture for months. Jasper was already weak, on her knees, beaten. The CG were all there, they'd have won. She's so weak she turns on her principles and begs Lapis to fuse in order to have a chance to win, which shocks Lapis. Lapis is right next to the ocean, which makes her OP as fuck, and she's also away from Jasper. She could say no, or pretend to say yes and get the fusion to the water, unfuse and hold J down while the CG poof her.

Instead, she chooses the rape-equivalent permafusion in the bottom of the sea, because she wants to hurt someone else, wants vengeance on the world, wants to take her bitterness out on someone. Jasper had nothing to do with her traumatic suffering in the mirror, but she takes it out on her anyway, because she wants to torture someone else through imprisoning them for a change. The canon book confirms this; "malachite is held together out of revenge". Lapis also herself says she enjoyed doing horrible things and taking everything out on Jasper. In Chille Tid and Alone at Sea you see that the forced fusion seriously fucked with Jasper's mind, Lapis essentially destroyed her mental health out of her own desire to harm someone else out of bitterness. And also possibly because she tried to escape her problems by becoming Malachite and hiding under the sea.

She's a sadistic abuser. The show makes that clear but also refuses to address it directly. If anything, the "I'm doing it to protect Steven" is a lie Lapis tells herself in order to justify her actions, but it's totally unnecessary cruelty.

With both fusing incidents i felt it only happened because they had someone who was stronger/higher up to them in every way possible and they wanted that power or love.
It feels like the leadership role kinda causes that shift between friend, and leader.

I actually like this, the team realizes they shouldn't push all the unnecessary problems they've been creating onto Garnet just because they believe she is the most responsible for it.
Because from what we've gather she doesn't really like or want the leadership all that badly.

If this is done in a certain way though i see this starting off a reason for Ruby and Sapphire to stay unfused but that's pointless for now.
