Yeah it's been pointed out in some tie ins and the main book that they are self fulfilling because they are being acted upon. But some like the Celestial and Thanos attacks were going to happen anyway. So there's that unsure nature of whether to intervene or not.

He admitted he was planning something like that.
He never would have talked to or resolved shit with his ex if they hadn't brought him in for questioning in the first place. Them bringing him in was what allowed them to prevent it. They never would have known something was potentially wrong with this kid to talk out. It's like if you find a kid with a hit list. Sure he hasn't shot those people yet, but the intent is there and you intervene before he kills people.

Bruno trying to free him was his own fault. If somebody I know gets arrested and held overnight, I'm sure has hell not risking my life to break them out. They didn't have the kid on death row, they weren't torturing him or beating him. He was just being held to divert him from doing something he'd regret. They were handling it pretty well, all things considered.

The Bruce Banner and Wolverine situation are questionable, I'm not arguing that. Preventing a kid from blowing up a school by holding him humanely is not. Either get held for a day or two and get talked down from committing a crime, or blow up the school and get shot by police or put prison for life and deal with the guilt of killing kids. Hmm I wonder which I'd prefer.

That' the thing. The blowing up part was a catastrophic failure that he had not planned.
He was planning on doing something majorly stupid, but the explosion that has been forseen was not his intantion.
Also nobody would bat an eye at him being prevented from blowing up the school. They objected to the completely retarded way in which they went about it. They broke into his house, kidnapped him and held him without any authority to do so.
And it's not like they asked him why he would do such a thing but just detained him with no legal basis.
They could have walked to his front door, given him the situation and asked why he would do such a thing. He would have said it was about Zoe, they would have called her and she would have given him her reasons, which would have solved the thing.
But they treated him as a dangerous criminal or a terrorist for basically no reason.

It wasn't handled in the best way, but how this was handled was not Carol's fault since she wasn't involved with this directly. Which I think was the original point, Kamala blaming Carol for everything that went down. Carol put Kamala in charge of this. Ulysses predicting this and giving them the tip off to stop the kid is NOT the problem here. Carol passing on that information to Kamala and co to handle it is NOT the problem. How it was handled has nothing to do with Carol or Ulysses. Which I get it, Kamala is young and more inexperienced, so maybe she's bitter at Carol for trusting her with the responsibility outside of her own abilities. But the fuckups in this situation were not Carol's doing.

And while it wasn't handled the best way possible, it still prevented a school explosion. The only death caused by this was a kid overreacting, choosing to take stupid actions, and getting himself killed. The kid being held really didn't go through anything that awful, and definitely not as awful as unintentionally killing a bunch of children. It's definitely the preferable of the two possible outcomes.
Before they took him and figured out the situation, they had no way of knowing whether his actions were intentional or accidental. It's easy to say oh they should have treated him like it was all an easy misunderstanding AFTER finding out, but that doesn't change the fact that his actions if left alone WOULD have blown up a school. At that point the priority is making sure the school doesn't get blown up.
